Summary: Highly provocative!
Review: I have the original CivII and III, and I have wasted all to many hours on this wonderful game over the years. I find it really annoying that a standard feature in virtually every new game these days (multiplayer over the Internet) is released as an Expansion Pack. That's really all there is to it. Sure, they throw in some other stuff to, but they are really just trying to sell the same game twice, just like they did with CivII. I haven't made up my mind whether I'll buy it or not, but I certainly don't like this trend.

Summary: who are these people who write a review?
Review: How can somebody write a review of a game and give it stars when they haven't even seen it??? If you absolutely HAVE to write something on a computer, and don't know what else to do, DON'T REVIEW SOMETHING! Instead, write a letter to your grandma. She misses you.

Sheesh.

And Amazon: if you delete this one, you have to delete the previous one.

Summary: Have The Original
Review: I have the Regular Civ 3 so I'm not sure what to expect out of the expansion Pack. All they are adding are new countries to play as and a multiplayer function (sounds great doesn't it?) In any event like all expansion packs, this one is probably good to get if you enjoy strategy and enjoy the game (I do). It makes you think. I like games with strategy cause it's fun to use your imagination. I have all the sims expansion packs and though the game might be boring at times it's still a lot of fun to play. So all in all,I recommand getting this if your a fan of strategy and role playing games.

Summary: And it's for multiplayer?
Review: I got this so I could play the game with my son on my LAN. Even though I have many multiplayer games working fine on my LAN, this one still doesn't work. They say they support WinXP and Win98SE, but I don't think they support if one PC is WinXP and one is Win98SE, (like my setup).

Their support suggested opening ports, but that's really just for Internet games, not LAN. Failing that, they blamed it on Microsoft. Adding insult to injury, you actually have to buy a separate CD for each PC even though it is a LAN game. Most games don't require this for LAN games; sure for Internet, but not LAN.

Summary: Multiplayer no, Mulitproblem yes!
Review: The only reason someone would buy this expansion pack is to play multiplayer Civ. That is really what this expansion offers. Well, let me assure you, this system is so full of bugs, so user-unfriendly, and so poorly designed that after 2 hours, me and my friend were still unable to play together online.

First, to play the game online you must go through Gamespy, an internet site. Now, you can launch the multiplayer mode from Civ 3 itself, but not be able to find friends or see who you could play, let alone invite them. You have to enter through the Gamespy program instead, and select Civ 3 as your game there. Don't worry, there are tons of ads to amuse you while you try and fail to launch the game.

Personally, I had many "firewall errors" because of my router, so I opened the ports. The errors still showed up (?), so I disconected the router and went stright from the modem. Still, the errors persisted. There is no online customer service at Gamespy, so I get to try and "figure it out myself".

I want the multiplayer simplicity offered by Age of Mythology. I love Civ 3, but this system seems hopelessly outdated already.

Summary: Only for Multi-Play Fans
Review: My review of "Civilization III: Play the World" will be short and sweet or short and sour if you prefer. The bottom line is: if you don't play multi-player games, then don't get this. The only other additions are new civs, a few new units, and one new wonder. There simply is not enough different or new to warrant purchasing this expansion pack.

Summary: If it's not broke, don't fix it.
Review: I have been a Civ fan since the very beginning with version 1. Civ II was a great improvment over the first, particularly in graphics, and game speed. I was greatly anticipating Civ III, and have never been as satisfied with that version as Civ II. I won't even consider this expansion pack, as Civ III sits on the shelf collecting dust, while Civ II is played all the time.
