Rating: Summary: EIDOS' unethical marketing. Don't fall for the Deus Ex Scam. Review: I read some reviews stating that Deus Ex was a great game. So I stopped at my local retail store to pick up a copy. The only copy they had was in a jewel case like one might expect to find shareware or other feature-limited garbage. But, it did not state anything to such effect on the packaging (most shareware titles do state that they are such somewhere, no matter how small the print). The fact that there was no boxed edition for sale at the store also suggested to me that this was the full edition as many games now come out in the sleeker packaging after they've enjoyed popularity in the bulky "look at me!" boxes. It seemed that it was obviously the full product when I looked at the upper corner where in bright bold letters it stated "special limited edition!" and even had a "limited edition numbering" on the back, like you would have on the back of a true limited edition item, such as a signed lithograph from a gallary. Sounded lame, but as long as it contained the game, they can pump it as a "limited edition" all they want. Only after wasting my cash and installing it at home did I see the "preview version" label on the top of the post-installation GUI. So then I did some research and found others had fallen into a similar scam with Deus Ex and EIDOS when they purchased the exact same product as me at othe retailers. It turns out that it's a limited edition alright. But, unlike the packaging very clearly promotes, it isn't the scarcity or uniqueness of the product that makes it limited. It's the product's functionality that is limited. If you want to get passed the first level, you'll have to dish out another $40 to buy the full version. I'm not sure about the majority of people, but if the company lied to me and took my money in one scam, how can I be assured they won't do the same (or something else very similar) with another product or stiff me when I think I'm buying the full version again? All I can do is urge everyone to avoid this game and this company like the plague. We complain about the strong-arm tactics of villains like Microsoft, but we overlook the completely lack of ethics and seemingly deceptively illegal marketing ploys of smaller companies. Spend your money on a better game from a better publisher.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Game- One of the Best Ever Review: I can safely say that the 50+ hours I spent with this game were some of the most enjoyable I've ever had in front of a computer screen. The thing that made me love it so much was how immersive it was. You feel as if you are JC Denton. You feel as if everyone is against you; and during the game you will feel betrayed, angry, confused, and happy. However, you don't feel this because you don't understand what you are supposed to do next, or because you solved a confusing puzzle that you thought you'd never figure out. You feel this way because that's what the character would feel. The game world is huge and believeable, and although some of the conspiracies are a little hard to believe, you will, just because the game presents them so convincingly. There are no complaints here with the games graphics. Sure, the Unreal engine is old and runs like a hog unless you have a 3DFX card (which most people don't), but as long as you have a decent PC and 3D card, you'll be fine. The game ran well at 800x600 with most details on my p3-450 and a geforce2 MX. The character models are kind of blocky, but the lighting and textures are well done. The game is hard, but not because it's full of abstract puzzles or huge, unwinnable battles. Whenever there is a difficult situation ahead of you, there is ALWAYS a variety of logical ways to get past it. For instance: In the first level, a comrade of yours is locked in a room, protected by laser tripwires and a locked door. If you go through the tripwires, the alarm will sound and guards will swarm around you; however, if you've invested time and money in building up your weapon skills and arsenal, you can take out the guards, then waltz in and bust your man out. If combat's not your thing, then you can hack into the laser controls with a multitool, deactivating the lasers. Then you can sneak up behind the enemy and use a riot prod or baton on them, knocking them out, and pick the lock on the door. Yet another way to get around this situation is to bypass the lasers entirely, find a ventilation shaft, sneak into the room where your friend is being held, hack into the computer, turn the sentry gun against the guards, and unlock the door from the security console. I'm sure there are other ways to get him out, too. Heck, you can just leave him there, too, if that's what you want; but he may hold a grudge. Everything affects everything else in this game, and you feel like you really are at the center of a huge web of lies, trying to make sense of the crazy world around you. The music is great, the voice acting decent, and the controls intuitive. This was definitly the game of the year last year, and I doubt it'll be surpassed in my book until Deus Ex 2 comes out. Get it, now.
Rating: Summary: One star, not that I got to play it...... Review: Now taking into account most people have a more sensible system than I do, I have to say that this is so far a very disappointing product. I have a new Sony with an AMD Athlon processor, 1 Ghz and 128 meg of ram. I may need to install a Voodoo card to play this game, and I just might do that. I have an SiS graphics card which does not handle the game well at all. On using software rendering, I get the best result: smooth and precise with no jerking and instant updating. However, after several seconds the game always locks up. This game also has the longest loading times of any game I have ever played. This is a shame because it looks very promising. Perhaps I will post an updated review if I ever get to play the sodding thing.
Rating: Summary: Lock And Load, Review: Deus Ex is EXCELLENT. It is the first of its kind where there are multiple ways of doing things especially at the end where you have the choice of ruling the world with a power crazed machine, destroy the worlds economy putting the world back to the stone age, stop the machine (daedalus) and rule the world along side the triads or letting bob page join with daedalus and ultimatly destroying the entire world. The gameplay is brilliant where one mission leads into another without it ending and you starting each new mission with full life and ammo in Deus Ex you have to survive and find the necessary things you need to get on with the mission. This is probably the best game i have bought and it did not get as much credit as it should have done.
Rating: Summary: Kick @$$!!!! Review: this is arguably the best game of all time. its gameplay is solid and packs a punch that will keep u rocking for hours. the story line is equal to or surpasses the depth of the likes final fantasy. the weapons are inovative as is other tools that are available to you. if nly one drawback in the game is the fact that the cinematic sequences lack a certain movie flavor as well as much length, aslo the different endings are all quite ubrubt, but no endings no gameplay is predictable. even with these few flaws in the game, its storyline, combat, and overall inovation make up for it.
Rating: Summary: DON'T BUY THIS GAME... Review: Don't buy this game unless you want to be absolutely absorbed and addicted. If you have a wife and family, I recommend you leave it to the bachelors. This spectacular game is so engrossing it's hard to stop playing. I've been up til 4 AM saying just one last stage before I go to bed. Listed as an RPG...I prefer to call it a First Person Perspective Shooter with a great plot. You are half man half synthoid...and you are the only one who can save the world. You travel to New York City, Hong Kong, and Paris in your search for the answer. You can chose different methods to play this game. You can go Rambo-style and take out all the enemies, or you can sneak in the dark shadows with very little enemy encounter. I chose a mix depending on my mood. If I was feeling like a postal worker, I made it a point to take out every enemy. If I wanted to experience a chill down my spine or two, I went the stealth-route. Both spectacularly fun. PC Gamer named this 2000 GAME OF THE YEAR...I call it the GAME OF ALL TIME.
Rating: Summary: The Best Since Half-life Review: Deus Ex. saw this game on the shelf of the videostore (of course) had never heard about it before( bought it cuz i liked the case). I think that this game is a revolution for future 3D shooting games. Now u can actually get thru an whole level without killing any1. before it was only running around and shooting 2 kill. but anyway i just had 2 write a little sumthing about this game cuz i just plain love this game. the first time i played it i sat for 17 hours. i just couldn` stop, always had 2 get a little further 2 see what would happen next, and i can tell u reading this that i had many surprises. this game has a bulletproof storyline, exellent music, a very cool main caracter and what i think is best is that the truth about his past unfolds a little. one2buy
Rating: Summary: Excellent and Addictive Game Review: DeusEx is one of the most exciting game I played this year. The Game presents a interesting history about conspiracy on the future. Because DeusEx use the Unreal engine, you will find great graphics even in Direct3D mode. I not recommend you play in OpenGL mode because I experimented texture loose and low graphics detail and quality. The game use your resources very well, even in my Duron 700MHz with a 32MB GeForce2 GTS and 256MB SDRAM the game load slowy. I played in medium level, and like others reviewers saw it, the enemies are not very intelligent, and some weapons are useful in some levels, with the posibility to advance without be detected by the enemy or if you like blood and shooting enter like Stallone and killing everybody. One of the cons of this game it's the limited space on the inventory, so in some levels or moments of the game you can't pick some items, wondering what item would be useful or unnecessary to dropped it or used it. But in general, This game is one of the best game you can buy right now, very addictive, more for a person like me, who played No One Live Forever before DeusEx.
Rating: Summary: my favorite shooter Review: not much new to say about this superlative game, but there are a few items. 1. enemies are only stupid on easy. on hard, one shot from that hidden sniper and youre dead. 2. the three conclusions diverge close enough to the end that a well placed save will allow you to do all of them. note however that they all require different equipment and separate well developed skills. 3. this game is a little tough to get into. the training session is a turn-off and so is the beginning of the first level. i did the statue of liberty three times, because each time i realized approaches and pointers that i missed and i had to go back to pick them up. its best to develop computer, lockpick, and multitool skills and sneak in the back way, but you still need the inventory hogging gep gun to get rid of those annoying robots if you want to maximize inventory and point count. once past the first level, i was totally drawn in and "wasted" weeks of free time. 4. the voice acting is not bad if you dont mind the flat staccato of dragnet or the untouchables (showing my age). 5. this game is a real memory pig. after a while the center point would begin to drift, requiring a restart. i increased my real memory to 256; all problems resolved. all my other games loaded much faster too. in summary, this certainly is the best shooting game ive done. im surprised it wasnt a particularly big seller. everyone needs to go out and immediately correct this injustice.
