Summary: Plain and Old, just stinks bad!
Review: I think sierra (the makers of blue shift, along with Valve) have some nerve selling junk like this. This has to be the worst game I ever bought. The 3D engine is old and played out, the graphics stink and are old. NO NEW WEAPONS, nothing is new, its just plain and old. A waste of money and time. But Max Payne it might cost more, but more fun, 3d Realms never lets us down. As for Blue Shift, if you do buy it and have any problems runnig it, dont bother calling tech support, they will just be nasty to you, like they were to me. and if you are offered a rebate offer on the box, good luck trying to get it, they dont honor it.

Summary: BLUE SHIfT would have been more appropriate without the 'F"
Review: I bought this from (the internet), installed it on a new Dell Dimension 8200 running the latest version of Windows 2000. After installing it I tried to run it...Nothing apparent happened. I watched the processes in Task Manager and noticed that the BLUE SHIfT process activated then immediately terminated. I uninstalled then reinstalled and still had the same problem. I have all the other Half-Life products and they all run. I contacted Tech Support and they told me in be sure I had all the latest drivers. I checked and did have the latest patches for he video, audio and CD-ROM. I forwarded Sierra a copy of my system information file from Computer Management. Their reply to me was they could offer no more suggestions and to return the product. That really (ticked) me off. To me there reply was a cop-out. In addition, I now have to pay return shipping on a product that is a piece of ... From now on I am going to get the pirate versions of Sierra's products off the Internet and try them. If they can't support their products I refuse to pay for the, Time to fly the Jolly Rodgers..

Summary: Yawn! Played Out!
Review: although this game is being sold under Half- Life it is so boring, it took me 35 min. to complete it. Like the review above says the 3d engine is old and played out. Everyone else is releasing new 3d engines, and this company is still working off of this 4 year old engine. The game is short and boring. I think barney should have been put to bed before they thought this one up.

Summary: Shortest lastling game in history of all games ever played
Review: I got this game for Christmas, it took me 45 minutes to complete. It was like a shareware at retail full game prices. All I have to say is this one is real bad. Get Op-force instead.

Summary: Not Worth it!
Review: This game stinks so bad, it is nothing like the original Half Life, or even Opposing Force. You better off getting Max Payne it is more realistic and lasts longer. This game took me 1 hour to beat. Now that really was not worth the money I spent.

Summary: None-too-thrilled
Review: I was one of HalfLife's biggest fans when it first came out. It ran so poorly on my old P166 that I ran out and upgrade to an AMD K6-2 400 w/ a Voodoo 2 card just to play it. Half Life, I'm sorry to say, almost brought a relationship to ruin before I learned to temper my interest. The plot, the player's involvement in what's going on around you, the attention to detail and your immersion in a world that's just real enough that, when the everything starts hitting the fan, you begin to feel like it's actually happening in your own world.

To say nothing about the multiplayer capabilities. The previously mentioned relationship once again faced abandonment once I got DSL.

"Blue Shift" WANTS to be like Half Life was, and it wants to REALLY HARD. But it fails in so many ways. For one, it's too short. For two, it doesn't feel quite as connected to the first two games in this series (Half Life and the other expansion pack, Opposing Force, another fine example of immersion and plot). If you play Blue Shift to the bitter end, you'll understand what I mean.

There are plenty of scripted sequences, and more interaction with the scientists. Plus, there's the much-vaunted "HiDefinition Pack" with plenty of new textures and skins, so that not EVERY scientist or soldier looks like a clone of the last.

But it ain't enough. Your character just isn't quite as compelling as Adrian the solder from OpFor or Gordan Freeman from Half Life. You jump, you fight, you die, you replay.

Maybe I'm just getting tired of the same old Black Mesa or the world of Xan. Or maybe I was unhappy with the fact that Blue Shift didn't add much by way of multiplayer "stuff".

On the plus side, however, Blue Shift comes with OpFor. So if you've never played OpFor, and you have an old copy of Half Life lounging around, and you've got a hankering to jump around, flip some switches, and hammer on some scientists with a crowbar, buy this game.

Otherwise, go play some "Counterstrike", or purchase "Return to Castle Wolfenstein". You'll spend your money more wisely, then.

Summary: Fun, a bit too short, not quite worth the $$$
Review: Buying Blue Shift forces one to make a choice:
Do I care enough about the story line of Half-Life to shell out a few bucks for a continuation?

The game itself is good. It is not an improvement of the previous versions (Half-Life, Opposing Force, etc). HOWEVER, it IS a continuation of the story. There are some cute/cool tie-ins from the previous games (like when you see Gordon jumping through the portal to Xen).

There is also the High Definition pack which improves the graphics-look/feel of the weapons.

However, one note of warning: if you play Half-Life in DeathMatches, the HD pack makes it difficult to use the crosshairs... Why? Well, for instance, the tip of the M-16 covers up the crosshairs somewhat when it fires. In the game, this is not an issue, but in HL-DM it can be problemtatic. The solution to this is to change crosshairs to more visible ones...but I digress.

Basically, the game is nice from a story continuity standpoint, but if you don't care about the "Gordon" story, then it is probably not worth buying.

Summary: Great but short
Review: Another great entry for Half Life, as the security guard. But this game was short and I beat it in 2 days...I have NEVER beaten a game in 2 days. Still very good, just not very long.

Summary: Half-Life BlueShift, Is it worth the price?
Review: Half-Life BlueShift... Great game, but it is to short. I thought this game was suspensful, full of action, and it has this great weapons pack. The first day I got BlueShift, I got through about 3/4 of the game after about 3 hours of playing. I was thinking how great this expansion pack was when I then realized that I had only been playing for 3 hours and I was already in Xen?!?!?!
The original Half-Life took me more like 3 weeks to get to Xen!!!
I was already pretty good at Half-Life, but it still took 3 weeks!!! 3 weeks, 3 hours...theres something wrong with that. The ending is very good and is suprising what happens right before it's over, but I still wish they had one final boss like the other 2. I would give this game a 5, but because there is no final boss and it is EXTREMELY short(and I though Opposing Force was short), I have to give it a 3. I would still buy products from Sierra and Valve in the future, but I wish they make their games A LOT longer. I would only recommend buying BlueShift if you already don't have Opposing Force and you really want to know what happens. If you already have Opposing Force, I recommend you borrow BlueShift from a friend because it really ins't worth the money.

Summary: Blue Shift - not worth your money
Review: Half-Life: Blue Shift lets you play as the obese police officer Barney Calhoun.
The first thing that will strike experienced HL players is the fact that BS is extremely short. Having only 20-odd levels, anyone with even a passing interest for first-person shooters will finish it in 3-4 hours. ( I have done it in 2)
The game's brevity could be forgiven if it's content was of high quality, but once again, BS's levels and game content are nothing to rave about. Following the same principle that HL popularized of having small level clusters, BS's levels are not given a chance to show their full potential.
Most of the levels seemed like a work of amateur designers.

You are better off purchasing Counter-Strike and playing that instead of throwing your money away on Blue Shift.
