Summary: The single best Single-player game I have ever played.
Review: This epic of a game has become my touchstone when determining the quality of a new game. This game contains unsurpassed quality in depth, story, replayability, and just plain fun. This is not your normal RPG OR shooter. It takes strategy, and your own style. I loved being able to determine my own fate and progress. Be warned though, this game is not for those who can just run and gun. Those of you who can't think your way out of a paper box will probably return this game, and I know some people that did. The only issue I had was that the graphics were pretty dated, because I just got it at the end of last year. For 2000 though, the graphics were beutiful, and besides, the archetecture and level design is absolutely amazing. I can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: Tried to like it
Review: Sorry guys but I gotta diss this game. I just don't understand what you all think is so great about it. Firstly, I want realism. Have you seen the way the characters move in the game - running back and forth, constantly changing direction. That's not realistic. Reminded me of the way flies move rather than humans. It's true that everybody else has given this game 5 stars, but then there are only 28 reviews at the time of this writing, which seems a bit strange considering this game is at least 18 months old now. I bought this game at the same time as System Shock 2 and SS2 puts this to shame even though its a year or two older. But then SS2 puts everything to shame.

Summary: Deus Excrement
Review: I played this game a few months ago, and I never got into it. I'm not really into sci/fi games in the first place, and it didn't help that the storyline was a little [off] if existent at all.

The graphics were ok for its time and I enjoyed the idea of sneaking around guards, taking them out one by one, and the idea of hacking computers to get info and working the cameras(i'm a programmer what can I say). The sound and sound track lacked much to be desired.

I had to make myself play it sometimes, because I always have to finish what I start, before I can move on to another game. Half-Life sucked this game out into space down a black hole. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 1 was the graphics and the unique gameplay.

After all is said and done it must have been a bad year for gamers for this to get a Game of the Year award.

Summary: Was bored the day I bought it
Review: I couldn't find anything that sounded interesting so I bought Deus Ex. I generally don't like this sort of game, or at least I didn't think I did. I hadn't played a first person shooter in years but I found that I really enjoyed this one. Good story line, lots of options (you can be as tough or as stealthy as you want) and a good ending. Love that sniper rifle. A definite recommend on this game.

Summary: Best Single Player Game Ever!
Review: I can't describe this game as a game. It's an experience.

Fully interactive environment, you feel in control of your destiny, your character, and things around you, and a part of a reality.

I got this game with my SB Audigy Gamer - and I'm surprised I never tried it out before. If I had I probably wouldn't have purchased the last 15 games, instead I'd probably would just keep playing more Deus Ex - it has a very high replayability.

You must get this game - it raises the bar on what we should all expect from supposedly interactive RPG/FPS games. Deus Ex is the standard we should demand from development teams.

Start recording your favorite TV shows for the next week, you'll be locked into Deus Ex. =)

Review: what can i say that hasn't been said already?

i started playing this game three days ago, and i have been unable to move from my chair until just now, when i finished it.
i practically had to make myself go to sleep yesterday morning, after a 24 hour run.. i'd been drop dead tired for at least 6 hours, but i couldn't quit.

here's the thing about the complaints people have.. i agree with all the things people say about how the A.I. is kind of bad, and the animation isn't the best.. but i don't care. i've never played a game so fun in my life. after Deus Ex, its going to be pretty hard for a game to keep me interested.. because i've seen how good they can get. now, i guess i'll see what multiplayer is like.

Summary: The next step in gaming evolution
Review: Warren Spector and Doug Church are absolute gaming geniuses. While the System Shock series blended action with role-playing (and horror), Deus Ex brings in the element of adventure games. If this is where gaming is going, there's a bright future ahead.

Summary: Deus Ex is awesome!!
Review: Deus Ex is one of the best games I've ever seen (The others being Counter-Strike and Return to Castle Wolfenstein). It combines a role-playing game with a first-person shooter with the best features for each. The customizable inventory system is great. The music is amazing and sets the mood perfectly. It's also great because of the role playing game parts, the conversations and the exploring. In most first-person shooters, you just go through the levels, shooting stuff and maybe finding a secret place. In Deus Ex, you can play through the entire game without shooting anyone, you can play the game over five times and still find a huge amount of new stuff, and you can talk to people.
The only bad part is the voice acting, which isn't very good.

BUY IT RIGHT NOW.

Summary: Oooooohhhh give me my life back....
Review: Wowsers is this game phenomenal. The variety of weaponry, the challenges of the missions, the amazing graphics, the online multi-player capability....I've run through the single player version 4 times, and am an online addict. It's insane. It's gorgeous. I love it.

Admittedly, the missions are occasionally repetitive, but there are enough changes to keep things interesting. Running through the single player version multiple times is still very enjoyable, because one may choose different weapons, augmentations, and answers to questions from non-player characters.

The main problem comes from the insanely fast passage of time which occurs whilst playing - I swear my computer desk zaps into some bizarro space/time continuum thing which makes 6 hours seem like 1. Oy.

My advice - if you have a significant other with whom you wish to spend time, just stay right the heck away from this game. Seriously, oh my yes. Otherwise, run (do not walk) and get this game. You truly won't be sorry.

Summary: Excellent Combat & Strategy Game
Review: This game is a realistic combination of a first-person shooter and strategy game, quite deftly combined. Its gameplay requires patience and precision, but its attention to detail is incredible.
Example: when you start out you get skill points that allow you to truly customize your character's strengths. As one would expect, these can make a dramatic difference in how your character performs. Just as an amateur picking up a sniper rifle would have trouble scoring a headshot at any distance, so does your character. When untrained the crosshairs bounce around, making precision difficult. If you advance to master, however, it's rock-solid. If you prefer using pistols and pistol-type weapons (like the mini-crossbow they give you), you can focus on that. When using the crossbow it is interesting to watch what happens when you hit someone, especially when using the tranquilizer darts...when struck with even the most precise shot the target usually won't immediately go down. This is both realistic and a nuisance, since they often have enough presence of mind to either sound an alarm or otherwise alert other guards of your presence before falling. Likewise, if you are struck by a tranquilizer dart, your vision will temporarily blur and you will progressively take more damage in the spot of the impact.
When your character takes damage, it affects both his overall health and the specific health of the region that was hit. For example, the more damage the character takes in his legs, the more profound the associated loss of speed and maneuverability will become. Likewise, if the damage is to the arms his melee attacks will lose strength and his accuracy may be impaired.
In addition to your vast skill choices, you also have the ability to further customize your character by adding nanotech augmentations that enhance his abilities. As you advance in the game you will find these canisters that you can "install" into yourself, allowing you to choose between two or more different abilities each time. For example, the first "aug" you'll find will offer you the choice of having "combat strength" or "microfibral muscle" installed. Combat strength increases the damage that your character inflicts when attacking with melee weapons; microfibral muscle increases your character's strength, allowing him to lift heavier objects. If you are customizing your character to be a master of combat, you'd want to install the combat strength; if focusing on stealth you might want to consider the microfibral muscle, since it may allow you to completely avoid a combat situation by moving large objects around and discovering or creating alternate paths. In addition to these, you can upgrade almost all aspects of your character...everything from having ballistic protection (bullets do less to no damage) to targeting (increases accuracy and shows information about the identity and health of your target) to an aggressive defense system (prematurely detonates incoming explosives such as rockets and grenades, reducing or eliminating the injury to the player). Using all of these at once, a player would be near unstoppable...except that they essentially included a battery pack that all of these augs must run off. This means that you should really only implement your special abilities when you desperately need to, less you find yourself unable to do so later.
Those players who are used to the shoot-first-ask-questions-later mindset of Quake, Half-Life, and other such games may be in for a rude awakening when playing Deus Ex. Your character is not (fully) a super-hero who will walk away from a fight with a dozen enemy soldiers with only minor damage. Even on easy difficulty, it's very easy to get killed if you do not employ stealth and strategy in your actions.
In short, I'd highly recommend this game to anyone who is interested in both strategy and some serious action. I haven't had the opportunity to play the game in multiplayer, but I'm certain that it every bit is as incredible as the rest of the game.
