Summary: Hmmm..
Review: I've only played the demo, but just from that, I'm certain the full game is unbelievable: beautiful graphics (though awkward at first if you're used to the other Unreals), well balanced weaponry/gameplay, and extremely interesting and bizzare levels (in the demo, check out the CTF map. A deathmatcher's delight.

Summary: UT + Q3 = UT2K3
Review: What to say? They took a game I loved, and still do, and took away all the things I loved about it, then added nicer graphics.

UT2K3 is SLOW. It's Quake3 slow. Player movement is slow. Rate of fire is ridiculously slow. Even the speed the projectiles travel is slow.

UT2K3 is imbalanced. After all the touting of the weapon tweaks they made, the only weapon that gets regular use is the sniper (lightning) gun. Why? Because with how outrageously slow the rate of fire is on every weapon, there's plenty of time to pop your enemy's head clean off before he can deal enough damage to finish you off.

The player models are almost direct copies of the Quake3 player models. I far preferred the originals.

Finally, no Assault mode. Assault is the only mode I play in UT, so it is sorely missed. Bombing Run is decent fun in UT2K3, but not a worthy replacement.

If you are a Quake lover or a sniping freak you may enjoy this game. More defensive players or those looking for fast action should look elsewhere.

Summary: Good, but not Great
Review: One of the other reviewers nailed it: this game is a lot less "hardcore" and more "console-y" than the original Unreal Tournament. You feel like Mario hopping around after magic mushrooms instead of an adrenaline-crazed bezerker screaming "Let's Rooooock!!!!" I've played a few sessions, and will keep trying to like it, but its just a different brand of game. Too-fast game speed, more cartoonish characters; less gritty. After each session I go back to playing the Infiltration 2.86 mod of UT just to get some satisfaction.

Summary: AWFUL
Review: The Demo played smoothly, but I purchsed the full version today and so far its been awful. ... System freezes, texture problems, sound problems are just a few of the things plagueing this game.

I have several games that are more more system intensive, and play great. This game is just terribly engineered. 4 year wait...

I would wait a few months for the dust to clear. Or shelve this. It's useless until they patch it over the next several months, if it ever really works at all.

Summary: scrumptiously tempting!!
Review: This game is so sweet! I played it at my friend's house on his machine (pentium3 866mhz, 512 ram, geforce 2 GTS 64mb). If there was only one thing i could talk about it, it would be the physics. THEY ARE EXTREMELY TASTY! I love watching myself die, just to see the game engine work on my limp corpse. I position myself near railings or cliffs, and watch as I die and do a sommersault and my arms flail. And this is all dynamic! The character movements have no defined death animations, so your corpse will crumple or flip backward in a different way every time. It's more impressive than meatloaf and more erotic than curd.

And the sound, the sound--oh, the wonderful sound! If you have some sweet speakers, you will cringe when you hear the breaking bones and snapping cartilage sound effects. Even if your speakers fall short of 'sweet', you will still love the sound. And the announcer's voice is great--he seems very enthusiastic. The weapon sound effects are tempting as well. (btw, sorry for my disturbing adjectives i use...it's somewhat of a habit of mine)

On my friend's machine, the game ran without a hitch on the default graphic settings (800x600, 32-bit, most effects turned on). Yes, 800x600 seems low for today's standards but UT2003 makes the graphics look delicious. And of course you can go way higher if you have better system specs... I installed the demo on my machine (P2 400mhz, 192mb sdram, geforce4 mx 440 64mb) and it was slower than school. That's right, it was extremely slow...the PEAK frame rate was literally around 5fps :(

As for the gameplay, it was wicked sweet. The AI was great, and the levels r0x0rz (or is it 'r0ck0Rz' LOL) My only "complaint" is the hilarious choice of words the announcer uses to tell the audience a team got another point in CTF: "Red increases their lead!" It just sounds sooo funny...almost like it's been translated. Or maybe it's just the announcer's voice, the way he says it. Buy this game.

and with that, he turned around, facing the thick darkness... and vanished. POOF!

Summary: Sounds Effects Not Nearly As Good As Unreal Tournament
Review: When Unreal Tournament came out a few years ago, I was amazed not only by the graphics and smooth gameplay, but also by the sounds effects. The sounds were so good, they made your spine tingle. So clear, so loud, and so well defined. When you fired a weapon, you knew it was going to sound good and rock the walls of your room.

The same cannot be said for Unreal Tournament 3. The weapons sound downright bland and boring. It is amazing that the game's developers would allow such a game to be released knowing that it's sounds are not nearly as good as its previous release.

The only hope for UT3 in terms of sound quality is if a sound upgrade patch is offered for it.

Summary: Wow - Amazing Game
Review: Wazs Up?

Don't believe the negative people out there. If you liked Unreal Tournament...You'll be blown away by Unreal Tournament 2003! Yes it's different but WAY COOLER! Sure where there is change people are always in denial...but give it a few months and even those who say the old is better than the new will change there tone!

Anyways I can't believe the graphics! I have a Radeon 8500LE video card and have all the graphic options turn on and my resolution set to 1024X768 85Hz and let me tell you this sucker flies! And wow the eye candy is out of the world. You will want to get this game for the graphics alone.

The sounds...AMAZING.... Great tunes and awesome effects. What more could you want!

Hell my 4 year old son never liked first person games but ever since I let him play this game using Team DeathMatch he can't stop playing it. He likes it because he has "buddies" helping him out. And GORE?? Yeah buts its a video game. He understands that and I have everything crankin. You know what he is still the most normal polite boy you will ever meet. I think he's gaining more confidence and eye/hand cordination every day. So I let him play it as much as he wants.

Anyways you got to get this GAME.. Its FREAKIN AWESOME DUDE!

Summary: Fun, but limited single player game.
Review: Unreal Tournament 2003 is entering a marketplace relatively crowded with FPS games. What does it give the game player that they don't already have?

First off, there are the amazing graphics. I recommend a Radeon 7900 Pro (the first of the "new" generation of 3D cards) to get the best out of the game. As I write this review it is the fastest card on the market and gives magnificent colour saturation and anti-aliasing.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the best looking game on the market at the moment, period. You can even see individual stalks of grass, my goodness! There are no day/night or weather transitions however as was rumored. But really everything looks top rate, particularly some of the out door scenes.

Of course, looks aren't everything. How is the game play? Unfortunately here the game recieves less that a perfect score from me. The character models, particularly the bulky ones with the sunken heads (yet you can still get a head shot, why is that?) are poorly designed. When playing, you will feel tiny in respect to your outside envirment. This fault needs to be fixed. Some things, such as the bonus pills, are drawn in such a way they give the game a cartoonish feel. I wish they could have included more weapons, there isn't much variety, particularly as the ripper and sniper rifle have been deleted (the latter in favor of the lightening gun) Epic have taken away the assault form of game, which I miss, because they say single player gamers will be served by Unreal 2. But what do I do if I don't want to buy Unreal 2? As it happens I do, but still...

If you can't get online to play multiplayer you may want to reconsider if this game will be worth buying, as it has a fairly small single player experience. Not as good as Unreal Tourament in that respect.

If you are buying this game because you want to try making maps and mods on your own, which is a lot of fun, you should know that as is, the in built editor won't let you do that. You need another program like Maya or Max 3D. Luckily, UT3 ships with a trial, or "light" version of Maya. Unforunately it uses very intrusive watermarks which are both difficult to work with and ugly. So while you might use it to learn how to use a 3D program, you are unlikely to find it much use to creating meshes for your map.

Learning how to create maps has become quite a bit harder because of the need to use third party programs and I'm not sure how this is going to effect the UT map and mod making community yet. Perhaps people will team up to make maps, for example a really good texture maker might team up with the map designer who will work with the editor and somebody who has learnt Maya might create the meshes.

You need a really good computer to run this game. If in doubt do your research. Check out what other people are saying in community forums, as they are sometimes more reliable than the specs you will read on the side of the box.

My review has been a bit cautious but really UT3 is a buzz. Don't expect it to be something quite revolutionary as were Unreal and Unreal Tournament however.

Summary: Not bad
Review: Good: A lot of technical advancement in the game graphics and general play over the first version of Unreal Tournament.

Bad: The graphic art, sound and music that define the look and sound of the game has definitely not been improved upon. This is of course a pretty subjective judgement. I'm sure a lot of people will like it just fine. And it's a blast to play of course. But this game won't totally replace the first version for me anyway.

Summary: Addictive like mountain dew
Review: I had the original UT and loved it. This second installment is just as good. Some people have said that it is too much like Quake 3, and while I do agree that the pacing is a lot faster, I think the game is just the better for it. The graphics are incredible on my behemoth system(p4 2.2 ghz, gforce4 ti 4600). It feels like the level of detail has been increased 2x or 3x. Now, everytime I play my old UT, it feels like I'm dealing with an old game like Doom I or II. It is a tad violent, much like the first game, however because of the improved graphics and physics, it seems to be a little more explicit. New, out-of-box features in this version are the inclusion of the bombrun game type, the adrenaline and the combo system. I feel all of these are quite the necesarry bonus that give the extra depth that the game needed to expand on the first game. My only complaint lies with the number of maps: I wished they had included a couple more. However, in time, this will be partially resolved with people creating and posting their maps on the net. All in all, an excellent game has been delivered. Yes, it is merely revisionary, however the new elements and the modified feel will revitalize your thirst for fragging.
