Rating: Summary: It takes two to Review: Speaking theatrically for a moment, there's an important, and oft confused distinction between the terms 'realistic' and 'naturalistic'. Naturalism seeks to show its audience a slice of sensory reality; that is, something that looks, sounds, even smells like real life. Realism, on the other hand tries to show the real truth about life - not the costumes or lights of the stage, but the relationships, tension and drama of the world. Raven Shield, the latest in the Rainbow Six series, is a healthy helping of both. As such, it's not really fair to describe this title as a totally 'Realistic' action game. There's no such thing. What you do get is a highly charged and tension wracked experience that features a great many lifelike moments, packed with guns and gadgets and hours of enthralling gameplay. As part of the elite Special Forces organization 'Rainbow', it's your job to lead a team of highly trained soldiers to thwart the machinations of evil, gun-toting baddies. You get to equip your team, plan your attack, and lead your troops in the 1st Person, much the same as previous titles in the series. There's a lot in common with the game's predecessors - an emphasis on stealth, team tactics and accurate shooting, especially when there are hostages involved. The game world is lovingly created, from the mission planning stage where you kit out your agents, to the huge interactive environments you'll be stalking through. Ubisoft has positively crammed detail into this game, and visually it's by far the most striking of the series. If your video card is up to the job you'll be treated to lush, high-res graphics with plenty of environmental effects, such as swaying trees, billowing smoke, fluffy snowflakes and more. All the weapon models and animations look fabulous, and you can see each weapon and grenade dangling from the belts of your troops as you lead them into action. Equally the sound is top notch, with bullets that positively sizzle past your head, and convincing speech from your team...nothing beats hearing 'tango's down' crackling over your headset. There's plenty of ambient sound to enjoy as well, and the game rewards players who pay attention to subtleties like footsteps, or doors creaking open. The game AI is robust and versatile, though its here that many players tend to throw around the word 'realistic' in disparaging tones. Sure, there's room for improvement - your team occasionally gets disoriented when traversing doors or ladders, and the enemy intelligence will sometimes ignore your gunfire, or the death of a nearby colleague. Still, these occasions are infrequent, and on the whole the game puts on a good show, considering it's responsible for up to 7 computer controlled commandos and dozens of terrorists in one level. Coupled with a robust and enjoyable multiplayer mode, Raven Shield has almost all the bases covered for a tactical shooter. My expectations in the realism department are catered for, and then some, with tons of options and weapons to play with (over 50), all based on their real life counterparts. 'Based on' is a good way to describe how true to life this game is...if you want something more convincing I suggest you uninstall and never again play this game after you first die - hey, no second chances in the wet-works department. For everyone else in search of a thoughtful and highly atmospheric shooter, this latest adventure should sneak its way into your collection; and then flash-bang the pants off it!
Rating: Summary: Who is smoking the cheap stuff? Review: Is it the developers or people who paid $60.00 for this repetitious and unimaginative piece of garbage? Although I agree that there has been an improvement in Graphics, the game is plagued with problems much like its predecessor. It seems the developers haven't improved the game at all. The storyline is very similar to the two games before it and layout of the missions seems almost identical, as well. In single player missions your team members seem blind and AIs can take you out with a 9mm from 200 yards with a single shot. Ridiculous. I got this game at Boxing day sale in Canada for 20 Canadian dollars. If you did spend more than 20 US than you are smoking the cheap stuff:)
Rating: Summary: amazing game Review: All i can say is this game is incredible all around. just another great Tom Clancy product. the use of the Unreal engine makes quite a difference. i loved SWAT3 more than anything and though this game isn't quite as good, in regards to Team control, it's definitely 2nd in my book.
Rating: Summary: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield Review: Raven Shield has got to be the weakest Tom Clancy game while Splinter Cell is the best. Built on the Unreal 2 engine the game looks and runs great but the main interface is struck in low resolution. There is not much of a story just pick your team, hunt down terrorist, defuse bombs, save hostages ect. The single player gameplay is impossible due to lack of save games. In one mission you need to sneak in and sneak out undetected which is really frustrating. The AI is bad weak sometimes over smart and sometime dumb. The multiplayer and co-operative gameplay are great but i expected a better single player gameplay after Ghost Recon and its expansion packs which were great.
Rating: Summary: RaVeN ShiElD Review: raven shield is a very great game, but naturally it has its flaws. first of all, we still cant jump! almost every FPS game on the planet lets you jump. the greatest improvments are the graphics and sound effects by FAR. its cool that youve got tear gas and other new weapons too, but now they all have stats that make most suck! and every single gun in the game has a horrible recoil problem. i shoot a few bullets and my gun moves around so much i miss by a foot. but just keepmoving ur mouse down. all in all if you are a hardcore fan of RS buy this, if you are soomewhat new to the series get the very first one without the expansions because the graphics worsen.
Rating: Summary: WOW! PC gaming at its best! Review: first off, if you ever buy a FPS, buy RvS (ravenshield). while the game may lack a few desirable features )i.e. using bibods on boxes, not just in prone positions. or being able to climb on over stuff) it provided more hours of entertainment than any other game I've ever played!!! it is definitely not an arcade shooter, though you can always just grab a high cap mag (50 or 100 round magazines depending on which weapon)and charge! with 57 weapons, the replay value of this game is amazing. I'm sure you know how many games have one gun that you like and you just use that forever, well, that's not so in RvS. when you use, for example, the FAMAS G2, a French assault rifle with a cyclic rate of 950 rpm, on an indoor mission you can pack twenty rounds into a guy and constantly stay on the move. or you can grab a Remington SSG-3000 bolt-action sniper rifle with a silencer (or thermal sights) and quietly sneak around to the opposite spawn point and pick them off from behind. Though this goes without saying when it's a Tom Clancy game, this game is unbelievably realistic!!! I consider myself to be quit knowledgable in weapons, etc. and Tom Clancy games have really mastered it. each gun has its own exact specifications for multiple catagories (i.e. stability, accuracy, range, damage, etc.)and it really makes a difference. you can come to a stable state much faster with a compact sub machine gun (i.e. the MP5A4 ) than with a light machine gun (i.e. the M249 SAW). and every detail is taken into consideration, if you have a high cap mag, the added wait means it takes longer to regain stability, and a suppressed (silenced) weapon has less damage, range, etc. I found that it really helps to read about the different weapons (it's also kinda interesting) so www.raven-shield.com is a great spot to read about the weapons, strategies, etc. And I always wanted to ask questions about a game before I buy it so I figure you can feel free to kick me an email if you have a question and I'll try and help ya out! overall though: great game, really the most entertaining game I've ever played. P.S. [ASS] clan rocks!!!
Rating: Summary: Full of promise but never delivered Review: Bugs, playability problems, and a poor interface design are the glaring issues I've had with this game. After several patches, I'm still unsatisfied with Rainbow Six 3. If I were in the market for a first person shooter, look to Call of Duty or Battlefield 1942. If you don't like World War 2 shooters, then hold out for Ghost Recon 2.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Game Review: This is perhaps the best in the series as of this point. If you've loved the past games, you will like this. One of the best parts about this game, and one of the only reasons to play this, is the multiplayer. If you have good connection this will be a good addition to your game collection. Overall, I enjoyed this little treat.
Rating: Summary: Ventura_TAW Review: Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. Sorry to say but all those COUNTER STRIKE fans dont know what they are missing...No matter what, counter strike has patches and all like 1.6, however they dont fix every thing. Counter Strike is nothing compared to Raven shield the 5 RS game. Raven Shield would deffinatly a 5/5! No doubt.
Rating: Summary: Best Game! Review: UBI has really taken Rainbow Six to a new level. Each game better then the last, this game has really done it! From the graphics; which are the best (guns, maps, people) and the plot and levels of the game. Single player, is in my opinion, the best of all. Some liked multiplayer but there are only 17 active servers with generally 2/10 people in each at a time; it's hard to find a good game with lots of people in it in MP (multiplayer). Otherwise, I've had no compatibility issues like other owners stated and would give this game 5/5. You can control multiple teams (assault/sniper) and quiclky test your tactics on the S.W.A.T. team with those stupid tango's (terrorists). Definitly buy this game or download the SP (single player) demo to check it out. You can do that at http://raven-shield.com or my website http://trentscott.com!
