Summary: Best FPS ever?
Review: The basics:

Having played Enter The Matrix for a while now I can definitely say that this is the best first person shooter I have played to date -- it just about beats Half-Life, and those of you who have played Half-Life understand just how difficult that is to do. There are definitely many bugs, but none of them are serious enough to rob this game of its deserved five stars. Hopefully patches will take care of most of them in the near future.

My System:

Pentium 4 2.2 gHz
512 MB RAM

GeForce 3 Ti 200 64 MB

The good:

The gameplay has something for everyone and offers choices as to how you'd like to fight. It's simple to go in guns blazing, or to free your mind and take down your enemies with reality-bending kung-fu.

The animation is the best there is -- only minor twitching at high zoom make it less impressive than a live action film.

The Hacking ability is in depth, fun, and from what I can tell is actually necessary for some parts of the game (HINT: "DROP PNSRZ10" before the SWAT chopper). Though it's not exactly true to life, the differences are not really crippling or even detrimental to its overal quality. It also provides an adequate mental workout for an FPS and brings in even more links to the feature films.

Speaking of which, the solid hour of original high-quality live-action footage shot with the same cast, crew and sets as the Matrix sequels is incredible and enlightening, but it is by no means the only cinematic element of the game. There are also in engine cutscenes that rank below the movies only in graphical detail -- the rest is at least as good, and in some parts better (I was blown away as the real world (including a Pontiac Firebird) literally _fell into place_ piece-by-piece around the main characters while they were inside the construct -- all in the game engine).

The game's story is also engrossing, and reveals much about the movies while keeping perfectly in line with them in every way.

The physics are second to no game I have played to date, including the highly-praised Unreal Tournament 2003 and its Karma ragdoll physics engine. I imagine that ETM will remain the leading game in this area (even if it goes unrecognized as such) until the next generation likes of Half-Life 2 and DOOM III hit the shelves.

The artificial intelligence is also impressive, as you find enemies working in groups, intelligently taking cover without any prescripted instruction and picking up the weapons of fallen men. Sometimes the game makes intelligent choices about what kind of kicks and punches your character should throw when you invoke either type of melee attack, often with spectacular effects on surrounding enemies.

The array of weaponry is impressive -- the progression along the kind of 'ladder of guns' thus far promises some very destructive additions in the future.

The bad:

Bugs. Lots of bugs. But according to tech support, many of them only affect a few people and they don't really hinder your gameplay. None of them seem really much more than skin deep, so I'd guess that patches will solve most or all of the problems. (There's even an early stage patch out now that takes care of some of the more serious issues, and this is only four days after the game was released.)

The graphics are up-to-date, with details, textures and faces that look very real (to a large extent due to extensive motion capture and a great real-time tessellation and deformation system that alters the detail of an object based on your distance from it), but they are not groundbreaking in resolution and aren't truly PHOTOrealisitc. While this is unfortunate, the lost quality is sacrificed for consistantly smooth gameplay (I have yet to see the game slow down during even the most elaborate bullet-time shootouts and fight sequences) and compatability with sub-Pentium 4 systems and game consoles.

The camera and controls are not _bad_, but they _do_ take some getting used to. At first I suspected them, but then I went back to the first level after having gotten well into the second chapter of the game to see how far I'd come, and I can tell you that you definitely learn a lot along the way.

The bottom line:

This game has problems, but it's so well thought out and made that the superficial stuff can easily been looked past to see a great game (even if a bug screws you up, your mistake could easily be a breathtaking cinematic maneuver that is just as cool as what you were trying to do anyway). Enter The Matrix is a lot of fun and has just the right amount of challenge -- the best balance I've see in this genre of game so far, and at least to me this game is definitely worth the time and money.

Summary: Just not very good
Review: I love action games and the Matrix, so I was really looking forward to this game. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. From the very first time I watched Ghost flail his arms when he ran, I knew this game just wasn't going to cut it. In the attempt to make a workable control system, Shiny has made something that doesn't respond fluidly. Instead, the focus jumps between targets, jerking the viewpoint around and making navigation difficult. Additionally, the game is way too under-challenging. I'm no expert player, but all you have to do is sit still for a few seconds and your health just magically refills. It really sucks the challenge out of the game. Maybe a few patches down the road things will be better, but things are still way too rough at version 1.52

Summary: Great game ...
Review: "You get tasks but you dont know why" - and have you watched ANIMATRX ? In "Final Flight of osiris" theres an explanation why you retrive video tape. The rest is in Matrix: Reloaded ...
Graphic is great, but you have to choose best performance ... Controlls are a bit strange, but after a while (about 30 minutes for me) theyre great, ad now i couldnt imagine them to be different. Oh, and music is awesome ... :) A definitive MUST BUY for all who wants to go deeper into Matris storyline ...
PS
"Hack" mode is a great idea ... :)

Summary: A step back in game playing technology (PC version)
Review: The ONLY reason this gets two stars is because it is a cool idea to reveal extra story via an interactive video game (even if it is just to extend the marketing arm of the movie). However, the graphics are terrible and the controls are more than terrible. You spend most of your time being shot by people you can't even see because the camera is pointing the wrong direction. And there is no aiming reticle in 3rd person. In other words, you just shoot a lot and hit something about every 10th shot or so. In scenes with cars the wheels are SQUARE (and I'm running a VERY top of the line system)! That should give you some idea of how disappointing this is. I'll play through it just to get the extra story, but I'll be a very happy person once this failure is off my computer.

Summary: Essential Part Of the _The Matrix_ Experience
Review: This is a very good game. This is an *excellent* game if you are a fan of _The Matrix_.

I saw _The Matrix_ twice in the theater. I own the DVD and have watched it at least ten times. I also own _The Matrix Revisted_ and have watched it three times.

I went to the movie on May 15th. I loved it. (BTW, all of the negative or less than positive reviews of Matrix Reloaded I've seen have been nit-picks.)

I came out of the movie, bought this game, and promptly came home and began playing it...This is a great game...

Most of the negative reviews of this game have focused on the buttons you have to press during combat. It seems most reviewers wish you had to press more buttons to kick... I think they play too many games and/or have too much free time to learn complex combo-moves. Just punching and kicking and jumping in this game has great effect and looks very cool.

The controls are perfect for people who don't play first-person shooters compulsively (maybe compulisive FPS players like it too, I don't know). There is actually a plot. The video looks great. It fills in holes in the movie and contributes to the story line.

I haven't finished the games as both players yet (I started with Ghost and just started Niobe) but it has been an excellent game so far and I'm happy to have spent hard earned dollars on it.

Summary: Better than the Movie
Review: I saw Matrix reloaded and didn't understand it. I played this game and it put things together. This game is really fun. I played though it the first time and my mouth was wide open. The highlight of this game is the hand to hand combat. IT AMAZING!!! This game takes back everything that Max Payne stole from the Matrix and kicks it up a notch. The story is excellent... you even get to fight Trinity hand to hand which is probably one of the coolest things in the game.

Summary: What is this?????
Review: This movie deserves more than a little respect when you talk about a game version. Regretfully, Atari were not thinking about this when they made the PC version. I mean, what is this??. The graphics are absolutly depressing, an empty enviroment with poor decorations and most of all..boring.
No detailed graphics, and did you see the plain???
There could have been a tutorial, based on training programs as you see in the movie, guys, where`s your imagination?
I must admit that the fighting is well done, (and the only reason to play this game).
It is very sad to see how an incredible movie gets so little appreciation and dedication when it comes to a game "based on".
If the Wachowski Brothers consider its creation a "cult" movie (as it is) they should have never let this garbage see the light.
Shame on you Atari.

Summary: A fun time but the graphics aren't spectacular...
Review: I have played the game a while now. So far the story has been engaging. It probably stems from a close game-productiong watch by the Wachowski brothers. So far it seems that most of the character's voices are the ACTUAL actors voices. The game story correlates well with the movie (which I also recommend seeing...like I need to tell anyone reading this that =).
I read one review saying the interface was klunky but I would disagree. It is pretty straightforward. It does take a bit of getting-used-to especially working in "focus/bullettime mode" but it doesn't take long to figure it out.
Oh and whatever reviewer said that "enter the matrix" stole bullet-time from Max Payne. I hate to smash a time-line over your head but try the fact that Max Payne ripped-off the idea of bullet time from the first Matrix FILM. I don't think it is illegal to put Matrix invented fighting style in the official Matrix game. Perhaps it is Max Payne (a great game by the way...which I also recommend playing) that should pay some appreciation to the Matrix.

That said, the graphics are not anything remarkable. The game does have a decent look and feel to it, but compared to some of the E3 footage of Half-Life 2 and Doom 3, it pales in comparison. Although, Enter the Matrix does run well on my P4 1.8GHz 512MB SDRAM + GeForce 4 TI 4200 128MB comp w/ 2X AA and 2X aniso. .... So if you don't have the GREATEST computer ever and are interested in a fun game I recommend it. Plus if you need a dose of morally reprehensible gaming......

Summary: Great game.
Review: In my opinion I think that this game has lived up to its hype. The graphics are awesome and even though my PC suffers because I don't have a top of the line one, I can still enjoy the game as much as anyone else. The 'Bullet Time' is especially cool. I think it is what pulls it away from other games of its genre. You can do anything that characters in the movie can do. The controls take a little getting used to because some people are used to playing games like Counter-Strike and Half-Life, but with a little practice, the controls are mastered. Gameplay is great and along with awesome graphics, this game rocks.

Summary: BUYERS BEWARE...take the blue pill
Review: If you had a choice to take the red pill or blue pill...
I advise that you take the blue pill on this game.

I have played many games in my day and i would have to say that "Enter the Matrix" is NOT an enjoyable game. It has to be by far the worst game out there currently. If the shoddy graphics doesn't make you sick to your stomach, the player's controls will. You have to have Neo's abilities just to work through the controls if the game. I actually put this game down and instead, went to play pick up stick because at least that was more engaging. The movie is awesome but don't let this part of the matrix have you...take the blue pill and avoid how deep this rabbit hole goes.
