Summary: A lot of fun
Review: This game is a lot of clean fun. My nine year old loves it and I play it sometimes. No violence anywhere as could be expected but it plays like a FPS adventure game. Its no suprise to me that the game is based on the technically superior Unreal gaming engine.

Summary: HArry Pothead and the Sorcercer is Stoned
Review: The Harry Potter phenomenon, which originated with J.K. Rowling's incredibly popular series of fantasy novels, has arrived to gaming audiences as a series of cross-platform action-adventure games published by Electronic Arts. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone casts you in the role of the troubled young orphan wizard during his first year of studies at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As Harry, you are challenged to attend classes in the arcane arts, collect as many magical sweets as you can find, and foil the plot of your parents' killer, the evil Voldemort.

The music, on the other hand, is enjoyable throughout. Providing the palpably magical soundtrack is acclaimed composer Jeremy Soule, who absolutely shines at certain moments. When pesky gnomes scurry out from behind corners to steal your beans, a recurring lighthearted tune will kick in, signaling the appearance of these nuisances. The music does well to convey the emotion of certain parts of the game, whether it's nervous tension during sneaking sequences or the excitement of a heated Quidditch match. The selections do repeat a bit too often, though, so there isn't enough variety to keep the game sounding fresh throughout its short duration.

Ultimately, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone doesn't have the widespread appeal of its literary namesake and is suitable only for children. When compared with the many stellar gameplay experiences available to PC gamers today, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone underwhelms with an extremely brief story, overly simplistic platform jumping sequences, and repetitive gameplay. Then again, children ready to move on from purely educational PC games to those that are purely entertaining will likely enjoy Harry's first PC adventure, but older players captivated by Rowling's first tale would be better served by reading the novel's three sequels or by seeing the movie again.

Summary: Harry Potter - proof there is no god
Review: This game is a great game, for all those under the age of 7. Anyone who prefers games with a sense of challenge, speed, and dignity should steer clear of this game. For those of you who are fans of Harry Potter and are inclined to get it because of that, this is not the game to get. This game merely disgraces the already pitiful Harry Potter series.

Summary: Fun, for younger kids.
Review: This game has nice graphics and stays very faithful to the book, I can give it that. Also EA slapped this together in about four months in time for the movie.. so if you consider that factor, it's an excellent game. If you're an experienced gamer and like challenges, this game isn't for you. If you're a fan of Harry Potter and enjoy playing electronic quidditch and searching the halls of Hogwarts, give it a try =)

-- A word of advice, this game performs best on a desktop computer, not a laptop. Some of the spells and such are hard to do without a mouse.

Summary: Electronic Arts Harry Potter Masterpiece
Review: This game is by far the best game I've played in a while. Stunnung graphics, easy control, and wonderful concept. It really seems like your at Hogwarts. Myself, after being disappointed after playing Harry Potter Lego Creator, I felt uneasy buying another Harry Potter game. But this surpasses Lego. Although disappointed at how fast it goes through, like skipping the beginning, and unclear message about Snape. Overall, this game has brough smiles to me and many of my families faces.

Pros:
Great Graphics
Awesome Quidditch scene
Fun gameplay
learn spells, collect bertie botts, eat chocolate frogs to boost health
Cons:
after a while, makes you dizzy
sometimes hard to steer
seems like redoes itself, cuts things out (doing quirrells challenge twice, not seeing transfiguration)
short gameplay time

Summary: One great game!!!!
Review: This is one of the coolest games I've ever played. I thought it wouldn't be as long as it is--It's really long! I'm still playing and haven't managed to get past sneaking down from the tower to deliver Norbert to Charlie (anyone have any advice for me? Please?) It's quite difficult and you have to do a lot of stuff. Really, there isn't any time when you're doing something that isn't challenging. I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes Harry Potter and likes computer games. You've gotta get this one!

Summary: Good Gameplay and Great Graphics!
Review: Besides being one of the best games I've ever played, this game also is the perfect the level of difficulty for almost any gamer, regardless of experience with the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.
The game is mostly based on the movie, particularly in the way the characters' faces look. I can guarantee that this game will keep you entertained for many, many hours!

Summary: So Creative!
Review: Harry Potter...I was so enthralled with every book that it was hard for me to believe that the game could even compare with the book. But let me tell you it is absolutely amazing. All the characters and interactions are portrayed verbatum to the book, and the fantasy becomes reality to all who play. It's amazing that you get to cast spells, collect Bertie Bott's Beans, and take lessons while exploring the castle of Hogwarts. The graphics are awesome so go play NOW!

Summary: Family Fun
Review: My six year old daughter and I play this game daily since she got it for Christmas. I would not reccomend buying it for your children aged 6-7 if you yourself are not able to play with them. There are some very difficult areas that give me a work out at the controls. Even with me running it, she loves every minute! A great game for us to play together!

Summary: Totally addictive, I have to play after the kids are in bed!
Review: Well, friends, I purposely did not buy a joystick for my computer-- nor a Ninendo, Gameboy or Playstation or any other brainsucking technology to keep my kids from their love of reading. But uh-oh, here comes a great Harry Potter game, dropped on our unsuspecting family by a benevolent granny, and whamo! -- we have been glued to the computer ever since.

First, and most important, is the game's loyalty to the books, all four of which we have read together. I am happy to report that the storyline of the game (so far) has been refreshingly true to the book. The characters are beautifully depicted and have nice British accents that my kids love to mimic.

How difficult is it? Well, for my family, who are complete videogame neophytes, it's pretty darn hard. We've taken turns trying to learn how to fly on a broomstick, and while I as an adult had an early advantage in this effort, my eight year-old son has, with repeated practice, surpassed me. We've died dozens of deaths trying to jump from one moving platform to another, in facing a nasty "cracker" throwing Malfoy and in chasing the same rememberall-swiping villain during a hair-raising broomstick chase. There are numerous snapping plants, vicious turtles and secret passageways. On the bright side there are Bertie Bott's beans, chocolate frogs, wizard cards, and stars to collect.

Since we are not avid computer game people (our other favorite is Chessmaster 8000) we can't compare this to a broad range of other games, but I can tell you that the two kids and I have spent a disturbingly large proportion of their school break playing this game and rooting for each other as we alternate taking shots at passing the various challenges. It has been way too absorbing, and I almost wish we never got started, because we have a long way to go before we complete the game and face the ultimate enemy, He Who May Not be Named!

Truly, this is tremendous entertainment value for your money. We are not even halfway into the game and have spent many exciting hours (I hate to think how many) walking in Harry's shoes.

Good luck on your adventures at Hogwarts, and in parting, I advise you strongly to use the "auto jump" feature on the options menu, or you may be plunging to your death for many days!
