Summary: Osiris may be wrong on this one....
Review: I read Osiris' review about needing the 90MB patch, that is incorrect. That is a patch for the non-English game if people still want to here and see English language. Being from Canada, I guess he would need that. Sorry Osiris, but game companies expect that if you live in Canada and buy the game there, you will PROBABLY speak the local language, not the game's natural English. I admit that that is a huge patch, especially if you own a modem, but at least it was made available to you. I have yet to play the game, which is why I didn't rate it high. However, I ordered it a few days ago, and should get to play it around January. I will write another review about it then. I am fairly sure I will give it a high rating then.

Summary: Teach you about Parenting
Review: What's that? A game worthy of the 100 hour gameplay award could teach us something? In my opinion, yes. In this game, don't be fooled, you play God. A God with limitations, a temple and a creature. You are limited to influencing a given physical space according to how many people believe in you. Your temple shows whether you are good or bad. Your creature shows whether you are a good or bad parent.

Granted, if you play this thinking of it as "just a game" and find out all the strategies and tips that do all the "right things" so that you win, then the temple and creature might not reflect your personality as much. It will reflect the fact that you are a perfectionist, perhaps nothing more.

To say nothing of the graphics and effects would be next to criminal, but they are of little importance next to the importance this game is to the gaming community in general. The AI of the creature resembles a child when you start out, so realistic, it's hard to be patient with. The gesture system for casting spells is a leap into a new domain for RPG and RTS games. And, yes, the graphics are fairly good.

If you play to win, so be it, but if you play to learn about yourself, then you may find out how patient a parent you can be when your creature at age 25 is still eating dung of the floor.

Summary: Shallow Gameplay
Review: Black & White has to be the most overhyped game in recent memory. In a few words is just not fun. This game tries to appeal to all kinds of gamers and don't delivers in any of the areas that it tries to cover. This game is supposed to be a mix of Sim, Strategy, RPG and Creature training or wathever. But as a strategy game is to simplistic, there is no tech tree, no "startegy", the only thing yo do is take over other villages by casting the same miracles over and over. The Sim part of this game is also non-existent village management is basically about throwing trees in the village store and casting "Miracle Wood". The game goes like this "We want food", "We want children", "We need wood", etc. All this gets especially annoying after having to control more than one Village, wathever yo do they will never be pleased and Village Management takes away all the time that you need to explore or take care of your stupid creature. As an RPG it has quests that are imposible to complete because of being so vage or are totally mundane, on top of that completing the quests is totally unrewarding, so don't even bother. Also the story of the game is boring and predictable and does not maotivate you to complete the game, unlike games as Starcraft that have a rewarding and interesting storyline. Finally the only aspect of the game that is somewhat developed is the creature training, but taking care of your creture is a full time job and you just can't do it a the same time that you take care of your whining villagers, also as stated in previous posts your creature is too damn dumb, no matter how many times I taught her to EAT! by fishing, eating animals, getting food from the fields, etc., my creature kept dying from starvation. In conclusion this is an unchallenging "game", if you like Strategy, RPGs or Sims games you WON'T like this game. This game is aimed at people who like "babysitting" games, if you like games as Petz, Creatures or The Sims, give it a shot, if you don't, stay away from this game.

Summary: Great game but it's not happy with Windows XP
Review: The game is absorbing and keeps both myself and my kids (9 & 11) well occupied. Graphics are good but despite not being an "action" game the real hardware requirements seem quite high. Be wary of moving to Windows XP - B&W had run happily in multi-login Win ME but I've had a lot of problems trying to get it to run on a non-admin account in Win Xp pro; the game keeps on not seeing that it has already been installed and trying to reinstall itself. Got round this eventially by reinstalling the 1.10 patch for each user, which is not elegant but works. I shoudl say that several games (including MS ones!) suffer from related problems. But overall a good game which will last a long while on my HD

Summary: Crash and Burn
Review: Great concept, poor delivery. Once again it seems a game maker just can't seem to finish a game putting it on the market. Yo! Game maker, Test you code and them release the game. Don't unload some piece of junk that needs a mondo 90meg patch before it even begins to resemble a final product. If this game had been tested, debugged, and made playable before it was put on the shelf I probably would have given it 4 out of five. Sorry but black and white has struck out.
Cheers.

Summary: Black and White: One of the best games yet
Review: Black and White allows you to play as a god, and you rule through an animal, in the beginning it's a monkey, cow or tiger, and if you forfill certain challenges you can get other creatures, such as a sheep, for instance. The allows you to choose between beginning good or evil, which effects your followers as well as your creature.

Evil:
you rule through fear
your creature looks reallllllllyyyyyy cool

Good:
you rule through the people's will(they trust you and aren't terrorized by you)

your creature stays normal, but is a bit stronger than evil creatures

There are also some pros and cons I'd like to tell you about;

PROS:
Great Plot

Awesome Graphics

Amusing and Cool-looking creatures

Fun Challenges along with awesome rewards

An auto-save feature

The fact that you can choose what happens next

fun side games in the God's something( I forget, but you can bowl in a certain part!!!)

your creature can learn miracles to help your people, and to give it the upper-hand in battles or against rival communities.
CONS:
It's kind of hard to move around in the
beginning, takes a while to master the controls

If you do something wrong in the beginning or during a challenge, or make a bad choice, it could be harder for you in the future, or you could end up messing things up for you, your allies, your creature, and your people

It is very time consuming, but sometimes it's worth the time you put into it.

If you are not prepared or follow directions, your people can get screwed up badly.

If you don't have a steady supply of wood and rations, your people might leave you, or starve.

This is a great game. You definietly should by it. Thank you for reading my review.

Summary: WHAT!? A mere 3 star average rating?
Review: Sheesh! Black and White is a great game, deserving much more than an average of 3 stars. I got this really excellent new computer, so of course I needed to begin filling the hard drive with games. I went to the store and was confronted with a huga array of them, and out of all of them I chose Black and White.
First of all, the graphics are truly amazing. You can zoom out to the edge of space, and close enough to see a worm wriggling in an apple. Truly amazing.
Next, the gameplay is superb. Truly immersive and new, not just the boring shoot em up, or build, gather resources, destroy, and "ooh look, ANOTHER side quest to explore!" The creatures are a whole work of art themselves! It brings a whole new meaning to Artificial Intelligence...
So, you still don't believe me? Well, please read PC Gamer, or go to ..., and find out for yourself that I am in fact right about Black and White.

Summary: Great idea, great hype, but it crashed and burned.
Review: Intially when I tried out "Black & White" I began to tingle with excitement, this looked like it was going to be one hell of an addictive game. And true this game is very addictive, for the first few days that is. When you begin this game everything looks to be in place, great graphics, pretty easy to use controls and the gameplay looks to be promising. After just a short time later this game slams head first into the ground, and does not recover. Why is this you may ask, well to be honest this whole game consists of you doing the same thing over and over, except it increases how much you have to do to make it seem difficult than the previous time. It's a real shame too, this games originality is unsurpassed, because while many other games have the god aspect to a certain extent, none of them present it the way "Black & White" does. But do not give up all hope as of yet, some people do enjoy this game to it's fullest, so make sure you try it before you buy it, because you may end up loving it. The reason I gave "Black & White" 3 stars is because of how original it is, its graphics, and I even did enjoy this game for a very brief period of time.
