Summary: Getting fed up.
Review: I think all senior game developers have been tranferred to the Xbox department and left the PC games to interns.

Three of my favorite series came out from Microsoft this year CFS3, Mechwarrior Mercs and now this - AOM. I am disappointed with ALL of them.

AOM is not a bad game, it's just that this is the third time for me this year that Microsoft made a few minor changes in a series, and has sold it to me as a "new" game. There's not a single MAJOR improvement or change in AOM.

Myth units? So what? They don't do anything special and you get used to them very fast.

God Powers? They are not significant enough to matter and can only be used once. How can one lightning bolt (kills one unit) affect the game at all, even on the tactical level? Snakes produced by the "Serpent power" can be easily killed off by a couple of melee units.

Variety of regular units is also very poor, although it's good to see that different civ's have all different units, that are not just the same hoplite in different color mantle. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, the civ's are NOT evenly matched. Egyptians are VERY weak. And why are there no priests? At least like the ones we knew in AOE and AOK? Conversion and healing were major parts of this game.

Dear Microsoft,

Please start doing things right, because if you don't someone else will (just as it happened with IL-2 Sturmovik game, vs CFS3). It's a lot easier to lose leadership then to build up a following.

Summary: if playable...
Review: the game was great, if it would play for more than five minutes without freezing. i even downloaded the patch from microsoft to deal with the constant freezing and nothing. the few minutes i had were great but if its unplayable what's the point.

Summary: Great game, highly recommended!
Review: If you really liked AOE and AOK and you like Mythology than you will like this game. It is cool how you advance to each age by worshipping a minor god. The story is well done for the single player campaign. Some minor gods that you worship have more than one mythological unit even as much as three. If you do not like Mythology than stay away from this game because it would not interest you at all. There is only minor problems with the game but nothing serious. My favorite group to play with is the Greeks. I gave it five stars and wait for an expansion to come out for it. People who thinks this game is not good should re-check their thinking because it is a really great game and because others did not like it does not mean that others will not. Not everyone shares the same opinion but at least stop whining about how bad the game was because it makes it look bad for others that may think it is a great game.

Summary: Don't Bother !
Review: AOM is one of the worse games Ensemble Studios has put out to date. The game is nothing but a poor remake of the AOE series.
If you like the RUSHING in the Age series then you'll feel right at home with this game for sure.

The 3 civs you have a choice from are the "Egyptian" which are very weak, the "Greeks" which are the easiest to learn and play but still stink compared to the "Norse" civ which are to overpowering.

The single game has 3 lvls of difficulty, Easy, Moderate and Hard. You will have very little trouble winning on the Easy lvl, but beware on the Moderate lvl. The difficulty makes a big jump from easy to moderate. And thats not even counting the AI cheating, just like it did in the Age series. ( Remember the double Resources the computer player got but U didn't on the Hardest lvl ) Record a game and check it out for yourself..

The Peons ( Laborers ) in AOM are really stupid. You have to take them by the hand and show & tell them what to do. At least in the AOE series the Peons seemed to get a little bit smarter with each expansion. Your melee army are also stupid. And forget about having control over them, cuz you don't. Even if you have them *stand ground* they don't listen well. I have to put my army on *stand ground* most of the time because as soon as their out of view they do as they please. And SLOW, slow isn't the word for it. They walk slow, build slow, work slow, and fight slow. Even the horses don't run fast enought to catch a Peon, unless its your Peon being chased by the enemy.

And theres NO game speed control except for one which is called *Lightning Speed*, and that speed stinks...

I gave this a 1 star rating because I feel the reviews were not telling the whole truth about the game. :( And I read just about all of the reviews I could find before the game went on the shelves.

Save your money and spend it on Christmas gifts for your family.

Disappointed ~*Marie~*

Summary: Great Game! Good Special Features! Dumb Minotaur
Review: First of all I simply must start by saying that this game is the best RTS i've ever played. To sum up this review i'll put it into sections:

- The first thing I always do when i first buy a game is play the sngle player missions. From these I go on to figure out if the game is good enough for online play. I played the first mission and was amazed at the detaild put into the cinematics and game. Even the story was impressive. The second mission only provided me with more excitement. The fact that the "Myth Units" are not only extremely mythologicly acurate is good enough. But the special attacks for each one is the coolest thing I've seen in a RTS game since Star Craft. An example of this is the cyclops picks up an enemy soldier and throws him. If you love a good storyline in single player missions (or just like killing Trojans) this is the game to get.

- The next great thing about this game is the multiplayer. ESO has done a great job of providing gamers with an easy yet effective console. The only problem that I can see with it is that the ladder games take too long to search for a non 1 vs. 1 game. But I am sure that will be fixed in time.

- The last thing is perhaps the best. The contents of the special edition box! One item is the DVD. The DVD contains making of features on Age of Myth. The 2nd item is the poster, signed by everyone at Ensamble Studios (the problem with this is that it's massive.) The 3rd item is a nice picture of the "non- evil gods" they're cool but they should have packed all the gods since the evil ones look the coolest. Another item is the Collectors book. This is very useful since it gives you more information than the normal book. The 2nd to last item is the Bulfinch's Mythology Book. I find it exteremely interesting. And finnaly, the worst item, a dumb plastic Minotaur figure. It's made of cheap plastic and is put in a plastic bag. So, basicly, if you want the Minotaur only don't buy the game. Otherwise it's well worth the money to buy the Special Edition.

Summary: I wrote a review, but it wasn;t shown.
Review: As you can see from my star rating I didn't like it.

I will not write another review..

Save your money, its AOE all over but worse.

Summary: The Best!
Review: Its the king of all strategy games. Add superb graphics, great gameplay, awesome attacks, cool characters, and a whole bunch of fun together, and what do you get? Age of Mythology. Microsoft has made some great games in the past, but this by far is best. There are practically no errors in gameplay. The price is a little high, but its definitly worth it. It takes some space though as it uses 1.5 gigs on your hard drive. Besides that I see it as the perfect strategy game ever. Bottom line: If you want a superior strategy game, buy Age of Mythology.

Summary: Not Worth the Hype - At All!
Review: This game, although somewhat more 3 dimensionally detailed, is highly disappointing. Beware you MUST meet the minimum system requirements and have a video card supported on their "list". Several people with that are even still suffering from numerous bugs and crashes. If you buy it wait until at least Christmas or later, maybe there will be patches out by then.

The "mythology" is an interesting addition, but there is ultimately very limited variety.

If more options, and beta testing had been put into this game it would be considerably better. However, the stringent hardware "requirements" make this game one of Microsoft's most blatant attempts to bolster a lagging technology sector with software that needlessly creates a planned obsolescence.

Summary: a disapointment
Review: After waiting anxiously for a year for AOM, all I can say is that it doesn't come close to AOE. Most of the graphics aren't as good, the game doesn't have as many options and it's not very good all around. It's still an okay game, but nothing at all like I expected.
