Summary: A experinced gamer
Review: ... Ok, getting to te review part. Me and my friends are totally glued to this game, spending weeks in the summer trying to build a perfect civilization with a balance between military power and diplomatic resources. With that just set just think about the greatest young minds playing each other, trying to control key resources on the map such as Salt Peter to be the first to be able to build a musketman to crush your opponets weak longbow men or pikemen, or maybe be the first to control the first uranium deposits to stop the rest of your enemies from creating a ICBM, and use trade to give it to your allies. Of course, there are some disadvantages to such a great game, like t takes weeks to finish a resonable game, either by sending a spaceship to Alpha Centuri, Diplomatic or Militrastic domency and some others I don't fully remember the rest, but getting to the point it might take a couple days to finish a game and you'd have to get a good time to set up and play with your friends which might not be pleasant. And thats pretty much all of the cons so, if you plan on going out to the mall or local store, bring some cash and buy Civilization 3 expansion play the world and you'll have a great time.

Summary: Alexander
Review: First, I haven't played the expansion yet. But I have ordered it. This is to clear up some misinformation. The original reviewer says that Civ was never multiplayer. In this he is incorrect. A version came out as a multiplayer game called Civnet running on Windows 3.1.

As for CivIII? It is great. The expansion looks interesting. I look forward to playing.

Summary: !!civ 3!!
Review: First off, civilization is one of the best strategy games i have ever played, and the only one i keep coming back to.
Second, this should have come in the first release... well if we look at the history of releases, they are particularly sadening games like RA2 and broodwar only add a couple of units while leaving other more serious problems unatended (RA2).
Third civilization games have never had multiplayer released initialy. it took them 3 years to incorperate multiplayer into civ 2 and the original game will never see it. While i have not played the expansion i am sure i am giong to buy it and enjoy it far more than many of the games i have purchased in the past.

Summary: Got Practiced on CIV III? Now Play the World!
Review: With the incredible community out there all sharing info about one of the greatest god games to hit the shelves to date, it will be hard to maintain an edge in Play the World based on priviledged knowledge. The War Academy at CivFanatics alone contains so many volumes of data on best practice that it would take one several days to ingest it all.

Many are whining that a multiplayer edition should have been released with the original Civ III. I wholeheartedly disagree. These people misunderstand the basics of this series at its core. The community as it stands participates in succession games, games of the month, a democracy game where there is a hierarchy of leaders that decide the next moves in a single game and one person actualize these moves. It is incredible the amount of sharing and creativity people have involved themselves in to participate together in playing this single-player version. Now that we all know eachother and have gone through the arduous learning process together, we're ready to butt heads.

It is all with great comeraderie that we now wrestle on a multiplayer playing field. Those who gripe about the lack of multiplayer from day one are missing some of the most wonderful community in the current game and no doubt will be those most annoying to play in multiplayer. This multiplayer game is about to be dropped into one of the most amazing game communities and I for one look forward to crack heads with my friends from the forums.

Play the world. Take a clean well designed game and welcome it to the multiplayer world. I for one am very happy that I have played a relatively bug free - very stable game from the day it was released, rather than have to wait an extra 6 months for them to get multiplayer in the first edition and then have it crash every 5 minutes. I think that Firaxis and folks have done very well in their development and I look forward to their consistent stable performance in the Play the World edition to be released this week.

Summary: Adding things that should have been there before
Review: This expansion mostly adds features that should have been included in the first release. Every decent strategy game out there ships with multiplayer...you shouldn't charge more later for what should be included. A scenario editor also comes standard in many games these days. It can't be difficult to ship a scenario editor with the game. A few more civilizations? Wow. Great. Woohoo. Not worth the price. If this had the kind of innovative content that Fantastic Worlds had when it was released as an expansion to Civ2, I'd look foreward to it. Unfortunately, it looks to be simply what's required to finish an incomplete game.

Summary: Looks good to me
Review: Take a look at the screenshots at Civilization3.com to get more info. There are much needed inprovements in this expansion pack like constructable airfield/military bases and new guerilla units so you can finnally wage a secret guerilla war on your enemys. There are also sentry and radar towers so you can take a peek at where a hostile nation's troops are. One thing I hope will be improved is the Tactical AI so that I dosen't just send in units to be slaughtered as their built but amasses forces to launch counter-attacks and offensives.

Summary: New Stuff Is Good, But Not Enough Content To Justify Expansi
Review: *Eight new civilizations including new leaders and units provide even more challenges and strategic options.
- I like this. New leaders include Ghengis Khan.

*A powerful Scenario Editor allows players to construct their dream scenario and share it with players from around the world.
- If you have the patch, you already have this ability.

*Play scenarios created by others, or build your own -- replayability is now truly limitless with the new benchmark in strategy gaming!
- Who cares?

Game Features
*Multiplayer Modes: Includes Turn-Based and Simultaneous game types and appearing for the first time in a Civilization game, a Turn-less mode. Provides full TCP-IP/LAN, Hotseat and Play be Email support.
- Turnless mode changes the whole strategy in the game. Not a good thing.

*Multiplayer games: Face off against the best Civilization players worldwide with fast-paced multiplayer games like Elimination, Domination, Regicide and Capture the Flag.
- The whole point of this game is management and strategy per turn. Why make it a "race?"

*Eight new Civilizations featuring new Leaders including: Genghis Khan Temujin, King Hannibal, Queen Isabella and King Brennus, and all new units will challenge your diplomatic and combat skills.
- They should have made this portion far more in depth. This could have been an expansion in itself if they had done it right. Imagine leaders from different eras. Instead of Bismark ruling Germany, how about a genocidal Hitler for example?

* Enhanced Scenario Editor, including new unit and tile sets lets players construct a Scenario from any time period.
- Again, already possible if you have the patch.

* Players can strengthen their empire with:
new map features like outposts, airfields and radar towers
new guerilla and medieval infantry units
new wonders and city improvements like the stock market or the Internet
- More to play with. Another plus!

* Updated interface improvements like auto bombard, rally points, stacked movement and a streamlined espionage interface allow for more efficient management.
- This is nice. Makes playing simpler, easier, and FASTER!

* New opening cinematic and combat animations bring your Civilization world to life like never before.
- I like the combat animations, but they are really not THAT spectacular.

Summary: Civ3 Expansion is going to be great!
Review: First of all, why give the game 1 star, even if the reviewer before you doesn't know what he/she is talking about. The expansion will probably be worthwhile, and if you think it is not worth it to pay for the game twice, give them some credit. It's a great marketing idea. And immagine how fun Civ2 was online. Civ3 will be a blast online!

I heard from numerous rumors on message boards that there will be a few extra countries to play as in the expansion, such as Spain and Portugal. But the gleaming gold from this package is the multiplayer. Connecting to Infrogames's servers, and playing Civ3 against other real life players will be the main reason to get this game. If you have ever wanted to challenge your skills against other Civ fanatics in a user friendly world, then you should definately put this game into your wish list for the holdiays.

Summary: Very Fun Game...
Review: The Civilization series have been extremely fun and well made so far, although the game is not officially out yet, much has been revealed about it and it is not difficult to give it a rating.

Also...

"I find it really annoying that a standard feature in virtually every new game these days (multiplayer over the Internet) is released as an Expansion Pack"

What this person finds "annoying" about HOW the game was/is being released has absolutely nothing to do with the product's qualtiy which he/she is writing about! Speaking of trends, there seem to be many people rating irrelevant things in their reviews instead of the actual product.
