Summary: Game for those with meaty processors and hi-speed internet
Review: This game is definitely fun but a little too powerful for the average end computers. For internet gamers, this is a good one, fun and simple to understand with richly layered, though limited in number battlefield environments. The non-internet game is a fun one as well, but only a super powerful computer can truly appreciate the details, figures and sophisticated AI. Make sure your computer has beefy RAM and Processors (512 and 1.5 gigs minimum) to get the most out of this game.

Summary: Battlefield 1942 - perplexing
Review: Played the demo and liked it. Since I have a Dell P4, 1/6ghz, 256Mg memory, Nvidia Gefore 2 MMX w/64mg, XP I highly anticipated the real deal which I bought. It's been mixed feelings since then. With just a dial-up connection, forget multiplayer. I've gotten in to a couple of games but with more than 6 players you just lag out. Even in singleplayer mode, it's maddening. I've read a lot of comments (here and other places) and there is no seemingly set formula for good gameplay on your machine. I've messed with virtual memory, tweaked B1942 settingly with video modes, used different monitor refresh rates, unistalled McAfee virus and firewall to see if it helped and all that still makes the game hit and miss. Any action with planes (Midway) kills the gameplay. What makes it a bigger issue for me is that I love this game, especially Berlin, where infantry rocks. Having to Look at bulletin boards and all the tweaking just to try to get this game to an acceptible level of play is just not worth it. A P4 1.6ghz with a Geforce 2 w/64 OUGHT to work...

I got this game to work a whole lot better. Are you ready?

- Changed my desktop to 800x 600 16-bit color, 75mhz monitor refresh rate and matched this in the games video settings
- Turned off my video cards antalizing (sp) - set to none
- Turned off my soundcards hardware accleration to none.

To play multiplayer you must have broadboard or DSL.

Obviously, if you don't know what I'm talkng about, this game is not for you. Changed my rating from 2 to 4 stars but EA still shouldn't have made it this tough. Microsoft's success with Age of Empires was that it was/is playable on most systems.

Summary: It's over
Review: Life as we know it is over with this game. This IS THE only game you will ever need again. I put up my quake 3 for this game, this is serious. Up to 64 players online cant beat it. Anyway, BF41942 Rules!!! Nuff said. Get it or miss out on the greatest game ever. ...

Summary: Great Game, but get you system ready!
Review: I got this game, put it in the computer and it ran ok, but not nearly as bad as some are saying. I reinstalled windows since it's been over a year since I cleaned out my computer hard drive or registry, and the game runs wonderful. Also found that I was getting poor service from my broadband service so I switched and now have almost flawless gameplay. I strongly recommend 512 meg or more with windows XP, you will see a big improvement with this game. Very good game that is played daily, my wife hates it!
Althlon XP 1700+

Summary: allied versus axis
Review: i think this game is excatlly like Medal of Honor....but with a better Multiyplayer. Its pretty cool to fly in a plane bombing a defense person who just so happens to be out off ammo in the heat of battle(a soldiers nightmare). tanks are kinda hard to control though...if you get the hang of them for awhile though its ok. now jeeps are pretty straight forward....just jump in and take a ride......its pretty wierd how this game is based on WW2, because its about (what i like to call gangs) Allies and Axis fighting each other. Major fire power in this game...Single player is a PC gamers dream...though menus take a LONG!! time to load, hope this review (well readme) was cool:)

Summary: This game is a fantastic MULTIPLAYER game!
Review: Have you ever played a 1st person shooter and tried to jump in a tank, jeep, etc., only to find out you can't?? Well, in BF1942 you can drive everything. It's what I was hoping Medal of Honor Allied Assault was going to be (based on their exagerated hype).

The game was written for Online play - nobody I know plays the single player mode. The "conquest" mode, where each team vies for control of certain objectives and you loose lives from the available pool if you fail to control a certain number of objectives, is great for encouraging team play. Nothing like storming an outpost with a buddy on your left, a buddy on your right, and a tank behind you for support. The ability to drive tanks, planes, APC's etc. add a whole new combined-arms based range of tactics that other games don't have. Period.

Also, your Function keys drive a menu of voice commands. There are quite a few - over 40 at least. At first I thought that would be kind of cheezy - but it adds to the team concept. It also ties in with the minimap in the top right corner of your screen (a minimap is something I've wanted to see in first-person shooters for a long time). When you issue a voice command, your icon on the minimap flashes. This ways when I hear "Enemy armor spotted!", a quick check on the minimap lets me know where I should be heading to (or running away from, depending on the weapons at my disposal).

Some servers support up to 64 people. Trust me, there's nothing like a 32 vs 32 battle for Berlin. Absolutely non-stop mahem. For more strategy, try one of the huge expansive maps such as Guadalcanal.

I personally have not had any problems with performance or bugs. However, you will want a speedy Internet connection anytime you play an online game. I have basic DSL (128/586) and it's pretty much lag free.

Get BD1942 before you pick up Medal of Honor, Return to Castel Wolfenstein, or any other game. You'll thank me later.

Summary: Road to Rome
Review: If the expansion is anything like the original then this game will kick some serious .... Battlefield 1942 is one of those hidden gems of a game that people have never heard of but once they play it, they are hooked forever. BF1942 has been voted Action Game of the Year by many sources and this expansion is looking to really take its place next to its bigger sister.

Summary: Battlefield 1942 is excellent
Review: If you love games about world war 2 then you will love this game. The graphics are almost perfect and it has the best settings I've ever seen. You can drive in almost every vehicle there was in 1942. You can even drive in a submarine. What I do when someone jumps in a B-17 (Flying Fortress)is I jump in right after him because, I like to ride in a plexiglass bubble under the plane armed with two 50 Cal. machine guns.

Summary: Good Idea, Bad Implementation
Review: When I first heard of this game I was impressed, a good idea. The ability to choose what ever vehicle you wanted, land sea and air etc. I was immediately fronted with long loading times. I decided to try the single player first and it was extremely slow and choppy game play so I tried out the multiplayer which where even longer loading times. I stuck with this game for a good several days thinking I could get used to its flaws but I just couldn't get past the buggy and choppy gameplay.

The graphics are nothing to cheer about below Medal of Honor and Soldier of Fourtune II.

The sound was ok.

All in all not worth the money. Even with my system specs you still have to turn down the graphics to medium and even low to have decent gameplay and I can run Medal of Honor and SOF2 with high graphics on multiplayer and have it run smooth.

System specs:

Windows XP Pro
DSL
Pentium 4 2.0 gHz
256 DDR Ram
GeForce 3 Ti200 128mb ram
Sound Blaster 5.1
