Summary: Fun...Good Looking...but LONG
Review: Probably one of the most anticipated games since it's predecessor, Myst, was released, and well it should be. This game features extraordinary 3d art, and along with the puzzles and challenges that await you, it is definitley well worth purchasing. However..If you are impatient, this game is not worth the fifty bucks, for it requires paying hours and hours of close attention, and note taking. But the funny thing is..that still isn't enough. Have fun.

Summary: Riven: The Sequel to Myst
Review: In this, one of the most eagerly awaited computer games of all time, the user is shown a truly diverse and intriguing world. As appealing as this may sound, one would never known it. Dealing with the game's lack of involvement and user participation grows tiresome quickly. The concept of point-and-click gameplay, which was revolutionary in Myst's day, is beginning to show its age. Today's games often immerse the player in another world; Riven succeeds in only providing the individual with a multitude of pretty scenes. There may be a fascinating story behind Riven, but it is lost in its clumsy implementation. This title will only appeal to those who wish to show off their fast and new their computers. I surely won't be waiting around another five years for the next installment.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: The creators of this game must be geniuses to create such a masterpiece. The puzzles, the sound, and the graphics are far superior to anything I have ever seen. It's like playing a movie. I can't wait for Cyan, and Red Orb to come out with another sequel. Hopefully, by that time DVD will already be the standard so that we don't have to keep changing discs. Enjoy! :)

Summary: Riven is a Beautiful Thing
Review: While it's intriguing for a Mac fanatic like myself to watch various Win 3.1 users shake their fists, I found the idea of a 60mhz Mac running this game a nice idea. I agree that this is one of those times where there's no reason to move as quickly as one would have to in _Quake_ or _Duke Nukem_. Cyan's enhanced _Myst_ and its mythos beyond what I had expected, and the puzzles seem to be a little more playful this time around, unlike some of the more stoic ones from before. This game is well worth upgrading (and, if you haven't noticed, the system requirements are much less demanding on a Mac than a Wintel so you could always buy a used Mac...). If a society is judged by its art, then we are in the presence of what our society will be remembered for long after Duke has shot off his last round and you've crashed that flight simulator for the final time.

Summary: Words don't describe it.
Review: It's not often that I buy a computer game, much less invest almost $1000 in a computer system so it can run that game. But after seeing myst, I _had_ to see riven. I upgraded video, sound, and downgraded my OS to win95 from linux, just so I could play it. And it was worth it (not to mention I got plenty of puzzle-solving just getting the new sound card, cd drive, etc to all work :-)). Riven is _beautiful_. Amazingly rendered graphics, resolution that makes Myst look shoddy, beautiful and haunting music. Buy the game. You will not regret it. If you have to, upgrade your computer. You will _not_ regret it. This is a game worth putitng up with windows 95 for.

Summary: Riven: Impressive, Beautiful, Unchallenging
Review:

The graphics in Riven make good use of the 5 CDs: there are plenty of views of each scene from multiple angles. The stills are stunning in 16-bit, 640x480 pixels. Transitions mostly use dissolves and wipes, which consume less CDROM space than QuickTime transition movies. Less room wasted on transitions=more room for more rooms, more views. For an example of a good game that spends a lot of CD space on QuickTime transitions, see SegaSoft's Obsidian.

As impressive as the graphics are, I found the dearth of music disappointing. Myst had haunting music throughout most of the game, Riven has music in only a few places. Both Myst and Obsidian make better and more frequent use of music.

The most stunning omission in Riven is gameplay. Myst took weeks to solve, and had several points where I went days before a breakthrough. I completed Riven in only 18 hours of gameplay. The puzzles in Riven aren't nearly as challenging as those in Myst. They are about as difficult as those in Obsidian.

You might want to consider purchasing a 4 gigabyte hard disk to enhance your enjoyment of Riven: CD swaps are frequent. Many puzzle solutions require travel from island to island: each island requires a different CD.

Summary: It's the sequel to Myst - need I say more?
Review: Riven is, simply, the sequel to Myst. This means that days of gameplay, challenging puzzles and superb graphics are expected. Riven does not let us down. From the very start of the game you are plunged into a deep and well thought-out history. From then on, you are on the rollercoaster known as Riven. Any attempt to leave your computer is futile. You are lost in a trance, and all you can hear is Riven. If you do buy Riven (and who wouldn't ?), don't plan to do much in the next few days.

Summary: Riven lives up to expectations
Review: Riven is definitely the sweetest _looking_ game I've ever played - the gameplay itself is smooth, too - the story is rich with characters and plot. I felt the puzzles were solved too easily compared to Myst, but it still took me about 50 solid hours of gaming to finish. A terrific addition to my library. I've decided to move to Riven if it ever comes on the real estate market... ;-). Thanks Rand and Robin.. take a vacation! You've earned it!

Summary: The Most Beautiful Game Ever
Review: I received the game today and I've been playing it for 10 hours, with little breaks for food. I can tell this is the best game I've ever played. With the most beautiful landscapes ever generated by a computer and a very interesting plot (?), this games takes your time and your "other addictions" to another level. You just forget you are in this world and become completely inmersed in the Miller's fantasies. Hope to finish it soon... but with little playing time I can tell you this is a must-buy product. BUY IT NOW... you won't regret.

Summary: Riven: This is the Standard for new Games !!
Review: I've already said it all. But More ? Yes, this is the Game to get your hands and Mouse on next. None before has had the visual presentation of Riven. Even the sound is far better than anything you are likely to have encountered yet. From the very start the intrigue is foremost and doesn't let up with the puzzles. How long does it take to determine the Base 5 system ? Does every lever and button do something cruical ? Come along and find out. I picked up this game and started right away. 4 hours a day and 14 days later I was on my way to safety. You can't have this much fun in front of a T.V. Congrat's to the designers. Simply Amazing
