Rating: Summary: Buy It Review: *For lower end machines tuning down the video settings and the amount of AI (for single player) helps the problem**To really enjoy the game you will need a Ti4600 128MB GeForce4 (higher end video cards let you increase the AI on single player increasing the fun), P4 2ghz (lower load times), 768mb of Ram (makes the game run smoother), Thrustmaster Force Feedback Racing Wheel (for the many WW2 vehicals you will drive), and Saitek J24C X45 Flight Control System (or any joy stick will make flying a plane easier).* *The game play is really intense both on single and multiplayer but multiplayer is the true gem. Pitting your self against and with your fellow men will add bigger hint of realsim and strategy to the game. The scope of what you can do is enormous (take off in a plane, tank, take a jeep, etc) making the game truly fun.* *You do not have to be a WW2 junkie or a first person shooter maniac to enjoy this game. It's a game for anyone who enjoys multiplayer type games, strategizing, communicating with your team, and battles modeled over real historic ones. This game will impress almost everyone.* *The games graphics are much like the graphics in Medal of Honor, good but not excellent. The sound is good but again nothing excellent. Keep in mind if these things were beefed up the system requirements would be higher allowing less people to play.* *Some minor annoyances are with the sniper rifle after you take a shot the sniper mod turns off. This disables you from seeing if you shot the guy or not. Some glitches but overall an excellent and ground breaking game.* *Buy it!*
Rating: Summary: Lag? Review: Once I installed this game I noticed no lag even though so many people that this game was plagued with lag. I have no super machine: Pentium 4, 1.6 ghz, 768 mb of RAM, and GeForce 2 64 mb video card. The single player missions with all the options turned on max or close to it, took about 40 seconds to load and there was no lag, at least in my case. The game is extremely fun, with options of going beyond the soldier position (planes, ships, and tanks etc.). The graphics are good when compared to the size of the terrain. Overall a 9.5/10 game.
Rating: Summary: A novelty item Review: I just bought BF 1942 after weeks of waiting and searching local stores. I'm VERY disappointed in the [$$$]that I WASTED on this game. Yes, it was very exciting for the first hour and a half, but after that...I've never played a more monotonous game. Basically, the entire goal of the game is to hold your 'outpost' or take the enemy's. Unfortunately, it's impossible to actually hold an outpost after you've taken it because you only have a couple other guys. What ends up happening is you go to defend/take another outpost, but in your absence (because you're the only guy in the area), an enemy guy (ONLY ONE) will 'sneak in' and take it from you. The mission is over when the enemy's "ticket count" reaches zero. The only ways to decrease the enemy's ticket count is by killing an enemy (very hard to do this the required ~100 times to win because there's only one or two enemies in sight at anytime and it takes a few minutes to even SEE another player) or capture all of the outlook posts. It's a very time-consuming and MONOTONOUS game! DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It's worth playing it on a friend's computer or something, but after an hour or so...you'll have had all that you can take. I'm very disappointed I wasted the money on this game...potential buyers be wary!
Rating: Summary: OK, this isn't an honest review because..... Review: It locks up my machine 80% of the time. To start with after you install the game you have to jump through a bunch of hoops at File Planet etc. to get a patch. After all that I have to reboot 3 out of 4 times starting the game. Yes, I have the most recent video drivers and DirectX 8.1. Yes I meet the specs, Dual PIII's @ 1GHz, 851 Megs of RAMS, LVD SCSI drives and a Geforce4 TI4400 running Windows XP oughta do it! If you have to get an EA title get Medal of Honor! This feels like a work in progress(beta) and they have a long way to go! Don't spend 45 bucks on a beta version!
Rating: Summary: Save your money, what a let down! Review: I loved Medal of Honor but this game is horrible. Still trying to get the patch to be downloaded from the companies suggested sites(download problems with the sites). Also the games is really slow to load as others have noted. The graphics are poor on my computer too(it only supports certain graphics cards I guess). I liked all the other EA games but this one shockingly bad. Save your money.
Rating: Summary: How is this game getting good reviews?? Review: I bought this game cause it looked like it would be so much fun to play with the variety of vehicles you could use. However, it is almost unplayable. The gameplay is horrible! The graphics and specially the sound are super choppy. The system requirements are huge but even with everything turned down it still plays horribly. Guess after playing Medal Of Honor maybe I was spoiled?? Its too bad cause there is so much potential with this game. Sadly, it was far from executed. My advice?? Save your money and buy Medal of Honor and the expansion pack coming out in November. You will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Battlefield 1942, What they don't tell you! Review: Awsome idea! But if you don't have a state of the art system forget it. If you dont have better than a 48,000 connection forget about playing online. I have a great system and like everyone else I have a problem with lockup, & loading times. Some games in the single player instant battles won't even load. If you get one of the games that are out now, you have to d/l a patch so you can play online.
Rating: Summary: A midget compared to other games Review: No doubt, the game is indeed fun. With 16 different maps and 4 different nations, the game can be played over and over again with the same satisfaction. One problem, there is no story to this game. The objective is not to infiltrate an enemy building or sabotage a base, but only to shoot and kill, shoot and kill. The game is just too simple. In games like Medal of Honor, you actually had to use your head. It was almost like a puzzle, with hidden areas all over the place. This is where creativity comes in. As for Battlefield 1942, all you do is run around the map and shoot soldiers. Also, I think the intensity of the game is just below average. Why is this so? The number of soldiers participating is too small. At one point of the game, I discovered that there were only two other men on my side fighting along me! In the Omaha level, I easily dodged the German bullets even though the ratio between enemy soldiers and friendly ones was on "Impossible" level. Come on, where's the excitement? In MOHAA, you had bullets flying all over the place with endless numbers of Americans falling around you. You actually had to use the obstacles as protection. The game just could have been better. In the Stalingrad map, it would have been more interesting if the Russians actually had to cross the Volga in boats with German planes flying above. In Iwo Jima, there could have been caves and underground tunnels. To sum it up, I think the game needs more creativity. More soldiers should participate in the Single Player Missions. 10 or 15 soldiers on each side may seem interesting and fun, but when you realize the size of the map, it's sometimes really difficult to find the enemy, especially in some of the desert maps. Also, I would appreciate it more if the AI would use the planes more. But do you know what frustrates me the most? Where in the world is that ...submarine?
Rating: Summary: requirements Review: waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too mcuh requirements...cthe grpahics arent thaaaaat good. I give this a one i hope maybe theyll allow more people to be able to play
Rating: Summary: AWSOME GAME!!! Review: This game has to be one of my favorites of today. Before, I had downloaded the demo versions, when I say versions I am talking about the single player and the multiplayer demos. Once installed, I was amazed on how beautiful the graphics looked, and how much fun the game really was. So, the day BF1942 came out, I went out, bought it and I was amazed once again! There are over 15 maps you can play from. I myself personally play this game on the internet a lot, and it runs GREAT! Of course, I have a really great internet, I use a cable modem, and note if you have a 56k modem, switch to Cable or DSL! I really hate it when other people rate this game LOW on scores because their computers are outdated. They should go and either upgrade their computer, or buy another one! But the last 2 reviews from "gamer" are weak, he rates it low, because he has a sorry computer and doesnt know the meaning of UPDATING! Over all this game is great for Multiplayer, Single Player and everything. Highly recomended for hours and hours of fun!
