Summary: DOES work on Windows XP
Review: Don't listen to the people that say that Black & White doesn't work on windows XP. I don't know what they are smoking but it works better than ever on my XP. There must be another reason that it didn't work for them like not enough memory, or wrong accelerator card. There are lots of other explanations for this problem. I think this game is one of the most original PC games and defiantly one of the most fun. Yes, it can be frustrating and hard at times but not everything is made for the minds of today.

Summary: Time-consuming, but fun.
Review: This game can be fun if you are willing to sit down and dedicate all of your spare time to it. I spend all day at work, hence I have not advanced very far into the game!

The game gets off to a slow start as the "consciences" teach you how to play the game (how to use the hand, how to train your creature, how to cast miracles, etc.). It's pretty self explanatory, yet they make you try out everything just to make sure you know how. The consciences are always popping up trying to tell you *something,* and sometimes you just wish they would go away.

I love this game's sense of humor. For instance, for one of the "silver story scrolls" you must bring some would-be sailors supplies. Bringing a sheep for meat prompts the lead sailor to say, "Oh, a sheep. Very lovely. Good for a long journey!"

I have no problem "micro-managing" the villagers - in fact, it is kind of fun decide who will be farmers and who will be "breeders." I also think it's fun that you can plant trees wherever you want, and break large rocks with ease.

The "Creature" is another story, however. Keeping track of the creature in one village is do-able if you have the animal on a leash. But when you must travel across the land (including large mountains), bringing the creature with you proves to be difficult. And when your creature gets injured, it's scary! My cow got struck by lightning, and I was so disturbed that I shut the game off! It's not gory or disgusting, but it's just not fun to watch your precious creature writhe in pain on the ground.

At this point I have not gotten very far in the story line, but I do enjoy the game so far. The format definitely takes a lot of patience to get used to, but I think once you do, it will be rewarding to watch your influence grow!

Summary: not for me
Review: i agree with some of the more negative critiques here. i bought this game based on the hype and reviews at the time of release. although it didnt look like something i would normally enjoy, and i didnt, i found the game cumbersome, i didnt like the games control system, and it was all a bit twee and boring. the concept left me cold to be honest, just goes to show dont believe the hype. an expensive waste of a very few hours.

Summary: Black and White
Review: I bought black and white recently and I don't know why so many people give it a bad rap. A lot of people say it doesn't work but I guess that's true if your computer is from the stone age and you have no smarts about computers what so ever. This is game is a new idea in it self because no game has even come close to this. The idea of being god has been seen before;the rts idea has also been implamented in this game. Mixing the god, rts and having a creature makes this game so great. The creature part has amazing AI and its almost as if your creature is a living breating pet thats eats people sometimes...heh heh. The only drawback is the constant micro management if you're evil or for a long time until your creature learns to help if your good. All in all I advise everyone to buy this game unless they have a horrible computer or have no knowledge about computers.

Summary: There is only one God.......
Review: This game is really boring. The gameplay is superslow and there are many glitches in the software. Its also pretty blasphamus. There is only one God, and we are not him, his name is Jesus Christ. If I could give it no stars, believe me I would.

Summary: Dreck
Review: There is one thing for which I can be thankful: it was relatively inexpensive. Perhaps this was a promising concept but it has been executed with such cloying banality and patronizing intrusiveness that I was frankly unable to make it all the way through the endless and insufferably irritating tutorial, let alone play the game. Or perhaps that was the game, for there is no exit from this tyrannical series of overlong and back-to-back cut scenes. Indeed, if you want to play the game at all, you must take the tutuorial. As for the much vaunted graphics, I found them muddy, uninspired, simpleminded, and just plain ugly. The buildings are largely dreary brown affairs and the inhabitants appear to have been carved from balsa wood and dipped in flour. The interior of the temple was reminiscent of a Chuck E. Cheese and the so-called "creatures" borrowed from cereal boxes. The two "advisors" (I particularly disliked these pompous little nits) were cribbed from an old Donald Duck cartoon and the little devil sounded for all the world like Fred Flintstone. As mentioned many times in these reviews, the movement controls are awkward and unintuitive and often simply don't work. I recommend reading the rest of the many negative reviews here; I didn't come across one complaint in the lot that I would not heartily echo. It seems that I am obliged to award this game at least one star but that's the only reason it's getting one. After an hour and a half struggling with this miscarriage, I had a roaring headache and wanted only to train my creature to hunt down Peter Molyneux and have him for lunch.

Summary: A great concept...
Review: Black and White was a really great game, conceptually. You take the throne of a God and are given a creature as your physical embodiment. You are then charrged with taking care of a village of people, and later in the game, must take control of other villages with the use of impression. By gaining new villages you lessen the power of your rial gods. Easier said than done. I first played BW on my 333 MHz computer. It ran slower than molasses. Then I got a new 2.26 GHz comp. and it ran like the wind. Becuase of the speedy upgrade I was actually able to finish the game which is no small feet. The game has this wonderful good/evil recognition system. it takes your actions and alters your temple to reflect your goodness or evilness. Too bad being evil is about the only option you have. Your peopel have these insanely high demands, and if they're not met, they think you're evil. It's not my fault you cut down EVERY TREE ON THE ISLAND AND I CAN'T GIVE YOU MORE WOOD! And they won
t stop complaining. At first you feel bad about being evil, but after a while you start to purposly set your peopel on fire just to show them how evil you can be. Buy this game for it's sheer novelty. After a while it can get repetitive, frustrating, and down right boring. If the village managment was easier, I would give this game 5 stars.

Summary: Doesn't Work on Windows XP
Review: I got so excited after hearing rave reviews about Black and White. I washed a few cars to get the money to buy the game, and on the day I bought it, I was saddened when the game didn't work! It installed properly, but after the startup screen, the whole computer screen went white! I could still hear the music in the background, but nothing else worked. I went online to try and find a remedy to my problem, and I learned that Black and White doesn't work on the Windows XP home edition. So I took it back. I'm just so disappointed. I'm sure it's a good game, but I may never find out.
