Summary: Security's Revenge
Review: Fist, I want to say I did not think Blue Shift too short. Very intense, yes. To those who said it is too short, I say, turn off the cheats and try it. Having once been cop and a security guard, the game had a special appeal for me. Enjoyed it much more than the other versions of Half Life. I liked putting the 357 into a grunts face and pulling the trigger. Nice graphics. Only wish they had a 44 magnum in the game. Was nice to 'turn the tables'. I liked being a 'hero' to the sceintists for a change. If you liked Half Life, this is a must have, for it is another point of view of the game.

Summary: Should have been a free download...
Review: I just played through Blue-Shift, and I think it is more excellent map making like Opposing Force was. I had many other problems with it though:

1) Why must I have my flashlight on ALL the time? Gearbox, do you realize that having to cycle the flashlight all the time gets quite annoying (or going off and doing something else waiting for it to recharge)?

2) No big end game. The thing closest to a sub-boss you'll see is a tank towards the end. Also it's about as short as Opposing Force. No new enemies or weapons. And not much of a challenge either (I beat it two hours after opening up the box it came in).

3) Why must everything be stand-alone all of a sudden? Why do I need three and 4 copies of everything? And does this mean that all the mod makers out there have the option of making their stuff stand-alone? Is that going to bloat up my drive even more (Gunman Chronicles is about 400MB on my drive (they compressed nothing), total size for everything I have even remotely half-life related is 1.5-2.0 gigs...and they said the M$ op sys was bloated!)?

And the worst part of this whole deal: The Hi-Def Pack. I'll talk about the Hi-Def pack since I ran it on all 3 of it's targets (Half-Life, Blue Shift, Opposing Force).

The new models look good and do add a level of detail to the atmosphere. Bad news coming and there's a lot of it:

1) The textures and models redone were the Half-Life ones only. I expected to load OpFor and see new textures for my squadmates and the DIs and came up with the old material. The OpFor weapons are the same too. Probably the biggest oversight is that Gearbox forgot to redo their own stuff.

2) The textures and models redone were only the weapons, the scientists, barneys, and some of the enemies (I couldn't tell on some of them that there was more detail.). As far as the rest of the game goes, it's the old material, looks the same as it always did (old). I understood from what I read that all the original material would be replaced with hi-def material. Guess I'll be looking at the grungy concrete (or what is that?) walls and the brown stuff that looks like wood, but you really can't tell. And then those signs throughout the complex (the rotating signs at the beginning of Half-Life as an example)you really couldn't read because there weren't enough sprites will have to stay unreadable...

The Hi-Def Pack is highly overrated and reveals sloppiness in my opinion, and I think this whole package should have been a download in it's current form. To make this material, which was originally filler to begin with for a game console port and obviously just slapped together, especially the Hi-Def pack and then charge for it shows a lot of cajones on Sierra's part. Gearbox should have done this right instead of doing a half-assed job, and Valve should have acted to protect the reputation that Half-Life has generated.

Summary: I was expecting more.
Review: Let me start by saying this game is a poor follow up to the Half life series. The first evening I played this game I thought it was great. The action starts right away with you shooting away at aliens, and I couldn't stop thinking about what kind of crazy twist in the plot or big boss I would face at the end. The next evening I beat the game after about 5 or 6 wimpy levels compared to the 14 or 15 levels in Half Life and 10 or 11 levels in Opposing Force. It only took me about 4 or 5 hours to beat the game. It took me 8 or 9 to beat HL and OF. I felt kind of ripped off. And even worse, there was no big boss and the end or any kind of twist in the plot, it hardly even had a plot. Which is mainly why the first two were so good. When I neared the end of the game, I figured I was about half way through the game, and it ended just like that. When I did beat it, I had seen the worst ending that has ever been put in a game. The rest of the game focused almost completly on the soldiers and almost zero aliens. I must admit I was left breathless on the biggest of the many firefights I had with the soldiers. The game has lots of action and good graphics thanks to the High Def Pack, but it was left empty were the other 2 games were full of plot and actual endings. There wern't even any secrets to be found in the game like the previous two. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the action and graphics, but those aren't enough on their own. I still suggest you buy this game, but only for fans of Half Life and when the price drops... If you haven't played the original game, buy that first.

Summary: Short and not too Sweet...
Review: I am a Half-Life addict. I will admit that I did support the game tooth and claw whenever I heard a dissaproving grunt from my friends.

So why did I rate this game a measly two?!

It was short. Everyone was complaining about Op. 4's unsatisfying length, well then, now you've got something to complain about even more. This is more like an overnight game than a month game like the first (and in my opinion, best) Half-Life.

Sierra and Valve have been relying on the popularity of Half-Life to get them more cash out of expansion packs. The companies don't put as much time in their HL games anymore. Bl-Shift is just a few small levels put together in hopes of a fatter wallet.

The graphics were not spectacular either. If Valve wants a better game they need to spend a little more time on it. I was downright dissapointed.

Summary: Blue Shift left me blue!
Review: Valve has ... to us! The advertisement miselads one to believe that this game possesses sharper graphics than the HL original and OpFor. But in actuality the reverse is the case. Unlike HL and OpFor, the graphic detail on all the characters in Blue Shift is abyssmal, much like the ... pixilated mess that is in Gunman, making me suspect that Sierra/Valve got stuck with hiring the mediocre minds that wrote up the Gunman codes.

The game is way too short, but in this case that was a relief being that I felt I was playing a bowdlerized versin of HL or OpFor. There were also no new alien weapons or aliens -- making me think the original HL programming team has already left Valve/Sierra long ago, most likely from some Sensitive Falling Out Phenomena amongst themselves. Couple this with the hokey weapon sounds and the lousy pixilated mess that comprised the characters I had to battle or interact with in BS, and I was feeling as if I was running through another lousy ... of a game like Gunman. Really ... programming here, guys! BS is a huge evolutionary leap backwards in computer graphics and animation, by at least sixteen years!

This is unacceptable!

But what is even more unacceptable are the BS "upgrades" to the original Hl and OpFor games have actually screwed up my original OpFor game! For instance, the autoseek capability that I used to have on my weapons in OpFor is completely dead.

Is there a way to get a complete refund, including my original OpFor game back?

Summary: Needed More Bang For The Bucks!
Review: This game needed to have more to it. A LOT more to it. The ending of Half-Life was spectacular, even though I HATED those Xen levels. The ending for this is weak, not terrible, but weak.

They needed to add some new monsters and I wish they had dumped things about Half-Life I didn't like. Like lose the headcrabs, the Xen level, and add some new monsters and a better ending. And hey, how about using some different actors for the scientists and other guards so they don't all sound the same?

All in all only a decent game at best. Sierra should just release the Maverick Developments Wanted! add on instead of this. Wanted! needed a better ending too though, just like Blue Shift. You can did that, can'tcha?

Summary: ZeRo HouR's Blue Shift Review
Review: I went to the store to buy the game Blue Shift. I found out it was around ... and i bought it. I took it home and installed it. I then noticed that it wasn't a mod, it was standalone like Counter-Strike and it included Opposing Force as well. I also installed the HD Pack, which upgrades the graphics for Blue Shift, Half-Life, and Opposing force. I started playing and i went to the main menu. I then noticed that there was no multiplayer for Blue Shift and there was no mod selection. I began playing the game. You are a security officer named Barney Calhoon. I played about half of the game that night and finished it the next morning. The game was about half as long as the original Half-Life game which was very discouraging. Also there is no boss at the end of the game like in the first two games. The game adds no new weapons or monsters. And you only see the great G-Man once. The sad thing is, its at the begining of the game. I'm not going to spoil the end of the game if you plan on buying it. So below is everything i have covered. Pros ----- -Blue Shift is standalone, which means you do not need the original Half-Life to play it. -Blue Shift also comes with Opposing Force, the expansion pack where you play as Adrian Shepard, a marine sent in to kill Gordan Freeman. -The HD pack is a great tool and it upgrades all the skins of the monsters and people and it also upgrades the weapons. -The AI is upgraded. Cons ----- -No multiplayer or Mod Selection -Dated Graphics, even with the High Definition (HD) Pack -Extreamly Short -No End Game Boss -No New Weapons or Monsters

I didn't enjoy this game as much as Opposing Force or the original but if you see it for around ... you should buy it cuz it is a pretty good game.

Overall i am going to give this game a 3½ out of 5. A message for Valve, next time you make an addon pack for Half-Life, put some more effort into it.

Summary: Over already?!?
Review: This game has the same feel as the first and OP but could they have made it any shorter. I finished the whole thing in less than 6 hours. I dont know about you but if I'm paying for a game I should get more use out of it that that!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Half-Life: Blue Shift
Review: This game is the best first person game since the original half-Life where you played the character 'Gordan Freeman'. In this game you play the character as a security officer and there are alot of malfuctions going on and u help out these officers by determining the problem. In this game Half-Life Blue Shift, i think that there is more interaction with other characters and objects within the game, you are able to interact with any security cameras. I have rated this game 5 stars because i think this is the best the best half-Life game made yet, since the original half-Life engine.
