Summary: HISTORY IN YOUR HANDS
Review: I PLAYED THE DEMO, AN IT IS GREAT. I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THE FULL VERSION. I'M A WAR-HISTORY NUT. TO BE ABLE TO RECREAT, OR, OF, ALL THE WHAT-IF's? THIS IS ONE OF THE BETTER WAR-GAMES OUT THERE, IF YOU LOVE HISTORY, AND THE MIDDLE-AGE'S TIME PERIOD. YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE. THANK YOU. RON.

Summary: Could be better!
Review: I bought this game as soon as it was released. First, I couldn't know how to start an interesting compaign. Scenarios are really boring. On the otherhand, there are lots of units and different countries with cool graphics.

Summary: So much work equals so much defeat
Review: When I first got this game I thought it would be just like a pre-colonial version of Age of Empires 2. One brutal defeat after another told me one thing: that this game was not nearly as good as AOE2. I consider myself a very good AOE player, (I can beat 4 hard enemys in less than 2 hours) but this is simply an hard. The main reason is that it's simply unrealistic. I build a whole army of soldiers and they get gunned down before they get half way to the enemy town. At the beginning this game can be fun building and gathering. Some of the missions are good also (including combat ones.) But like another reviewer said, "This isn't strategy it's a race." And I couldn't agree more.

Summary: Age of Empires warmed over
Review: I had high hopes for Cossacks, given the claims the manufacturers made, but found it to be basically the Age of Empires engine with updated graphics and a different period in time. It has been entertaining to watch how the updated weapons are handled, but the AI is a bit [poor] at times. If you haven't gotten tired of the Age of Empires games then you'll probably like Cossacks. On the other hand, Cossacks does not represent any significant new challenge. You might enjoy the new graphics, the new units, and the new time period, for a while.

Summary: Could be perfect
Review: This game deals exactly with what I love: History. I like strategy games very much and I like those that take place on ancient ages rather than futuristic ones. Due to fact that I love history and strategy games, this game had everything make me an addict. It didn't.
There are several things that are missing. OK, there are a lot of different types of units and several nations, each of with very particular caractheristic. But I miss some stuff that are well done by other strategy games, like beeing able to give and queue up orders when the game is paused (I couldn't do this in Cossacks).
I haven't played the game with the new addon (Art of War), but I don't expect changes on such things like the ones mentioned. There's one thing I've learned about the new addon that might help begginers, that is, starting the game in peace time. That would avoid your building to be destroyed in the first 5
minutes of the game.
I imagine that putting together the great story behind Cossacks with the capabilities of other strategy games like Outlive or Starcraft would make the perfect one.

Summary: Well done, but anxiously await American release of expansion
Review: Graphics are very nice. Looks like the software itself was put together with great care. Manual less so. Covers a very wide variety of European and near-European groups and their forces. No map editor and the emphasis on "resource management" is really irritating (not much strategy involved with telling peasants to work the mines). Art of War expansion set due out "1st Quarter 2002" should fix this with a fully functional map editor and better resource management AI. Even without the coming expansion, though, this title is highly entertaining for strategy game players and smokes the Age of... series.

Summary: The Best Stargegy game Ever
Review: Cossacks is the best RPG/Startegy ever! Empire Earth was big let down it had the worst graphics ever and it was too easy to progress through levels (nano, prehistoric etc.)

Back to the point. This game lets you control 8000 units AOE 1 and 2 are total dog poop compared to this masterpiece. The only trouble is no American army! But still it is the best strategy game ever. It has the best graphics possible for a computer exept FIFA and Max Payne. It is crystal clear and the grass waves and the miners mine. It is just so.... The best feature has to be the attacks with the cannons and howitzers. The balls explode and kill everone in the small blast radius. The only problem is left alone they are easily captured and turned against you. France and Netheralands are the best countries with France being good at horses and Netherlands having good all round and nice architecture. England is great at ships. Th best units are Battleships which are 1st class cannon-ball throwing machines, the graphics on these are awesome.

Summary: BEST GAME EVER !!!!!!!!!
Review: This game is one of the best stratedy games i have ever seen and i highly recomend buying it! first of all the game has a huge selection of countries to choose from. Then each county is totaly unigue in its own way. Then what makes this game the best is how much you can differn from your oppent because of how many upgrades you can get. Although haveing a lot of men is good if they aren't upgarded they are useless. The graphics i find to be quiet good. The game is a long term game though which is some times frustrating but its hours of long fun! There is quick single missions and also missions. I like single missions cause theres only one thing to do and that is kill your apponent. Then then best part of the game is how much startedy is invovled. Actully there is a points system that the computer keeps track of and when you do a awsome attack you rack up the points. But if you just charge at your enime like an idiot you dont get to many points. But for me i really dont play the game to much anymore because i have played it for at least 100 hours. I play the multiplayer!! this is the coolest most exciting thing ever. Playing a human is so much diffent than playing the computer. Playing the computer is practice playing a human is real war. The multiplayer is great but.. i very often have a hard time using it because it is and internet connection not modem connection. In an internet connection you need to get into a server which is no problem then tell your friend or friends what he name of the game you are creating is and the password then they need to find the game {which is the worst thing} i can never find it or the games dont load properly. But dont get discouraged the multiplayer is still great. The last con is that almost immdeditly when i get into the game i lose sounds wi\hich takes away action and fun. This has not always happened to me but just recently and it does not happen to any of my friends who have the game so i think it is my problem but it could be a bug i dont know. Also as soon as you get the game go to www.strategyfirst.com and get the patch for this game. It only takes 5 min and will lets you enjoy you game more. TRust me buy this game!! i played the demo of this game like it was the really game thats how good it is. And since it is not tottaly brand new the price has dropped about half. i know you can get it at best buy for 20.00 which it used to be 45.00 so buy it now and start playin it!! have fun!

Summary: Waiting for the add-on
Review: This game is pretty good, but it lacks the polish of AOK. I agree with the criticisms of the campaigns that other reviwers have noted below: there's too many missions where you have no village and command a small number of soldiers to wander the board aimlessly until you figure out what you're supposed to do. The AOK folks just made a better mix of missions: some where you start with an army, others where you have to build up an economy ...more like a mix between a random map and a single mission. For a game that supposedly emphasizes the economy more than other games of this genre do, I found this surprising.

Ships are too powerful, towers too weak. There are other more minor balancing issues. The random map feature (which in my mind is 90% of the playing fun of these games) is good enough to make it worth buying. Like AOK, you can choose maps that force land or sea conflict. The demo of the add on already shows significant, needed improvements in the random map.

I really like AOK and continue to play it and the expansion. Cossacks is enough like the AOK-style that you can easily pick it up, but different enough that's it's not really a knock-off. I think it's worth the money, and the add-on looks like it fixes at least the some of the problems noted in these reviews.
