Rating: Summary: One of the best games of all time Review: Deus Ex is one of those games that has become a legend, it has made history and it is more than deserving of the title "one of the best games of all time"The game takes place in the year 2053 in a world on the verge of collapse; a world where terrorists operate openly, where mega corperations use more and more overt means of crushing the competition, where life is more rugged. Little does anyone know that a secret group is intentionally causing the chaos in an effort to destabilize the power structures of the various countries on earth in order to take over the world. You play JC Denton, the second prototype for the next generation of super agent, augmented by nano technology, and JC works for UNATCO, a branch of the UN designed to fight terrorism. The game is full of plot twists and turns and nothing is as it seems. At one point Paul's brother admits he is working for the enemy, and shortly after, you find out the real enemy is a group called Majestic 12, which also controls the UN and UNATCO and you then join the resistance to fight the tyrannical organization and keep the world free. The game takes you to locales such as New York, Hong Kong, Paris, Vandenberg Air Force Base, a top secret labratory on the West Coast, on the ocean floor, and Area 51. gret efforts were taken to make the locations as authentic as possible. The game's immersiveness and story are unmatched, and the way the game allows you to complete mission objectives in any order and any way possible is truly revolutionary. This is one of those games that will become a classic in years to come and it is already legendary. The graphics are very good; most people consider it drab however the graphics were made with realism in mind and there are many scenic parts. The sound effects are also top notch, and the voice acting is very good: true that some of it was bad, but not all of it. The game play is very good and suprisingly easy to adapt to given its complexity. The AI is also good; true, a bad will not notice a dead body of a fallen comrade, or use advanced tactics against you, but it is very good for its time. The game was optimized for 3D FX Glide, however I had no problem rinnng it on a TNT2 in Direct 3D, and a patch came out which reduces the problem (although it does not completely fix it, you will still get much better framereates than before), and many modern systems, even low end modern systems will run it very good.
Rating: Summary: Cheat or Time on your hands? Review: First, I really enjoy this game and average about 2 hours per day because, like they say the game has a mind of its own. What I believe is that they game is set to reward stealth and non combat or sniping over a slashing offensive. Even a well conceived line of retreat is frequently thwarted by an inexplicable person with a one shot kill on you at 100 yds. Last night for example I could easily sneak by "Bots", but a "Lam" or high explosive granade at their feet had no effect. Also, a shotgun slug or "sabbot" to the head frequently doesn't kill. The most reliable arm in the game is a high tech sword from behind.(Kills everything but Bots} Another bad feature is you can spend hours to find the game's preferred route or look it up in a walkthrough cheat. Maybe some games are designed to sell books. I am currently cornered in a cathedral courtyard by 2 Bots and various others. TIP save your game after all tough encounters, then continue. Game's not all bad or all good, but all in all entertaining, like being in an action adventure series, or like a wild dream you can shut down at 2:00AM. I hope that the new game Deus-ex II will delete the programmer preferences and allow user selected game style choices. "oh, your're going to be macho? we'll fix you" should be deleted because it defeats even a well conceived attack in favor of hide and sneak. Example: I set of an alarm to draw out 4 guards to a proximity granade "LAM" it goes off killing one 3 attack me. Pick them off one by one with a sniper rifle, no attack. Oh well.
Rating: Summary: The best game ever !!! Review: This is my favorite game. It is a first person shooter with an excellent story line. There are countless ways to accomplish each mission and I have never seen another game that lets you interact with the games environment to the extent that this game does. I've heard others complain that the graphics weren't stunning, but I thought the graphics were quite good. I couldn't believe they could pack that much game on one cd. I was pleasently surprized when the levels kept commig and comming. When I finally finished the game it was such a letdown. I wanted more. Unfortunately, I am now compairing every game I play to deus ex and I haven't found any that come close. Buy this game while it's still availible!
Rating: Summary: A First Person Game of Substance Review: Somehow, unloading thousands of pounds of lead into the sneering faces of mindless demons never quite did it for me. Not to mention that I was always driven crazy by asinine puzzles that required the player to jump in a certain way to get that blue key that was just out of reach! Any plot or motive for the action was non-existent. For most of computer gaming history, this has been the template for the first person shooter. Games such as System Shock 2 tested the boundaries of this format and the Thief series made some huge breakthroughs. Deus Ex, however, was the final revolution in perhaps the most stale genre of computer gaming. They took something that was completely mindless and gave it substance. The plot is deep and engaging, the dialogue scenes are excellent, the soundtrack is heavily addictive, and of course the gameplay was greatly changed from Doom/Wolfenstein style. For one thing, ammo is actually somewhat scarce, especially for larger weapons. While your character can carry far more than anyone could ever fit under a trench coat, his inventory is limited. It is difficult to go through the game doing nothing but running into crowded rooms and firing plasma everywhere as the pitiful guards fight back with their pellet guns. The assault rifle, for example, runs through a clip very quickly and it takes awhile to reload. Even if you do manage to gun down two guys at close range before you run out, you will have taken plenty of damage before you're finished with them. Not too bad, right, but OOPS! the bad guys forgot to leave a dozen healing potions in the middle of the hall for your convenient consumption and because of all that racket the alarm was rung and reinforcements are on the way. In fact, you could have avoided the whole situation if you had gone into the air shafts, opened that grating on the cieling, and took care of them nice and easy with tranquilizer darts. That's right. You actually have to THINK in this game. There's often an easier way out that will allow you to save your resources and health for the next mission. Deus Ex easily ranks among the best games I've ever played. I've had few more engaging gaming experiences. You can even choose how the game will end! In the routine shooter, there are no choices, only trigger pulling.
Rating: Summary: A timeless classic Review: Deus Ex won game of the year so many times, its not even funny anymore. This game is several years old and is still ground-breaking in many ways. In fact, Deus Ex is by far better than many of the more modern First Person Shooter games that are being released or have been released after Deus Ex. I say this because, although the graphics are dated they still look good, but the gameplay is incredible. The story is engrossing. The game is long and will occupy plenty of game hours, more so than some of the new games that are being churned out. There are multiple endings coupled with some great, non-linear gameplay. There are Role playing elements involved in which you can basically grow and gain higher skills. There are often mulitple ways to accomplish any given goal, which gives the game added replay value. Pros: lengthy gmae offers many game hours to play multiple endings and non linear play adds replay value story is engossing music puts you in the characters boots Multiplayer was aadded by a great developer team for free Game is super fun to play overall CONS: Voice acting can get cheesy at times looks wierd in Direct3d/ and openGL mode is substandard AI is not as smart as newer games and the enemies are easily fooled into thinking that you no longer exist You will often think about this game when not even playing it You may feel obligated to wear black glasses and a trenchcoat When you first hear ICARUS say, "I now have full control of all of your systems" you may lose bladder control.
Rating: Summary: The best game I have played Review: I'm not a hard-core gamer, but I do like good shooters with stealth, character-building, and/or inventive plots. Deus Ex has all of these elements in full. The story carries the action well, but the true strength of the game is the flexible character skill development paired with the most open-ended, non-linear levels I've ever seen. Each mission has goals, but how you choose to achieve them -- sneaking through ducts or coming in the front door with the biggest gun you can find -- is entirely up to you. You will not experience the frustration common to other games in which you attempt a level over and over until the "right" solution is found. I have the highest hopes for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: One of the best computer games ever Review: I have been playing computer games for more than 20 years, and this is one of the best games that I have played. Many other reviewers have described the plot and the basics of gameplay, so I would like to highlight a couple of aspects that make this a stand-out game. First and most importantly, there is almost never a single "right" way to accomplish a mission. It is usually possible to use brute force, stealth, high-tech skills, or some combination to accomplish your goals. The levels are very detailed, with lots of different characters, objects, alternate routes, and secret passages. In many cases, characters will respond to you differently and even provide you with different tools or information depending on the means that you use to accomplish a task. Even after re-playing this game from start to finish at least 10 times, I still stumble on new ways to accomplish missions, new character dialogues, and new areas or features that I had never discovered before. Second, you have an remarkable degree of flexibility in the way that you customize your character as the game progresses. There are about a dozen different skills, including different weapons skills (pistols, rifles, explosives, heavy weapons), technical skills (lockpicking, electronics, computers), and miscellaneous skills (swimming, medicine). As the game progresses, you accumulate skill points, which you use to increase your proficiencies in whichever skills you want. The different skills give you different ways to accomplish missions, and they have a profound effect on the way you play the game. This is a game that requires some thinking; many of the missions require some initial reconaissance and the development of a good tactical plan, rather than simply rushing in with guns blazing. This is especially true on the game's higher difficulty levels. Often the first or most obvious solution is not necesarily the best. There are, naturally, a couple of problems. First, I have tried this game out on several computers, including a brand new computer that is well beyond the recommended specs, and it is often somewhat choppy, even with the graphic details turned all the way down. There are quite a few on-line guides on ways to optimize the game's performance; you will probably need to consult these and do some fine-tuning to get it running at its best. Second, although a minor point, the voice acting is so bad that it is actually funny, and some of the foreign accents (in Hong Kong and Paris, for example) are really a hoot. Overall, this game goes so far beyond most of what is out there that you might find that it raises the bar for what you expect from games in the future. For example, I could never play half-life again after playing Deus Ex, because it just seemed so two-dimensional.
Rating: Summary: Woo! Review: This is the best game ever. The graphics are outdated, even for when it was released (2000), but it doesn't matter. The story is amazing, and the music is actually something I'd listen to in a CD player. Great characters- There are at least 15 well-developed characters in this game(as opposed to the usual 0), and I was amazed at how upset I got when my favorite character died. Great weapons- There were twenty-three weapons to choose from (you could carry up to seven of them), and 5 variant ammo types. Each one had a unique feel, and was balanced well. Great customization system- you can distribute skill points into certain categories such as pistol (your aim is better, you do more damage, you reload faster), medical (medkits heal you better), heavy (you can walk faster while carrying big guns), etc. There are also weapon mods- laser, silencer, reload, clip size, recoil, range. There are ALSO augmentations- Strength, Healing, Cloaking, Radar Cloaking, Speed... VERY rich environments, quite non-linear- I don't know anyone who's found all the things you can see in the game before playing through at least three times. The Bad AI is sort of a letdown, but if you compare it to Soldier of Fortune 2 (They know exactly where you are if they see you once), I'd prefer Deus Ex's AI. WARNING: DO NOT BUY THE SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION. IT IS A ONE-LEVEL DEMO. Summary- Buy the game because it's the best thing ever.

Rating: Summary: A very bad game. Review: The game has the worst graphics ever, and in my opinion, Super Mario on Super Nintendo is better then this game! Please take my advice, please don't waste your money on this game. I can see that Eidos Interactive didn't spend much time on thinking what other gamers want, a game with good graphics, good gameplay, realistic gameplay and being able to actually kill an enemy.
