Summary: Awesome Game ---- READ THIS REVIEW!!!
Review: Listen... This game is reallllly good. It is bug infested, granted, but the developers patch was released a few days ago that seems to help. Many of the bugs associated with game problems were just ignorance on the part of the player (i.e. running a windows 9x driver on a windows ME system... it doesn't work too well...), but some are not... these were fixed in the patch. Plus, most of the things people hate are fixable ... The motion controls are another thing... if you listen to the tutorial, it provides several methods of motion to alter your viewpoint, including using the keyboard. The game itself, when not running rough, is simply fantastic. The graphics are phenomonal, and the creature AI is the most advanced i have ever seen (the creature learns, but only within a set range of actions... of course, there are millions of actions, judging by the exact motion and target of the action). The creature is beautifully rendered and animated, and even leaves footprints. There are 18 creatures in the game, although some are very difficult to attain. The creature can be swapped and retain full personality. All together, this is a great game and i heartily, without hesitation give it five stars. If you want a good time (and have plenty of free time) buy this game.

Summary: Breathtaking and immersive...
Review: ...for at least two hours. I'm not going to beat a dead horse by repeating the multitude of complaints found...oh, wait...yes I am.

Black and White is not a completely terrible game. Its just not a very good one. The length of time Lionhead Studios spent in development and the intense hype surrounding the game act as salt in the wound once you realize "there's no there there." The AI is not what was promised--how could it be, given the constraints of contemporary computer languages? The villagers who worship you, rather than acting as sentient beings, are basically passive objects that must be manipulated continuously lest they die or stand around uselessly. One would logically assume that the worshipers of a particular deity would gladly wage war on behalf of their god, capturing rival enclaves and bringing them to the faith via the sword (this is featured prominently in god games that predate B& W by years and years, ala "Populous" I and II.) But no, in B & W there is no intervillage conflict. New worshipers are acquired either by manually making your own villagers procreate (lol) or by impressing nonworshipers via miracles or your creature's antics. Speaking of which, the creature that is meant to be your avatar is for some reason not imbued with even rudimentary intelligence and must be potty trained and hand-fed like a baby goat; when it behaves well you pet it and when it disobeys you beat it like a mule. Later, you can use the game's spell system (which requires some of the most convoluted and counter-intuitive mouse movements I've ever made in a game) to teach your creature to cast miracles (spells). For all intents and purposes, however, the creature is basically an in-game pet that can be allowed to die or wander off without much loss to the minimal gameplay. If your that in need of companionship, save your hard-earned cash and pay a visit to the local humane society.

I haven't even touched upon the numerous bugs that plague this game. As of this date a patch is not yet released, though Lionhead Studios has reportedly began work on a new game sporting the same engine behind B & W. Absolutely disgraceful...

Summary: If you have a year to spend... do something else!
Review: This game takes a long time. A VERY long time. For example, each time you start a new game, you MUST go through a tutorial that if you speed through it will take you no less than 45 minutes. Teaching your pet will take longer and your pet will at any given moment learn a trick that you had no intention of it learning. If you were to have two games, one for a good pet and one for a bad one. IT would take you two hours at least of straight playing to get to the 2nd level. I commend the advanced AI and the incredible graphics, but the unbearably tedious gameplay makes this game [not worth the money], as soon as you decide that the time it takes to play the game is not worth the effort.

Summary: Bad
Review: It's not a terrible game, but the micromanagement can make you want to smash the computer. It took 90% of my game time just to satisify those stupid villagers. Getting wood/food, putting wood in workshop, building tons of houses even though there's no need,.... It's very buggy also. I was expecting alot more. Don't trust those reviews from magazines...

Summary: Not the best... but a differnt sort of challange
Review: Everyone gives this game a bad write up. You give it such a rateing because YOU can't handle the different challenges through the game. One of these challanges is the controlls... they even state that specificly. This game was designed to be something you could play seriously, or not. You have to admit, trashing your town with fire and lightning and setting your pet loose to eat everyone can be quite stress releiving. Warning to any potential buyers... do NOT buy this game unless you have patience and problem solving skills. This is NOT a fast action game, this is a thinkers game. I recomend it to anyone who is looking for a solid "puzzle" style game. This again isn't the best, but it is deffinitly a good game.

Summary: Gonna buy this game? -Disgruntled Worshiper-
Review: It's up to you. Neither I nor any of the other hardcore gamers that have written bad reviews can change the fact you are about to waste your money. So go ahead and believe all those people who rave over this game. They call it "astounding", "revolutionary" and "must see to believe". Apparently all these people are all on crack. Oh by the way....... be sure to purchase "The Sims Online" when it comes out, and have fun spending 10$ a month just to play it.

Summary: Misguided effort results in tedious gameplay
Review: I really wanted to like this game, having heard much of the hype from some time out before release. However, when I got it up on my PC, I was amazed at how trivial, silly, clumsy and arbitrary it all seemed. Sure the graphics are good and it's clear that many programmer-hours were burnt in bringing this to market but why didn't they think through the game-play a little before spending all that money on this nonsense? What a waste!Unfortunately I feel that this is aimed at juvenile/compulsive types who want to spend all day "stroking" their creature and casting silly "spells". Anyway each to their own.

Don't believe the hype - leave this one on the shelf and if curiosity gets the better of you then buy it used (there'll be plenty around let me assure you). Don't reward the providers of this game by paying list price for it - it'll only encourage them to come out with more sub-standard products.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot - there are bugs which cause the game to crash - though in my case that was a blessing as I could use it as an excuse to finish with B&W and play something worthwhile like Unreal Tournament. Now, there's a game.....

Summary: Quite buggy
Review: Well, it's not a bad game. But it's very buggy.

Seriously, it's missing half the features and crashes a lot.

Summary: Bug infested
Review: From all the reviews that you get to read on this game, written by either Magazines or Web Sites,it would have to be the greatest game of all time, but don't be fooled. This must be some real great marketing department, as what you are getting for you money is a highly bug infested beta of two combined companies where customer support is on the very rock bottom of things-to-do-list. If you would like to save yourself worries and trouble (and money) wait about half a year then buy it for half prive and by then some patches should be available for this game.

Summary: Great idea but lying to customers
Review: This game was a nightmare. Only great graphics, but poor interface, too much tutorials before starting the game (every time you start a new game, you have to go through ALL the tutorial again), poor AI, computer cheatings (but you can’t), confusing tips and wrong hints given to the players, tones of bugs, and most of all, the producers, Lionhead and EA, are very, very irresponsible. When Lionhead promised to release a patch to fix some of the game bugs, it lied to all the customers at least THREE times in a row! The company keeps pushing the releasing deadlines for the patch. I personally have no such experiences before when I purchase other games. What kind of company will sell an “un-finish” product to the customers with high prices and lying to customers that they will “eventually” fix it!!! This producer of the game is absolutely ridiculous! It just wants to make a huge profile out of this game and keep lying to customers. If you are buying this game to please your children or friends or yourself, please think twice before buying. Do not buy this game just because the reviewers gave a 9.3/10 rating. Visit the official site and see how many customers are complaining about this game. This still in progress, unfinished game does not worth [....]!
