Rating: Summary: The best new first person shooter, bar none Review: Deus Ex, in my book, is the game of the year. The replay value is tremendous. The different ways you can build your character allow a curiosity to replay the game in a different fashion than you may have started with. The game is very flexible in how you approach the goals given to you in each stage. The ability to upgrade different skills allows you to explore more areas. Exploring more areas gives you bonus points to further upgrade, and so on. The better you play, the better your character becomes. The various weapons are quite useful, and upgradeable, with mods and skill upgrades, thus becoming very acuarate and powerful. The GEP gun and sniper rifle are a couple of my favorites. The game has a nice layout for the toolbelt and augments. The augments are found throughout the game, and allow you to upgrade your body. (vision, cloak, speed, etc.) Depending on how you pick these out you will have certain advantages/disadvantages in certain scenarios. This was very well thought out. (replay value) Deus Ex takes notes for you! What a time saver. Press F2 and check out what you learned. I have no major quarrels with this game except that I wish the sniper rifle had a tripod mod. 8) The game does seem to take quite a few resources. I'm runnning a 733 @ 133Mhz bus with 128MB, and I can't push the graphics too hard. Even with the Geforce 32MB. I make sure to kill other tasks before launch. The only other con I've noticed is the dialect in close up talk with other characters seems a litte "Godzilla-ish", but it's no big deal. Deu Ex gets major thumbs up from me. Great visual quality. Multiple ending options, none of which I've selected yet. (I'm right at the decision point.) Great sound, save the affore mentioned "Godzilla-ish" thing. Many ways to complete tasks. Easy game play. Lastly, good replay value, which is now more enhanced due to a multiplayer patch available from the Deus Ex web-site. If you like FPS games, and you do not have Deus Ex yet... Shame on you. Get a move on!
Rating: Summary: A New Reality Review: I have to Admit I was skeptical when I purchased this title. I have't Bought a computer game in a while and was disapointed at the last game that I purchased. As soon as I turned on this game I was drawn into a new world of excitement where I was making decisions that would shape the outcome of the entire world. This game will pull you in like a magnet and won't let you go. Your eyes will become red and swollen from hours of combat and investigative bliss. The graphics are stunning right down to the last detail of picking up your bosses candy bar off his desk and having him chew you out. The AI is cunning and is always trying to think what you are thinking. teenagers and adults alike will love this game because it provides entertainment as well as pushing your mind to the limit trying to get out of traps, breaking up conspriracys, and doing what you think will benefit others or you can be a merciless mercenary who weeds out the week for personal profit. You have the choice. With a huge arsenal of weaponry and gadgets at your disposal, you have the power to make a few changes. With smooth gameplay and an outstanding training program, This game will satisfy everyone from the hardcore gamer to the once a week online shopper. Bravo to Eidos interactive who brought the joy of gaming back to my household. Take a look and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Oh Yeah! One the best games of all time Review: I used to play games only on the console systems, so when I got my computer recently, I started buying a couple of games for it. One was Deus Ex, which i knew nothing about at the time(or any other game except for tie fighter). This game blew me away. it is like being in your own movie. tons of action, dialoge, and the best part is you get to kill almost ANYONE you see on the streets. I have come across street hookers in the game(every member of society is represented in this game) and either stabbed them to death or set them aflame with my flamethrower. you get to listen to your victims scream, cry out, and even explode on rare occasions. and for those of you who arent sadistic like me, everything you do has consquences. the storyline is similar to a sci-fi RPG, and character interaction is very important. the graphics are very good, and the number of voice effects is astounding. be warned though: make sure you have at least 64 megs of ram and a 3d-accelarator, because this game is POWERFUL. it uses a lot of speed and resources. if you have an old computer, I would advise you to check the minimum requirements before you order it. despite that, though, you will be in for a wild ride. it has rpg flavor, action, and stratagy. but it gets difficult just using a mouse to control your man. I could very well be wrong, but you can't use a joystick of any kind. other than that, it is a terrific game. well-thought out with all the maps, blueprints, etc. of all the buildings/cities. a lot of fun!
Rating: Summary: Best game I have ever played. Review: I'm a pretty hard-core gamer, and I have to say, this is my all-time favorite game. Just to give you an idea of my tastes, here are my top 5: 1. Deus Ex| 2. Half Life| 3. Baldur's Gate 2| 4. Rainbow Six: Rouge Spear| 5. Asheron's Call| My favorite thing about this game is the story-line. It is very engrossing and has plot twists at every turn. You will love this game's focus on conspiracy theories, especially if your already interested in topics like The Illuminati. This game has beautiful graphics, and the Unreal engine runs fairly well on most mid-range and up computers. The plot flows wonderfully, and the action will always keep you on your toes. One of the things I love about this game is that there are so many approaches you can take to each individual situation based on your playing style, a feature unique to this game. My only dissapointment with Deus Ex was that the facial animations are lacking, and that it has little replay value. Fortunately, the game delivers many many hours of play before you reach the stellar ending, where you choose how you want to complete the game. I suggest you buy this game now, you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: This is what I was waiting for and it finally came. When I finished System Shock 2 I was wanting more so I immediately went on the internet to look for System Shock 3. I didn't find SS3 but found something even better. Deus Ex just grabbed me with its plot. The first go around I went from 9 to 2 in the morning. Fighting off sleepiness to findout what happens next. Yup, its that good. The story is very imersive and what you do actually changes the outcome of the game. How many friends you will make and what will happen. I have to agree that without the cheats on its too hard. But it was an honest challenge for the first couple of missions, and then it was too hard to enjoy the plot. The good: Exelent plot, great missions and voice acting, great replay value (play again) The BAD: Graphics aren't quite top notch on lower end computers (ie.400MHz or below) will take 100hrs.+ to beat without cheats Bottom line: Buy this game right now!
Rating: Summary: Great game, but for everyone? Review: Deus Ex delivers a great storyline, stunning graphics, and some of the best character interaction in a title. Although the computer AI is not the best in the world, and there are a few minor "glitches" in the game, it is in my opinion, a good title worth buying. A word to the wise though, if you don't have one of the newest off-the-press video cards and a hefty processor, this game might not be for you. I personally have a Voodoo 5500 with a PIII and have no trouble running in the highest resolution. Although there are several options to help get the best framerates for your machine, it may or may not run 100% for you. Read the recommended specs and the editorial review above and you'll get a good idea about what you need. I have seen good framerates from a ATI card and a PII 400. It wasn't 800x600x32 and all the best details, but the game was playable. Aside from the high system requirements, this game is a must have for die-hard fans because of the great storyline. Also there is now a multiplayer support patch and the SDK has been released so look for new maps and all kinds of custom mods made by users in the future. Think of it as Unreal meets Half-Life.
Rating: Summary: PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY!!!! Review: I enjoyed this game for a very short time at first I thought "wow FINALLY a shooter/thinker" it IS NOT A SHOOTER/THINKER!! the only thing there is to think about is the story (which is so good it boosted my rating from 1 star to 2)! to complete the levels just shoot its simple, but you also have to spend like 20 hours on one stage to survive in the next. YOU HAVE TO HAVE ALL THE ITEMS and that is the primary reason this game is not boaring, but slow as heck. Of course if you got the time and mabey the cheats/skill i imagine how cool Deus Ex will be to you, but if you dont remember *bad AI in the enimys *hours and hours and hours of serching for little tinny items that are sadly easily missed *no need to think in the levels just shoot no planning needed *dark graphics (hard to see sometimes) *for a shooter fan there arn't that many guns GOOD POINTS *best story in a long time (for a computor game) *ok control responce *thousands of charactors to interact with *lots of pop up things that give you many diffrent things to say/do with an item in conclution:If you have the money and thing it sounds cool then get it youll at lest find it mediocerly interesting (i hope) if you have any doubts play it at someone's house. WARNING THE DEMO IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE REAL GAME!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Good if your hardware supports it. Review: I'll let the other reviews posted here address gameplay and other issues of the game's merits. I just want to make sure you understand: the game is not playable unless you have a 3dfx-based card and can therefore use the Glide drivers. I have a 700MHz Athlon with a GeForce 2 card, and the game's Direct3D support is so poor that I get from 5 to 15 frames per second, even on sparsely-populated scenes. They released a half-butted "beta" patch for Direct3D many months ago, and have done nothing since. I can't play the game.
Rating: Summary: I'VE NEVER HAD THIS MUCH FUN PLAYING A VIDEO GAME!! Review: I've played a lot of PC/console games in my life - a lot of RPG's and a lot of FPS's - but I can tell you without a doubt, this one is so much fun I can hardly wait for Deus Ex 2. While being far from perfect, I found it so addictive I played it five times! What makes this game so much fun is unexplainable. It just sucks you in and won't let you excape. From the moment I got my orders on the dock at Liberty Island in the first mission, my curiosity wouldn't let me stop playing. Take my advice - If you buy this game, be prepared to not want to do anything else but play it. Like I said, I've played quite a few games in my life but I have never - ever - played a game anywhere near this addictive. If you are a huge Goldeneye or Unreal Tournament fan, don't be fooled - this game is not an FPS! It is a FPRPAG - a first person role playing action game. Every single complaint I've ever heard about this game has come from a hardcore FPS fan. Like I said, it's not perfect. The only problems with this game are: poor Direct 3D performance (no problem at all with the D3D patch), poor voice acting at times (something you won't notice unless you don't like the game to begin with), very complicated, very frustrating (yet very good) plot, dumb enemy AI (if you can hide from them for 30 seconds, they give up looking for you), and that's about all the cons - to go along with about a million pros. The bottom line - This game is not perfect but it is still more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Period.
Rating: Summary: BEST GAME EVER Review: I am a huge first person shooter fan. And out of every first person shooter I have played this is my favorite. What I really like is the length of this game. Its very long and challenging. It won't take you only a week and then your done. It has a great story to it. You don't just kill everyone and your done. If you're thinking about getting this game don't think, get it.
