Summary: WHERES MY PURPLE HEART?
Review: They say there will never be a game to make everyone happy..... that is true but this WWII sim has got to come close! This is by far the best 1st Person Shooter out to date. Graphics that make you duck for cover behind your monitor, explosions that will lift you out of your chair! WOW!! Single Player mode has a fantastic storyline and when completed it makes you want to play again and again. The computer and ally AI is state of the art. Your enemy actually makes use of its surroundings, When replayed the enemy will not behave the same way over and over, it tries to adapt to each scenerio! Too bad I can only give 5 stars, This is one Great title! Stop Reading and start buying soldier!

Summary: Great Game--for high-end systems only.
Review: Just a word of warning to those who have systems over a few years old. I have a Dell 550Mhz, 384meg ram, 32meg video card (Nvidia TNT2). It's a fairly standard high-end system as of a few years ago yet even on all the lowest game settings Allied assault is nearly unplayable. And no, it's not a gummed up system--it ran Return to Wolfenstein just fine. Think twice if you have an older system because EA has left you in the dust with this one.

Summary: Look but don't touch
Review: This game feels like a museum. The graphics are gorgeous, but you are not allowed to interact with them. For example, you'll be running through an abandoned house. You take a moment of pause and shoot everything in your surroundings. Nothing, I mean nothing breaks. Even glass bottles can withstand your bullets. All right, so the windows do break. But not without A LOT persuasion from your Tommy Gun.

In my experience, this game feels more like an interactive movie. It relies heavily on scripted sequences which you can nothing to influence. Basically, 3d cut scenes. In one sequence, I tossed a grenade at some soldier's feet. Someone shouted, "Grenade", but my buddies kept talking. Boom. They still kept talking. You can also tell which soldiers are scripted by shooting them. Talking soldiers just take the bullets, extras have their helmets knocked off. Yes, you can't kill your "band of brothers". I've tried. :)

The graphics are fantastic, and the sounds are marvelous. Outside that, its really just a simple shooter whereby you follow a linear path that kills you if you deviate from it. The AI is pretty weak. Also it utilizes 1st person shooter cliches (aka, barrels explodes, complete the objective then face a mass of nazis, where there is lots of health, there are lots of baddies, etc.)

Still it's a fun "ride" (think of the same interactivity as an amusement park ride) which really has no replay value. I would honestly call this a renter if it were a console game. Or wait until its price gets lower. 20-30 is a good range for this.

Summary: Great game with very good AI
Review: Surely this game is not Rainbow Six or its many successors in that you do not pre-plan. There is no real strategy other than to shoot your way to the objective. But for a WWII sim, this game has no equal. This is hardly an arcade game. The graphics are great and the AI is tough to fight against. Sure, in the easy mode you can take a lot of hits and there are lots of health kits for you to restore your health. In the difficult mode you had better get ready. If you get in the sights of a machine gun nest or a sniper, you are history and there is little in the way of health kits. The AI has people duck and cover. They will stick just their weapons around the corner and fire without exposing themselves. To some extent they will advance on you but you have to hit a game trip to activate the response. The weapons seem to be modeled very well and with the screen movement added, you get the feel you are behind a real weapon. I did not like the fact that you cannot control your squad even if it was just with basic commands such as advance or cover. Some times they will charge ahead and get in the line or fire, which may be somewhat real but it sure is a pain. It would have been nice to hold them back at times. It would also be good if you could have the ability to be prone. The game gives you a crouch mode but you cannot lie flat at least not in the demo. The enemy sure has this feature and and will sometimes hit the deck to engage you, making for a difficult target. BOTTOM LINE-This game has the feel and look of being in a real firefight with great graphics, sound and plenty of enemy to engage. If this is what you are looking for, MOHAA is the game for you. If you are looking for a strategy game with lots of planning and ability to control stealth or SWAT like movements, stick with Rouge Spear and SWAT 3 (but go to a friend's house and see what you are missing).

Summary: breathtaking
Review: I just got the full version today. This game is phenomenal. The gameplay is well done, the graphics are great, the missions are INCREDIBLY diverse. Scripted events pop up everywhere. Things go nuts at a moments notice. I have completed the first entire mission in North Africa. It was a ton of fun. This game says it's a first person shooter when it's so much more. There's stealth, sabatoge, infiltration, rescue, manning a machine gun on the back of a jeep shooting at a plane thats dropping bombs on you...many games have one thing that takes you so long to figure out, that you keep quickloading back to when you mess up. I have not found any such thing yet(on easy mode that is) and the gameplay is lasting yet linear. You won't find yourself guessing. Your mission is laid out right in front of you. Many times, you'll be following someone and they'll take you where you need to go. When you go solo, it's easy to figure out but that ease does not hinder it's fun factor. Completing missions is very satisfying.

Multiplayer is OK but it doesn;t carry the game like in RTCW. No classes, only a few maps. Worth playing though. But this game really shines in Single Player.

Nobodys perfect. There are some problems with this game but they are no reason not to buy it. Slowdown occurs a lot on machines that barely meet the system requirements. You should have a better system than reccomended to get it running smoothly. Running gamespy exclusively for multiplayer is a hassle but is manageable. AI can be weak at times in both your enemies and allies. You do not have the ability to go prone or lean in single player but your enemies do which I think is very unfair. Other than that, this game is gold. One of the best first person shooters in a while. Definitely worth getting. Plus, the new small box is so cool. It's as big as a VHS tape. You'll feel curious and happy just holding this game's box in your hands. It's that good.

Summary: Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Review: This game has some good and some really bad elements. Graphics are very nice though Q3 engine is starting to show its age due to its inability to render huge exteriors (see Operation Flashpoint exteriors for reference). Playability is average - ok in single player mission and highest in team multiplayer... Deathmatch in Medal of Honor should not even exist. It requires no IQ - simply luck in good reflexes.

Realism and originality is where this game misses its mark. First of all, the game is more or less a remake of the motion picture - Saving Private Ryan. Sure, everything looks nice and some of the graphical elements are revolutionary (e.g. explosions) but the predictable nature of the scenes and missions ruins the overall feeling as you can not compare this game with the movie. Secondly, hello -- there is no blood! I guess that means more $$$ for the publisher since the violence rating is then lowered. That in itself is a major turn off. We are not talking here paint ball but actual WW2 combat. Something more on the violence scale of Saving Private Ryan would have been more appropriate and realistic. Third, the main character can carry at any time a small aresenal of weapons. Please... Sniper rifle, Thompson sub-machinegun, and a bunch of stuff that you need a truck for...

All in all, if you are looking for a realistic 1st person combat game this ain't it. It's all pretty graphics like Return To Castle Wolfestein...

In my opinion, Operation Flashpoint is to date - the best 1st person military combat sim. Save your hard earned dollars for it.

Summary: It's entertaining, but has no realism, and sense of War...
Review: The Graphics on this game are outstanding and the sound is even better. But that's where my praise for this game stops. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault was dubbed as a realistic WW2 tactical game, the makes even employed the technical advisor on Saving Private Ryan and Band Of Brothers to make sure the game plays like it is real.
The weapons and vehicles act and feel like real weapons and vehicles but it plays too much like Return To Wolfenstein. You can get the hell shot out of you and miraculously recover with the aid of a medic kit just placed randomly around the scenario. You can get hit at point blank range from enemy fire and walk away with only 25% of your life gone.
The enemy AI is terrible; they do have a kind of self-preservation about them selves and will duck down behind a fence or wall but are still too dumb to make the game a challenge. At one point I killed 16 men that just kept walking around the corner where I was hiding, not realising that their allies where being killed so easily. All they needed to do was to get a grenade around the corner and I would be out of there fast.
Also at some moments in the game you can pick of an enemy and his buddies not 20 feet away won't react to his death, and just wait until you start shooting at them. Enemy artillery fires on the same spot and at timed intervals, so once you have seen the first explosion you can avoid the next one easily.
Your own team is just as stupid standing in an opening shooting for his life instead of running for cover. I am an ex-solider that served in the British army and admittedly I have not been in a conflict as intense as WW2 but the first thing you are taught is to look for cover, and keep moving; this is just ignored in this game.
And what I want to know is why they didn't put any lay down option? Sometimes the action gets a bit hairy and you are taking fire from all direction and just crouching is not low enough.
In the single player Demo you take out a tank with a RL but can't destroy the artillery cannons at the end with them. Why is this?
As for the blood issue, to many people have been watching Rambo movies. Real gun wounds produce very little blood, most people die from the internal damage that is caused not loss of blood. So get over it quickly.
If you are looking for a game that plays like a Realistic WW2 game then wait for Hidden And Dangerous 2, too come out. H&D 1 even thought not as good graphically is much better technically, and one bullet could mean life or death. Or if you are looking for a RTCW or Quake type game then this could be for you; after all they have used the Quake 3 Engine for this game and it show it to.

It is an entertaining game but has no realism, and sense of war.

Summary: Great game, could've been slightly better.
Review: If EA was going for a realistic WW2 Sim, they hit close to the mark. Weapons sound and feel authentic, the atmosphere is immersive, especially during the Omaha beach level. Enemies are smart, go for cover, and attack in groups. In short, you feel like a WW2 soldier. However, ze Germans, being a super race, never bleed, and their bodies fade out once they die (maybe to achieve the ultimate in efficiency by minimizing funeral costs). Also, the aim of the enemies is a little too good, and when a Wermarcht soldier sticks a rifle from around a corner at 100 yards and hits you in the face, you start to question reality.

The best part of the game is the variety of the levels, and the sense of purpose. Instead of randomly killing scores of enemies for no apparent reason (Quake, Doom, Serious Sam, etc.), every mission involves a certain goal, and that goal is always different, as well as the means to accomplish it. Another great part is the inclusion of the friendly soldiers in difficult missions; you actually feel as if you're part of a squad. In short, fun, immersive, and a blast to play.

Why 4/5? Like I said, the lack of blood, the fading bodies, the unerring aim of the enemy. The one bad level was the sniper level, in which 5 snipers all shoot at you from different directions, and to take one out, you must expose yourself to 4 others. That becomes a drag real quick, since according to EA, Germans snipers NEVER, EVER miss.

Haven't played multiplayer yet, since I got the game relatively early (1/14), and no one had it yet. But I imagine it's good, someone might miss when they shoot you for a change. If you got the (money) and a computer, go buy this game. Just do it on a weekend, otherwise be prepared to take sick days.

Summary: Will AI ever be accurate...
Review: EA has outdone themselves again. This game has all the eye candy AND ear candy you could ever dream of, but just like most games of this type the AI for the enemy is superb and the AI for your team is, how should I put this, ineffective, impotent, etc. The enemy AI is full of soldiers that are crack shots under any circumstances but then again they should be when your team members stand in the open looking at you...ho hum I'll still get the game and will thoroughy enjoy playing it.

Summary: Awesome
Review: This game is really, honestly, awesome. It is so realistic, it will have you ducking for cover as you hear bullets smacking into the sindow sill, right where you were sniping from. The single player demo is a truly amazing work. The weapons, the character models, and the animations, even simple things like reloading are amazing. They are so realistic, it will simply knock your socks off. The system requirements are a bit steep. On my P4 1.5 ghz with a Geforce 2 64 mb mx card with 256 mb RAM the game ran sweetly, but anything less, you might have trouble. Nevertheless, this is the game to buy in 2002.
