Summary: Shiny is the one to go with
Review: I usually make an effort to buy games Shiny is involved with, and Sacrifice, like their others, was no let-down. Shiny puts their all into producing terrific graphics for each of their games, but are always certain to make sure gameplay is unique and engaging, as well as featuring unique stories and characters.

Sacrifice is all of this, and perhaps a bit more. Unfortunately, for those who aren't willing to tinker with their machine's settings or expect a one-shot, out-of-the-box playable game Sacrifice could, depending on your system, give you a few headaches. Don't worry too much if your machine is slow: just adjust graphics options to make things a bit speedier. The problem will come in depending on what kind of system setup you have. Check with Interplay's website about whether your card has been tested with Sacrifice to make sure things will work OK, and if they won't what you have to do to fix them. Giving gamers more for their money is something Shiny (and Interplay, for that matter) are very good at doing, but this time they seem to have sacrificed (sorry) a bit in the way of compatibility. Future patches will hopefully provide remedies.

If you want a truely entertaining, not to mention challenging, experience, Sacrifice will be a game you can bet will sap you of valuable time and energy, but not leave you dissatisfied.

Summary: Pretty good
Review: I've had the game for about half an hour, and I can already tell this is going to be one of my favourites. How to describe it... imagine crossing Dungeon Keeper and Starcraft, then giving it a 3d interface that shames most other games. The graphics are wonderful, and they even look good on my now outdated Voodoo 2. I can't wait until I get my christmas bonus and can see what they look like with a Geforce Ultra. The storyline is quite imaginitive, the characters are funny (though I didn't know Stratos was Tim Curry at first), the sound is great. The gameplay takes a little work to get into the flow of, but the tutorials really help. My only problem so far is that the user interface leaves a bit to be desired. Spellcasting is ok, but not very speedy (I'm sure I haven't found the quick keys yet), and it's often hard to select your minions, but other than that, this game gets my full recommendation.

Summary: Prepare to sacrifice much of your time....
Review: This is an absolutely fantastic game! It has revolutionized the real-time strategy genre for the following reasons: 1. you are represented by an avatar, who wields powerful spells, allowing you to directly influence the battle 2. the units are unique from one another, both visually and functionally 3. the graphics are excellent 4. the dialouge features wit, and the storyline was made with much thought 5. an impressive multi-player game Obviously, much time has gone into the creation of this product. The single reason why I haven't given sacrifice 5 stars is that the requirements exceed the current average: games shouldn't be created for the meager few, but for the majority. And this game should be accessed by the majority!

Summary: Complicated, but highly engaging
Review: Be warned, this game is not easy. Sacrifice is an immensely complicated RTS that is also incredibly rewarding. Expect to spend several hours getting a handle on the user interface (you will not succeed until you bind your own hotkeys.) Once you so come to grips with the UI, you will realize that this game is not about total strategic control, rather it is about managing the flow of the natural action. You must think and act quickly, not methodically.

Once you get past the rather steep learning curve, this game has a very large payload to offer. The single player campaign is exceptionally well done; you are allowed to ally with different gads as the game progresses. The choices you make affect both plot development and the magical development of your wizard. The re is a subtle alignment system that allows you to get comfortable with several gods before choosing a power to focus on (I reccommend staying with 1 or 2 gods for the first time through.) Replay value is also very high due to this system, each time you play, you can tell a different story.

Sacrifice is perhaps one of the most visually stunning pc games to come out this year, but comes at the cost of high-end requirements. This game is not designed for a run-of-the-mill PC. Much of the magic of this game is in the small details. Every creature has a wide array of personality traits, and there are really no two similar units anywhere in the game. This means playing well means knowing the creatures you ar e fighting.

Overall this game offers a visual feast, and delightfull complexity, but it is tailored towards a pretty hard-core gamer. Improvements could be made to both the unit selection models, and unit spacing to avoid battlefield clutter, but these are minor flaws. If you are (hotkeys) willing to (hotkeys) set up and learn a system (hotkeys) that works for you (hotkeys,) then this game may indeed be (hot) one of the best titles (keys) availible this holiday season.

p.s. You should really set your own hotkeys.

Summary: Better than Homeworld?
Review: Finally an alternative for RTS fans. A true piece of original work rejuvenating the monotony of build and conquer. Although the basic elements of an RTS is here, graphics are unlike anything I've seen for a game and the gameplay is quite addictive.

Summary: Strategy at its best!
Review: This game is without a doubt the most original and beautiful game i have ever owned. If you like strategy games, that don't take 2 and 3 hours to play, this is the game for you. Mulitplay is also terrific. Very fast paced and action packed, you better be able to think on your feet. You have to buy this game! I haven't put it down since i bought it! This is an instant classic for sure.

Summary: Buy It
Review: This is the best game I have played for a long long time. Whether you like single player adventures or frenetic online battle this game is satisfying on both fronts. It does bust out of the genres - I have a friend who refused to play RTS style games (he's a UT fanatic) and now he can't put this one down. In fact, where did my CD go? Hey come back here with that!!
