Summary: i think its fine i mean no game is perfect
Review: now i have been playing star trek games since i can remeber and have always watched the SFC series grow in games and of course the first was a classic the second was a upgrade but they never got out of captain kirks era in the games wich was fine but i always thought how cool it would be to fly the current ships and SFC3 was born its perfect because its the events leading up to the newst movie star trek:nemisis and filled up to it nicely you now can even download a activision add-on that has a mission where you fly shinzon's scriminator the warship from the movie i think its great and well worth your money in so many ways....

Summary: Might be good, but beware!
Review: Somthing they do not -ever- state in the manual or the box (read both, cover - to - cover, is that you MUST have Microsoft Game Voice in order to use this. Which requires an ADDITIONAL [$$] purchase. If you have it to spare, go ahead for the thrill of commanding a starship with your voice. Otherwise, I most heartily reccomend Star Trek: Starfleet Command II: Empires at War.

Summary: First class simulator
Review: While not perfect it is a good simulator with lots of things to do in battle. Admittedly, sometimes I feel there is too many things to play with in the game, and in the midst of battle there is so much to think about. Makes one wonder how Kirk or Picard did it.

Anyway if you like Trek this is one game you should get.

Summary: Great game for all ST:TNG fans
Review: Star Trek Bridge Commander is a great game and its unique "on the bridge" feeling makes it a great game for all trekers, but the fun dosen't last too long. It's a great game to come back to after not playing it for 5 months but that does not mean that I regret buying it. Graphically Bridge Commander is great, the ships practically flew out of the show and the phasers ant torpedoes look fantastic, however "For every good, there is evil" (see Star Trek: Nemesis). The lip syncing is the worst in history. There mouths move in a set pattern no matter what there saying making it look like a horribly badly dubbed Godzilla movie, but if you dont care about lip syncing, then GET THIS GAME!

Summary: Good, despite the cons
Review: Lots of people say that this game is buggy, ...blah blah. SO you have to get a patch. Big deal. So it's 30 megs, big deal. I don't see people knocking around Half-life, because their patch is 80 megs. Also, the bugs aren't that bad. I played the game without a patch for 6 months, and it was fine. It would have a few bugs here and there, but not as bad as the above review. To the review that said it always crashed: Maybe it crashed so often because your computer can't handle it. We all know system req's are just enough for the game to even consider loading, and you should always exceed those requirements. Also, my friend can run that game on his PII 250 MhZ, so don't complain. This game provides nice immersion into the campaign, and the ship variants alone are just cool (1000+). There are 8 races too choose from, and 10+ campaigns. It could be better, but it's the only game of its type, so don't complain, because its all you'll get. StarFleet Command III is good too, but its dumbed down a lot, and isn't as in depth. Also, the races are limited on SFC3, so you should get both. This game is still nicely done, and the immersion into the Star Trek universe is definitely there, despite the bugs. For you dial-up people out there, just ask someone with broadband and a CD-RW to burn you the patch, it's no big deal!

Summary: THE BEST ON THE BLOCK!!!!
Review: I'm a diehard Trekkei and decided to get out of the orig. and into the next Gen., and MAN YOU GOT TO GET THIS BABY! I'm hooked and not moving an inch away from this one, thought the price is a bit high, but, it's STAR TREK!

Summary: Buggy, dumbed-down entry in the series
Review: How could they take so much out of this franchise and still leave so many bugs behind? The sound effects are no better than in prior versions - in fact, they're often worse. The graphics are only marginally improved (and some - like ship explosions - are vastly inferior here). The game has been moved into the TNG era, but we're down to only 4 playable races and just a dull handful of weapon types to utilize (and deal with). The interface has been "simplified" a bit, but so has the gameplay and many of the tactical elements that made the first two titles in the series interesting. A move has been made away from the turn-based Starfleet Battles boardgame ruleset, which is not necessarily a bad thing from a realism standpoint, but unfortunately the game hasn't moved far enough from those constraints to justify all of the depth that's been lost.

Everything they needed to concentrate on improving in this franchise was apparently ignored. The AI is now impossibly stupid. In fact, it still seems to be fighting as though it were living in the Starfleet Command 1 / Starfleet Command 2 game universe, utilizing tactics that get it killed even faster here in SFC3 than it did in its predecessors. There's nothing more fun than watching your AI subordinates crash their huge starship into an asteroid because they're too dumb to avoid it. Maybe they borrowed their control routines from the flying saucers in Atari's classic 1979 arcade game Asteroids . . .

Actually, there is something more fun than watching your wingmen slam into stuff - having them blow up for no apparent reason when something else onscreen is destroyed. Yes, the game apparently gets AI controlled objects confused. Poor dear. Must be getting senile in its old age. And that's just one of MANY bugs folks are encountering / reporting, including numerous crashes to the desktop and problems with the online multiplayer Dynaverse servers.

Taldren, the developer, has been pretty good about producing patches for prior titles, so it's possible many of these bugs will be resolved at some point. Still, I wouldn't advise dropping $$$ to be a paying beta tester in a game that's plagued by some fundamental design flaws and an overall lack of depth to begin with. If you're interested in this title, I'd recommend you monitor any websites devoted to the Starfleet Command series and wait for those bug-fixing patches to be released, first. Once patched, the game will no longer be such a frustrating experience. Only a somewhat disappointing one.

It's also possible the gaming community will come to the rescue. Taldren has promised that this game will be one of the easiest for folks to produce mods for - homespun enhancements like new missions or ship types. If that pans out, it could make SFC3 a much more appealing title. However, by the time that happens, it's also likely to be a much cheaper title.

Summary: A pale shadow of the earlier titles
Review: If you played and loved any of the earlier games, you might consider staying away from this one. Its too dumbed down. If you're new to the Starfleet Command series, give it a try.

The graphics are nice, and the combat is fun, but the game is buggy, and the combat rapidly begins to take on a "sameness" that will have you shelving the game within a month of hard playing.

Its an interesting diversion for a while, but not a keeper.
