Summary: disappointing
Review: A longtime Alpha Centauri addict, I finally decided to try a new strategy game and, after a lot of research, settled on B & W. I spent a lot of hours playing this game and never really getting anywhere. At this point, whenever I have a spare hour, playing B & W is the last thing I want to do with it.
First, the graphics are really amazingly poor. I've got an Athlon 1.4 with 512 RAM, so I know it's not my system. Most of the ground is composed of nondescript brown smears, and the very cartoonish characters are made up of bitmaps stretched across really simple 3D forms. Secondly, the play is slow and uninspiring, with an awful lot of searching for lost items and moving things from one spot to another. Then there is navigating with the mouse; the game has a very innovative mechanism for allowing the player to move around in the game, but it falls far short of its potential--I spent an awful lot of time either dangling miles above my village or with my face pressed helplessly against a rock wall.
On the other hand, I bought the game because I thought it sounded like it had the potential to be a lot of fun--and I still do. I'm looking forward to a second installment, if there is one. Maybe they'll work out the kinks and the game will become what it should have been to begin with.

Summary: Great Game... But some flaws...
Review: The game it self is great, the only problem that everyone has is that the game gets repetative after a while and makes you wanna break it. hahaha! Well I wouldn't buy it but just borrow it from a friend and you should get enough use out of it. or buy it and sell it to a friend. YEAH! Good Luck!

Summary: A disappointment
Review: The game Black and White has some good ideas, such as being God and being able to control what was going on, but it did not meet up to the expectations. I find it really difficult to get the hang of the mouse controls, and at times it is extremely frustrating. I agree with one of the other comments made, you are following a story. You never are really in control! I find this game disappointing and I suggest looking else where for a game in which you want control.

Summary: Very good game
Review: I recently played this game at my friends house and enjoyed it a lot because the gameplay is so uniqe and well, somthing different.Well, anyway, you play the role of a god that rules over an island. You are represented by a hand that moves the camera around and picks things up. After, you go through a rather boring toutorial, and once you get into the game you get a creature who represents you. The creature is either a tiger, a cow, or a monkey. Raising and waching your creature become either a giant monstrosity or a kind and gentle beast is one of the best parts of the game! The creature has its own personality and can be good or evil, it depends on how you raise it. Taking care of the villagers is the most annoying part of the game because they cant take care of themselves so, taking care of a creature and a villige of idiots can be rather chalenging but once you get the hang of the controols and how to manage the town it becomes easy. Overall, the AI is excelent considering the creature can learn.

Summary: I am sure this game is fun but...
Review: Ok, I read the reviews here and on game sites for this game. It sounds like fun, but my god could it be any harder to play? I gave up on this game due to its overly hard to use interface and overly annoying tutorial!

I am they type of gamer that likes to get to the action not watch 20 minutes of video about the game. Of course the first time I ran the game it crashed luckly I am running Windows XP so I didn't need to reboot.

To do simple things in this game it takes great skill and the learning curve is a pain. Having to remember where eveything is, becuase damned if I can fine a small map to show important things like Age of Empires has.

The concept of the game is really cool, however attempting to play it well that is another story all together.

Summary: All flash, no real substance.
Review: I heard a lot of hype about this game and was excited when I finally purchased it. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. It's entertaining for a while, but that soon wears off as you're led by the nose through pointless, ridiculous tasks no god would put up with. Why should I as a god have to find some woman's sick brother before she'll give me a rock*? Why should I have to get that rock anyway? Oh wait...to get to the creature.

The creature is, by far, the most annoying thing. I don't want have to have a pet for a god game (and there's no way to run Creature-free). Least of all do I want a pet that I have to constantly monitor, else he'll forget to eat and sleep and thus die repeatedly--or begin doing things he's not supposed to do. No matter how many times I've punished my creature for eating a villager, he still goes off and eats them. Beat him every time he does it, he'll still do it.

Which leads me to my next problem with this game. It's pretty disturbing once you realize what you're doing--the game encourages you to slap around (rather violently at times) an anthropomorphized cow/monkey/tiger/etc. (and if you do it hard enough, bruises and scars appear on the creature). I'm not normally one to be taken aback by violence in a game (it's just a game, after all) but the level at which this encourages you to abuse your pet (all in the name of "teaching" it) is worrying.

Overall, I was bored within a couple days. The spiffiness of the graphics and effects soon wears off and all you're left with is a rather annoying and linear game which leaves you few true options but to plod step-by-step through the insipid tasks they have planned for you.

[* yes, you can destroy her house and take the but the point is you should never have to deal with such idiotic issues in the first place. This is billed as a God game, not a see-how-many-hoops-we-can-make-you-jump-through-to-get-to-the-next-hoop game.]

Summary: Black & White
Review: I was looking forward to Black & White when it was on the 'Coming Soon' list. I noticed that
1. You can play as God
2. You can have creatures
3. You can name your creatures
and
4. You can batlle using creatures
It seemed that I knew this game already...
I bought it... and then... I liked it!
I thought my friends would like it, and they said it has cool graphics, creatures (I KNOW THAT!!!), and much more!
So, I reviewed it 94 TIMES, and came up with a review... my 1st review, for Black & White...
I thought 94 times of completing the game was a high amount...
This is all I could think of...

Summary: B&W one of the best stratagey games on the pc
Review: I dont't care what all you other people say this game is just fine. sure the controls are a little messed up but i'm fine with that. I figure that the controls and how the enemy god put's up the sheild are the only downside. Overall this game is pretty good.

Summary: CCGR.ORG's review
Review: In this game you are a deity. You can be good or evil (hence the title Black & White). You also get a creature/titan to help you out. You are to convert villagers through love or fear and establish your reign against other gods. Not only do you have to maintain your worshippers but you also have to raise your creature to do your will. This takes a lot of time and skill. It actually pays to be a good deity. Wood is a hard resource to acquire quickly, so be careful when destroying villages, they are hard to rebuild.
From a Christian perspective this game is a little new agey. The game starts off saying in a land of innocence a god is not needed and they are created by praying to one. There are also some references to the ying/yang. Another thing I found it awkward having the villagers worship me. One thing I must admit, I have been convicted not to play this game anymore. I was uncomfortable with the idea of villagers making sacrifices to gods including the one you portray. The last thing to consider would be violence if you are a bad deity.

The game play is real fun. This game took three years to make, so my expectations were high. The graphics are beautiful. The sounds are good. The controls are a little tricky and takes some getting used to. You can multiplay this game and even play online. On the downside, there are some bugs in the game. There is a patch out though. Hopefully that fixed them. From a Christian standpoint, don't play this if you are uncomfortable being treated like a god.
