Summary: This Game kicks *SS
Review: This is one of the most fun online games on the market. You can choose from different playing fields and types, and almost always can find a good match being played. New players are welcome, and the older players help them along. Have fun with this great game.

Summary: Get It!
Review: This game is awsome. But i only recommend getting it if you have at least 1.7 ghz. If youre confident you can run this i definatly would get it. It worth the money and the multiplayer kicks. Go buy it!

Summary: great game demands a great video card..
Review: Unreal Tournament 2003 is by far the most visually impressive game of the year. However to get those impressive graphics at a playable framrate you're going to need a fast graphics card. I've seen several reviews from people saying the game was slow even on their modern 1Ghz+ machine with a geforce 2/4 card.
UT2003 needs the best graphics card you can throw at it. Anything less than an ATI Radeon 7500 Pro (the one with DDR memory) or a GeForce4 MX440 (*not* the 420) just won't cut it. In fact you'd be better off with a Radeon in this game than anything else.
The CPU is much less important to this game. I've been able to run it at a very stable 30 Frames Per-Second on an Athlon 650Mhz with 192Mb RAM and an ATI 7500 Pro video card at 800x600x32. However, if you want to see the true beauty of this game engine shine through, you're going to need a much faster CPU and a better graphics card. (I'd reccomend an Athlon 2500+ and Radeon 7500 pro or better)

Summary: UT2K3 - trying to be objective
Review: First, my credentials: I'm a semi-professional Quake 3 player, and I've been playing shooters for the last 5 years. No, I'm not the catscratch from QW - I played Lith Q2 with SoH before moving on to OSP Q3.

Ok, let's get to the reviewing. When it comes to UT, there's little to no middle ground - people either love it or hate it, but only a few will be objective. I'll try to be one of those.

From a technical point of view, the game is superb. The graphix are phenomenal, and the performance is acceptable - the game runs on top systems about as well as Q3 did when it first came out. I expect that in another half a year performance will not be an issue for the average gamer.

The textures, effects, and animations are all very well done. The levels are rendered with a degree of style rarely found in other shooters - the environments are unique, imposing, and impressive. If you want to show off that l33t gaming rig, then this is definitely a good choice.

But, as they say, gameplay is king, especially in online first person shooters, and it is here that the game begins to fall flat.

First of all, the game just doesn't have enough depth. All the various movement options are very easy to do - without having played the original UT, I've picked up the basics of dodging in an hour, and was hopping happily along with the best of 'em in 2 days. Compare this to the 2-6 months that strafe-jumping normally takes to learn, and you beging to see the difference.

Secondly, most of the maps are designed poorly - not many maps are suited to 1 on 1 play, and are often too large to control. Spawn points are placed poorly and lead to too much spamming in a free-for-all. There are numerous choke points and camp spots that seriously detract from the flow of the game.

The game isn't very customizable. There is no way to handle mouse acceleraion from within the game, nor can you specify sensitivity individually for each mouse axis. You cannot force enemy models or disable many of the effects. The weapons are interesting, and compliment each other well, but they don't seem to pack the punch that other shooters have.

It's not surprising, then, that Fatal1ty was able to come in to the game with only a few weeks of practice and dominate the CPL. I'm pretty sure that most of the people from the old Quake crowd would have done the same, had they bothered to show up.

Still, ALL of these gripes apply only if you plan to play the game at a hardcore level. Admittedly, most of us will not, and for the casual gamer, UT2K3 should offer a lot of fun. It's fast paced, it's easy on the eyes, the weapons are original and interesting, and the learning curve isn't very steep.

I'd rate the game 5 stars for the casual gamer and 2 stars for the hardcore gamer. If you just want to have fun, then buy it by all means, but keep in mind that this is not the Next Big Thing.

Final rating: ***1/2.

Summary: Do Graphics Make A Game?
Review: Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to a fabulous game, Unreal Tournament. Unfortunately, Unreal Tournament isn't as ground-breaking and as great as its predecessor, but it is still a good game. Epic Games/Infoframes decided to take a sports approach to the revived version of Unreal Tournament which made me skeptical about the game initially. As I predicted, this new approach was its downfall.

First, let us discuss the graphics and physics. Quite frankly, they are stunning. The Unreal engine is most definitely the best graphics engine out there, and delivers the best graphics I've seen. The physics are also great. The damage modeling kits are almost perfected, as arms fly off when hit there. A blast from a flak cannon will leave just a torso, which is satisfying to blood-thirsty gamers like myself. Bodies will bounce on the ground when dead, which gives a realistic feel as opposed to the bodies being stiff as a board.

The sound is one of the worst aspects of the game. Since the game is taking a sports approach, there is an in-game announcer. After the first few battles, he annoyed me so much, I was forced to off the sound, and play some of my music. Also, when a teammate tries to send you a voice message, its hard to tell who it was from. This is because of the sloppy game interface (or HUD). Nothing is labeled, and it takes a while to get used to it.

The game is pretty much squad-based deathmatch, so you aren't expecting revolutionary gameplay, but after beating the single-player game in (and I'm not kidding) in just 3 hours, you are left with somewhat monotonous skirmishes/multiplayer modes. Despite its shallow gameplay and other problems, it (for some reason) is a good game, and satisfied me.

Summary: Really bad.
Review: I bought this wondering what the hype was all about. The weapons were all lame. This game is nothing compared to its similar games like Counter-Strike or Quake 2.

Cons:
1)Multiplayer offers tremendous lag even on a T3 line and DSL line. I have a Pentium 4 with geforce 2 and great connection and plenty of RAM to burn. This game was so lagged it was no fun to play. Just like Q3 it was unplayable because it lagged so much. It even lagged when I played single player against the computer.

2)The game has super lame weapons.

3)No thought or original game play.

Pros:

1)Great graphics
2)Beautiful maps

Summary: This game is unreal!
Review: They did it again with the newest iteration of UT - Graphics are outstanding, sounds are outstanding, and overall its just fun to play (THE only game to keep me up beyond 2am playing!)

Why is it so good? FPS DM/CtF type games are a proven winner, this one takes it to the next level. Speaking of levels, you'll find plenty in this one- enough to keep you busy for quite a while.

Something that made the first UT so good are the people out there who write mods for the game- you will find such people for UT2K3 as well, these provide you with some very interesting changes in the game; assuring that you will not get tired of Unreal Tournament 2003 for quite a few days (months? years? milleniums?)

Overall, this game was done *perfectly* in my sight- the ai and weaponrly seems balanced, there is just nothing i could think of that would make the game any better. If i could give it 6 stars I would. Enjoy Unreal Tournament 2003 - it's money you won't regret spending.

Summary: Four words: "Fun in a Gun"
Review: UT 2003 has got to be one of the most fun games I have ever played. The multiplayer is beyond anything ever seen. My suggestion for most would be to skip the single-player and head straight into the arena, where tons of different levels, modifiers, guns, and game-types colide. CApture the flag, bombing run (football with high explosives and other dangerous impliments of destruction) team deathmatch, and free-for-all are some of the game types playable. Modifiers like triple-jump, low gravity, and instant-kill make the game a lot more interesting. After playing instant kill with the shock rifle, you will beging to turn and "click" at someone walking around the corner. Anything and everything moving will die. THat's the greatest part of the game: the non-stop chaotic slaughter that goes on. You will never be able to hold still. Having shaky hands is almost an advantage, enabling you to aim a shoot at otherwise unherd of speeds. Rockets, the minigun (my favorite), adrenaline powers, the redeemer (heh heh heh) and masses of gore, the list of advantages goes on and on. Definatley worth your money and time.

Summary: Love the multiplayer.
Review: I like this game..I've noticed a lot of the reviewers here didn't like it but let me make a few things clear.

This game's strength lies in its multiplayer, the single player couldn't hold my interst, I had the most fun playing on servers with new and unusual maps and mutators.

Don't even bother with the campain unless your learning how to play, go for the instant action mode its much more fun without the pressure of having to win to advance. Even so the instant action is more practice than anything.

The graphics are amazing, if you have a relatively high end system you can run it with max everything with pretty much no slowdown. Also for the most fun you should have a broadband connection.

While this game probly isn't nearly as good a the orignal, open up a few new mods and you can have lots of fun.

have a slow comp and narrowband???
Don't bother.
