Summary: WOW!
Review: Myst and Riven are the best games I've ever played! I want the creators of the games to know that their years of work and frustration are very much appreciated.

From the moment I started playing Myst to the moment I finished Riven I was lost in those worlds. The way the games fit together perfectly really impressed me. Playing Riven was all I thought about while I played it. Sometimes I'd wake up late at night because I had a dream about what the solution to a puzzel in Riven might be. The beautiful surroundings will amaze and stun you. They deserve to be observed and appreciated. The many hours spent trying to decipher the many puzzels are well worth it when you get to the end of the game. It will make you almost giddy. The puzzels don't even seem like puzzels! They fit in perfectly with the surroundings.

Hey, I've got great news for die-hard fans of Myst and Riven! I have heard "rumors" about a sequal to Riven! It is called Myst III: Exile. Keep your eyes open!

When you play Riven you truly "link to others worlds." Get ready for the time of your life!

Summary: Riven- There is NOTHING else like it!
Review: This game is ABSOLUTELY TOP DOG, Hands Down! I truly enjoyed the ethereal, alien-like worlds that can be explored as well as the intricate puzzles that make you WANT to go further. The storyline is captivating, and the graphics are stunning. I was automatically immersed into the plot and became mesmerized by everything that there is to explore and to find. What an escape from everyday life here on Earth! I had thought I was thrilled when I played Myst, but now I am just overwhelmed by all that is RIVEN! This game is definitely THE BEST of ALL time and I am hoping against all hope that somewhere out there in software land, game developers are doing what they can to try and create a game that will top this one....thats the game that I would sell my soul to play!

Summary: Simply terrific
Review: I don't play computer games. Like, at all. Except for Myst, and now Riven. They are intelligent, require thought, and immerse you in a fascinating world of the Miller's imagination. I was delighted with Riven, but I was having a hell of a time getting through it - and my partner was stuck too - then we started playing it together. My intuition, his straightforward logic, and our mutual enjoyment of the glorious world of Riven - not only did we get to play a terrific game, it helped us see the strengths of our differences! Challenging, clever, overwhelming graphics and so-realistic sounds, the world of Riven is addictive in the best way. Only problem is, there's no room for a sequel. Rats.... but I would recommend Riven and Myst to any thinking adult who just doesn't understand the appeal of those mindless 'shoot 'em up' computer games. This one's different. This one is terrific. Buy it, play it, live it.

Summary: The Ages of Myst live on......
Review: I played and conquered Myst and Riven about a year and a half ago but I still find myself exploring their worlds for just pur fun. Their beautiful landscapes and enchanting creatures keep me entertained for hours on end. I even love the imaginative music used(so much that I bought the soundtrack).

When I had completed the games I felt like I had achieved a monumental task(which is true if you've played the games to the end), but enventually I felt some sorrow that it had all ended. I felt as if I still didn't know the entire story, which I didn't. So I bought the Myst novels to learn everything I could about the D'ni civilization.....they helped tremendously. It still wasn't enough. I wanted more.

I just discovered that Mattel and Presto Studios have pikced up where Cyan left off. A new follow-up to Riven will be released early next year tilted Myst 3: Exile. You'll have to check out the website(myst3.com) to get the latest information. If you've enjoyed the games as much as I have then this will be an answered prayer.

For those of you who haven't completed Riven yet, don't give up....it's the best experience.

Summary: Riven Rocks!
Review: This game is so cool it is not to be believed. I LOVE IT! If you thought that the graphics were good in Myst, Riven's are 10 times better. The story is amazing. I loved the way all of the pieces were connected. It took a while to get everything sorted out but once I did it was really cool. The only bad thing is that you can easily overlook some important things while you are on some islands, but the way everything looks makes up for it. Sometimes I could actually imagine I was in Riven. It is one very cool game.

Summary: Never Want to leave !
Review: I just purchase this game a few weeks ago. It was the first that I played anything related to Myst. This is is user friendly, unlike other games where you have to fumble over the keyboard controls.

Beautiful landscapes and exciting roller coaster like transports from one island to another makes this game enjoyable and exciting.

Clever puzzles are disguised as Riven's natural habitat.

This is a slow pace game not for those who like face-paced game. As always, this game is fustrating and after a while, you might get tired with it...

But the absorbing story line and the landscapes should will make you forget all that, and you might never want to leave Riven, even after you completed Riven many times...

Summary: One big serious problem...
Review: Okay, yes, this game is beautiful. Yes, the story is compelling. Yes, the details are mind-boggling.

But...this game is -needlessly- frustrating. There is often a considerable lag time between when you figure out how to solve a problem and when you can actually do something about it.

Oh, and if you are trying to play this game without headphones, forget it. You'll be beating your head against a wall within a few hours. The game "suggests" that you use headphones. Nay, say I. You -must- have them.

Back to needless frustration. As I experienced in Myst, there were a number of painfully long hours in which I -knew- how to solve a puzzle but the extremely small detail and absolute perfection in every single movement needed to actually -do- the puzzle was beyond my dexterity. Many of the puzzles (like the topographical map/animal sounds/sliding balls etc) were so multi-layered that you actually could forget which piece went to what puzzle and why you were doing it in the first place. They were hard not because of the difficulty in figuring them out, but in actually doing the mechanics to realize the solution. I've played Infocom, I know what -real- difficulty is. Myst and Riven are a not-quite-as-fun kind of difficult.

I lost track of the number of times that I said, out loud, just like when I played Myst (the underground shuttle in Myst, for example) "You've got to be kidding me". I would instantly realize what had to be done and watch in horror, as the long, boring, and frustrating road of actually doing it stretched out before me.

But...some of the puzzles were actually relevant to the story, so you felt a purpose in solving them. At times, you didn't mind the fact that you spent hours on something so gosh-darned silly, because hey, at least the pictures were pretty.

Good story, good pictures, good animation, some good puzzles, but bring a lot of paper and a pen for notes, a really good set of headphones, and about 4 aspirin.

Summary: a novel you can inhabit
Review: Riven is beautiful and engrossing. It is not so difficult as portrayed in some reviews, although it does take patience and persistence. It took me several rainy vacation days to complete, without hint books, etc. If you allow your imagination to inhabit the novels you read, Riven will be both intuitive and diverting. If you are not a reader, don't bother.

Summary: wonderful!
Review: I thought Myst was great but Riven is even better. I saved it until I was on vacation and it's a good thing I did because I was unable to think of anything else for several days. Hooked is an understatement. Both my husband and I were totally absorbed in this world. I've been waiting over a year for another one like it .... sequel to Riven? PLEASE!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very complicated, well detailed, but a little too hard.
Review: Riven is the best game. If I were a genius, I would love it, but average old me thinks it is too hard to beat without the walkthrough, so I got it. The game is a must-buy, but it is too difficult if you don't plan on playing for years and still having only a small chance of winning.
