Summary: Poor planning makes this program difficult to use
Review: I bought this game, but have been unable to use it, although my PC meets ands exceeds the minimum system requirements listed on the box. (I'm a professional computer support staffer) Support from Lionhead has been non-existant. I Can't recommend it.

Summary: A Typical Electronic Arts Pile o Crud
Review: While graphically a very appealing game, it was forced out the door way too early by Electronic Arts in what has become their modus operandi.

There any many issues with this game, the most unacceptable of which are the presence of bugs which do not allow you to finish the game. Also occasionally, the game crashes. Basically, it is a late beta, not a release version.

Most companies would've released a couple of patches by now to deal with their customer's issues - but not Lionhead and EA. In the two months since release there have been ZERO gameplay/bug patches, with every promised date for a patch's release missed with excuses ranging from key personnel at E3 to waiting for quality control signoff from Electronic Arts.

Quality Control from EA. Now, that's funny.

Summary: A game that's as hard or as easy as you want it to be.
Review: The game is great. Many people are experiencing a lot of bugs and crashes, but for me it has run perfectly. I won't go into much detail, I will only say this: Black & White can be whatever you want it to be. It can be a fast-paced game with a lot of micromanagement, or it can be a "sit back and enjoy the view" type of game. The choice is yours. And if you ever wondered if you have an "evil" side that nobody has ever seen, this game will give you the chance to discover it and put it to use.

Now for the bad parts. Lionhead and EA have not communicated well with their fans. Two times now we were told a patch would be released and it wasn't. Both LH and EA have been very unprofesional on this matter and have lost quite a few fans over it. All I can say is that if you buy this game be prepared that it might be very buggy for you and you might have to wait for the patch to be released (if it ever is) before you can really enjoy Black & White.

Summary: You should do the same.
Review: I bent over for Lionhead by buying this extremly buggy (P)iece(O)f(S)oftware, and they won't bend over for me by announcing an ACTUAL date for a patch. These guys don't know how to deal with their customers at all. Don't bother releasing B&W2 Peter, it will flop with the way you've handled your customers the first time around. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

Summary: Too Buggy to Play
Review: I'm sorry, but this is one of the buggiest games ever! I can't even play the game! I've been waiting for the patch for some time now, but guess what, it keeps being DELAYED! Game Over!

Summary: It had a good start, then fell flat
Review: I guess I can understand why this game was rated so high by the "professional" game reviewers you read on websites and game magazines. I doubt they have the time to play the game very long before they have to write a review for it. For the first 10 or so hours I played Black and White I thought it was great. Then I started running into all the many problems that have been discussed in other reviews here. The final straw was the "save game bug" which effectively makes it impossible to continue playing the game. You see, this bug crashes the game whenever you try to save it. And when you finish a land and go to move to the next one the game tries to save automatically. No problem I thought, I'll just get the patch. Turns out there still is no patch out for this game as of May 31, 2001. With the number of serious bugs this game shipped with it is inexcusable for the company that claims to take customer support seriously to not have a patch out after this long. This game was a long way from being finished or properly tested when it was released.

The thing that makes the situation even worse as that the game has some flaws at its core that make it just lack any enjoyment after you play it for awhile. I typically like micro-management type games. But Black and White takes this to new depths. And the "incredible AI" that was touted turns out to not be that incredible after all when you really dig into the game. The enemy gods you battle don't follow the rules at that you are playing under at all for one thing. Incredible AI? No, just cheating AI!

In summary: 1. It's a pretty game with nice graphics. 2. It's got good sounds and the voices are well done. 3. The game is one of the buggiest games I've played in years. 4. The game was incomplete, missing features that were supposed to be there. 5. The tedium factor becomes overwhelming after about 10 or 20 hours of play. These means the replay value is about nil.

Summary: Just Black No White...
Review: I'll make this short but sweet. In short, this game is awesome, or would be .....in another dimension where the publishers actually left out all the bugs and actually delivered a working PATCH within a reasonable time frame.

Summary: Frustrated beyond belief
Review: I really enjoyed this game, what little I got to play of it. This game has some very serious bugs that prevented me from progressing in the game past level 3. Once I got to the third level, my game started crashing everytime I tried to save. This is a known problem with the game and the worst part is Lionhead/EA support. They waited 2 months to say there was a patch on the way and then twice failed to post the patch on the promised date. It has been more than 2 months now since the release and they still haven't release the patch, and without the patch I can't even play the game I paid fifty bucks for! What a waste...
