Rating: Summary: I recommend highly. Review: This game is really a great game. The graphics/gameplay are topnotch. If your looking for some strait up deathmatch or CTF, look no further, just pick up a copy of UT2003. I've been hooked since it arrived.
Rating: Summary: Somewhat of a disappointment after the original Review: I bought this title (hereafter UT2003) the week it was released, with great excitement. I loved the original Unreal Tournament (hereafter UT), and I eagerly looked forward to the new release, as surely it would be even better, right? Perhaps not, after all...Many will love this game, others will be disappointed. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter group. It's a good game, that much is undeniable, but I feel it's not up to the standard set by the original. UT2003 is very demanding on the hardware, expecting a 733+MHz CPU, lots of memory, lots of disk space, and a decent video card. Granted, most of us have it, so the majority of players will not have an issue with it. For those still running a 450MHz PC, time to upgrade if you want to run this one. The basic idea behind UT2003 is just like the original UT -- kill everything that moves and enjoy the splatter of blood and guts. The effects in this game are creative, well thought out, and well implemented. On a 1.8GHz PC, it's fairly smooth. That all said, the graphics are not quite as nice as that from the original UT -- and UT was less demanding on the hardware. The images and clarity of such were better in the old game than the new, and there was much less slowdown when the graphics and action got busy. As an experiment, I loaded 16 players in a single player UT game and 3 in the single player UT2003 game. Hardware was 1.8G CPU, 512 Meg RAM, and 32M video. The UT, with 16, ran noticeably smoother and the graphics were better. Another issue I encountered was in loading a profile. I made a mistake and tried to load a profile twice. UT2003 went into a loop that would not let me get to the task switcher or do anything that would allow me to break the loop. As a result, I had to hit the reset switch. *sigh* Sound, specifically voices, are noticeably worse in UT2003. The voices are a little muffled and hard to understand (they are supposed to sound like intercom transmissions, but even so they are poor). The effects of explosions and gunfire are all right, but still not up to the original standard. Yes, I prefer UT over UT2003, and I will probably just continue to play it instead. In my opinion, it is a better game when it comes to graphics and game speed. The creators of UT2003 made a nice game -- it is unfortunate that it could have been MUCH better.
Rating: Summary: NOT GAME OF THE YEAR MATERIAL HERE Review: I downloaded the demo and it's fun but it's nothing shockingly new. UT2003 is an average FPS as I see it. I applaud the graphics but that alone will not earn it GOTY. There is hardly anthing new that makes it unique from previous FPS. Halo and Battlefield 1942 was revolutionary. The bar has been raised. Vehicles and planes should come standard in all FPS now. This was basically a major enhancement of the original UT, a mindless search and destroy game. If you actually want to use your neurons and you have the computer to handle it, get Battlefield 1942. BF1942 has many bugs but the fact that it's an original WW2 game with ships, planes, tanks, and vehicles has a better chance at GOTY.
Rating: Summary: this game ownz!!! Review: I don't know what radion is on, but UT2K3 is TWICE as fast paced as UT ever was, and thats on normal speed! This game is a great overall improvement on the first. While I do admit it isn't perfect, it's still fun, and thats all that matters. To many people who say it was stupid to take out the sniper rifle, hear this... IT WAS TOO GOOD!!! You could get headshot after headshot with barely any aim. Now, atleast, you need some skill to get one. Overall, this is a great game. Go get it. NOW!
Rating: Summary: Unreal Tournament 2003 Review: I've played UT for quite a while and it's still a thriller for me. When my friend told me to download UT 2003, I was ready and waiting to begin the slaughter. With the opening Nvidia logo being kicked out and seeing that guy with the rocket launcher, I knew I was in for a treat. When the menu came up and the music played, I was instantly hooked. The music alone had me wanting to play the game. I would take about fifteen minutes to listen to the menu music at full blast before I was ready to blow my enemies to a smoking mass of flesh. Thankfully, I had bought my Geforce 4 TI 4200 about a month before and my DSL was up and running, so I could enjoy everything the game developers had to offer to my eye's pallet. In just a few days of playing, I can never play it just once. The weapons are just sick, yet original. I couldn't wait to use the mini-nuke. Nothin like watchin your enemy run from the remote-controlled missile. This game is definitely worth your money. I recommend this game to all who enjoy UT. The music keeps my heart racing and CTF definitely gives me a heart attack, or almost. The gameplay is fast-paced, so be prepared. Some may say the announcer voice is lame, but I find it a must for the game to maintain its feel of an arena deathmatch. Just think of watching a pro sport without the announcer(s). It's be pretty lame without them. Nothing like knowing your team scored!!
Rating: Summary: UT Rocks. UT 2003 Rocks a little less Review: With Linux support right out of the box, UT 2003 really rocks. Now, if it only were as fast and as fun to use (violent?) as UT was/is... I guess that I will use my copy of UT 2003 to play when I'm so tired of playing UT... To play it resonably fast, one has to turn off a lot of dynamic settings and lower bit-depth and resolution. With UT I could play at full 32bit mode and 1280x1024 with my system; with UT 2003 if I do that the games becomes so [bad] that it's not even fun to see it. And after turning off most of the dynamic lighting/decals, etc... then it goes a little faster, but then what's the point? I have a pretty fast system and a lot of memory, so that's not the issue... In any case, I do like the game, just not as much as UT...
Rating: Summary: best UT EVER Review: Hey, if you loved the last UT u will have no life after this one is relesed, it will be your life! Old mut's such as instagib and low grav are back. Awsome net code so it lags less. Dont question if to buy it or not, DO!
Rating: Summary: just a quake knock-off Review: I loved UT, and will continue to play it. The people are larger and more realistic in UT, and I am disappointed with UT2003. Something is missing and the announcer is annoying. UT was classy, and this is just (while the details are great) in a word, lame. I'll play it, cuz I sunk some hard earned cash into it, but i'm disappointed nontheless.
Rating: Summary: UT2K3 Review: Not recommended for children under 13...my 2 cents Infogrames has out did themselve on this new release. Not only is it a new game but a whole new game engine to. You know what that means many more new games to come. UT2K3 game play is much different than the original UT. So it will take sometime to get use to, exspecially if your a dedicated UT player. The graphics are by far the best that I have ever seen. So if your lookin for some fast action and a lot of gore this is for you...
Rating: Summary: Virtual Gotcha and some more Review: I'm an old-fashioned casual gamer since the 80's. I've always preferred passive, strategic games and simulators over the newest multiplayer shootemups. But... I got irresistibly curious after all the hype and publicity surrounding this game. So I downloaded the 97+MB free demo and I tell you right now, this game has made me radically change my mind about online gaming. "It's so kool!" The first thing that got me hooked to this game was the simplicity in getting started right away. I loaded it and immediately was surrounded (and humiliated) by online assassins. It wasn't exactly the graphics that surprised me, but the playability. The movements are smooth, easy to control, the environment is crisp and clear. Be careful though, performance depends on factors such as system specs and connection speeds. The current MINIMUM requirements are Pentium III 500mhz. I assume that you need to have a faster system a good video accelerator and probably (read again, probably) a high-speed Internet connection (cable, DSL) to take full advantage of this game. That's the good thing about the demo. Although it's a huge download, it's free and you can determine how it works on your system. Initially the interface was a little complicated for me since I'm not used to the newest 1st person games, but the designers really made a good effort to make the interface intuitive enough to make it simple and avoid frustrations. You can play deathmatches, team play, flag capture and other variations. I prefer death matches, it makes a very entertaining and quick virtual gotcha; you actually feel the adrenaline rush as you crouch, strafe, jump and shoot for your "life". The program has a customizable weapon priority feature where you can determine wether to arm any weapon you pick up during the game based on its priority. If you are carrying a high-priority weapon, you will keep it armed if you pick a low priority one. This is a nice strategic option that everyone should take a look to improve their survival rate. You can also manually select your weapon, of course. What can I tell you about playing online, there are thousands of people playing around the clock, so it doesn't matter if you want to play at 12pm or 3am, there's always someone available to be challenged. Or you can setup your own LAN at home and have a blast. I think my review hasn't even covered 10% of the game (I'm playing a demo) but if this just 10% or even 50%, it is definitely worth a future purchase. A definite winner.
