Summary: Fantastic games, works on Windows 2000
Review: This the best adventure/action game on the market right now. The game is set in the 30s in a fictitious city. The realism of the graphics and the accuracy of the driving are amazing. Being a mafia guy, you go on missions for your boss. There are 20 missions total, each of them include sub quests. You go from having to a kill a politician, robbing a bank, blowing up a hotel, to racing in a professional tournament. The environment is extremely varied: you drive by day and night and get to see all the parts of the city (the airport, the museum, the country side, mansions, cruise ship...). The music changes depending on what section of the city you are in. It really puts you in the mood of what's going on.

The level of difficulty is high, but not too hight that you can't finish the game. The hardest subquests in missions would take me sometimes 8 to 10 tries, but on average i would say 4 or 3 would be enough.

Then only downside of the game is that there is a lot of driving involved, even if the setting is amazing and really enjoyable to drive around, there are a couple missions that take too long because of 20+ minutes of driving required. I would say the total number of hours to play the game is around 100 hours.

You do need the most advance graphic card to play the game and at least a 800 mhz chip to enjoy the game fully.

Get it, you will have the thrill of your life. The end will give you chills. If GTA6 gets close to being as close as this, let me know and i'll consider maybe getting it.

Can't wait for Mafia 2 to come out in 2005.

Review: I have played the demo of this game and I was PLEASENTLY surprised!!! I bought it off Amazon immediately. Graphics are amazing and the storyline is SOO ... much fun. It is GTA 3 with a mafia twist. I happen to love that era so it works very well for me. This game is worth it!!!
Have fun!!!!

Summary: GREEEAT
Review: Ive become addicted ever since I got this game. Whoever says this game is awful is full of B.S. It is a bigger world (and) better than GTAIII, better graphics (anyone who says the game is choppy has a computer from the 70's). I got my comp. 3 years ago, I run the game from an external drive on highest settings and it is smooth. The driving is also a bonus. Hey, you dont have to drive even, the subway and trolly are always an option, and you can actually see through the windows while riding (unlike GTA III). Yes, it is a mix between max payne and gta III, but is better than each. GET THIS GAME!!! It is well worth the money!!! also check out partysnaps.8k.com !

Summary: Cool game..download demoe first...
Review: I downloaded the demo and bought the game. I am impressed with the great graphics and textures this game has. Simply AMAZING. The game is set in the 1930's chicago italian mafia. You start up as a rookie and your mission is to go up the mafia laddre until you are a "good fella", you know "one of ours". You can drive vehicles and use several weapons. Now, you need a powerful computer to run this game. As a reference , I have a athlon 1.33ghz, Sounblaster audigy and a geforce4 ti4200 54mb ddr, 512mb sdram, my OS is windows XP pro , and I really haven't played it because it is toooooooo slow. Anyway if you have a powerful computer you should not have any troubles running this game. If you don't, don't bother until your next upgrade.

Summary: Mafia is the bomb!!!
Review: This game is for everyone. It has awesome graphics, and a great driving system. No cheesy hit a curb and blow up, nor ram 80 miles an hour into a wall and drive away as if it never happened. The only thing that bites is no in-game save feature and no cheatcodes for it. It has a wonderful style of play, and is great. I would reccomend this to many games. Enjoy :-)
The only thing is, Free Ride. I would like to see a better Free Ride mode if there is a Mafia2. Like, GTA3 and Vice City's. It was during the mission. On this, the Free Ride is pointless. Not interactive, can't do missions, pointless. Crazy Red's, you found weapons on the ground with money sign. Not as good.

Summary: Max Payne meets GTA3... only not as good
Review: Yes, as you know, Mafia combines the story-driven shooting of Max Payne with the (supposedly) free-form city sim of GTA3. Unfortunately, Mafia isn't worthy of the noble pedigree, and unless a patch fixes some serious performance issues (even on high-end pcs), I'd recommend holding off on this one.

In addition to being slow and boring, the driving sections run choppily, even on a Geforce Ti4600. To add insult to injury, the graphics in these sections aren't overly impressive; aside from nice reflections on cars, the draw distance is weak, even on the highest settings, and the human pedestrians are poorly animated. Furthermore, these mundane drives take up about two-thirds of your gameplay time, so I don't understand why so many reviewers shrug them off as a minor distraction.

The "foot" missions are another story. They're classic third-person action in the same vein as Max Payne (sans bullet-time). With atmosphere-rich settings ranging from a church to a harem to a series of nicely rendered rooftops, these sequences are the undeniable highlights. The question is: do you really want to wade through some of the most mundane, frustrating driving you've ever played to get to them?

Summary: One of the Best games I've ever played
Review:

I have never played GTA3, but I've determined that Mafia is better. I know it's unfair, but judging by other reviews, this is better by comparrison. Mafia has all the features of a great game: a great storyline. The need for big, strategic, moves. And a VERY impressive gameplay enviorment.

I don't know what police are like in GTA3, and I don't know if it even has police at all. But caution, that when you play Mafia, if you're going to kill someone, look before you do so. The game has a simulated patrol system of police, and they will arrest you if you have a weapon and they see it. They'll also fine you for speeding, running red lights, and colliding with other cars. And don't run away. They'll catch you sooner or later, unless you can manage to hide out until they're tired of looking for you. It's never happened to me, but maybe you can.

The fun part about Mafia is, this was the 1930's. I'm not the greatest player in the shooter genre, but no grenades or land mines here. So you won't suddenly blow up. But if you thought early weapons such as the Tommy Gun, Louisville Sluggers, and brass knuckles were useless, you were wrong. These weapons are key to winning the singleplayer. One feature I enjoyed was, if the police are out for you, you can just pull out your gun, ang gun them down. I Thought it was so much fun to kill the boys in blue!

BOTTOM LINE: Mafia, with one of the most theatrical storylines ever, and a very impressive gameplay, with so many other features that I can't tell you in this review, make Mafia one of the best video games of 2002. It's very entertaining and fun, as well as challenging. DON'T JUST SIT THERE! BUY IT! YOU WON"T BE DISSAPOINTED! And if you are at the start, give it time. This game is awesome.

Summary: A Totally New Experience
Review: This is a phenomenal game. Set amongst the backdrop of USA in the 1930's, you play a mafioso involved with the notorious crime family, the Salieri's. As a henchman for 'Don Salieri' you must assassinate politicians and rival gangsters, escape the police, take out many a henchman Max Payne style, drive in a motor rally... the list goes on. That's why Mafia gets 4-and-a-half stars from this reviewer: each mission is totally different and unique, and all of the missions integrate into a unifying plot structure.

Essentially the game is split into two different play modes, those being on foot and behind the wheel of an old-style motorcar. When on foot you're usually firing a weapon of some description at a gangster or a union 'Heavy'. The firefights in Mafia are very exciting. You have to juggle multiple bad guys who work together (by flanking or coming at you at the same time for example), and make sure you compensate for the reload time for your weapons. Thompson machine guns have a hampering kickback you have to adjust for, but they're great for causing cars to explode that enemies hide behind.

The driving is slightly annoying. First of all the cars aren't too flash (we're not talking GTA3 Corvettes here) - but if it's always been your dream to drive around in Model-T Ford style cars on the speed limit, you're in luck! At various intervals you'll have to chase after escaping cars, avoid the police and deliver passengers on time. Ultimately the driving is quite exciting, but it gets annoying having to drive across town to a rendezvous point. Still it serves to break up the action quite nicely.

Mafia is a truly unique gaming experience that plays and feels smooth and stylish. The gunfights flow beautifully and the operation of vehicles is realistic and credible. There's plenty of cutscenes and suspense, and even a little romance. Essentially it plays like a B-grade Mafia picture (in the cutscenes) but feels like an A-grade computer game.
