Summary: unreliable greatness
Review: This game deserves 5 stars, I'd give it more if it were possible... that is, it deserves 5 stars when working properly. I thought this game was great when I was playing with 4 people on XBOX, but playing with 16 online? Now thats a different story. Best multiplayer game I've ever played. However, a week after I bought it, whenever I tried to join an online game, my whole computer restarts, and a friend with the game also has the same problem. I have 2.4Ghz P4, 512MB ram, and a Radeon 8500.

Summary: Best online game I have played in a long time
Review: This game is sweet. It takes a powerful PC to run but the detail, graphics and the play control are great. The single player game has a good story line and is a good teacher for learning character control and the in's and out's of the game. However, you buy this game for the online PvP battles and the game delivers. Hundreds of servers are always available and there is nothing like a good 8 v 8 game of capture the flag in Blood Gulch....

I have read on the box that it requires a minimum of 733Mhz to run, that may be a bit optimistic. I would say nothing short of maybe a 1.3 or 1.5Ghz and lots of RAM, at least 256 megs. I have a 2.4Ghz Pentium with 768 Megs of RAM and it runs super smoothly with no lag for load time while game scenery changes.

Summary: it still shines
Review: Halo is the best game that was ever created, period.
Though some people might have problems lunching it on their system, it is because the system is NOT strong enough for that game.
Microsoft still cannot decide how much of a minimum CPU power the game requires. In the readme they put 733MHz, and on their shopping store, they put 933MHz.
To tell you the truth, it is still not enough, the minimum is somewhere in 1500MHz's. That might seem a lot to handle, and that is probably one of the reasons posting a lesser CPU value.

So if you decide to go Halo, (which I strongly recommend) make sure that it's above the 1.5GHz mark. And the more memory you have (more than 128MB) the better you'll be. So if you are running Win XP which it self requires 128MB plus the Halo 128MB then the minimum Mem for you is 256MB.

Verify that you do have that power before spending your dollar on the game. It would just be a shame to have the game and not be able to plat it without the savemode.

Summary: Halo has the most bugs ever... for any game....
Review: Athlon 1300
384MB Ram
ATI 120MB 9000 video
XP Professional

It was bad enough a year ago to find out that Halo was going to be for XBox before PC. So when I finally got to buy it, I installed it and I can't play it without going into "safe mode" for the game. I updated all drivers and still it crashes my computer. This is the WORST game I've ever not had the chance to play. I won't be buying any more Microsoft games until I read reviews first. Save yourself and go buy something else instead.

Summary: This game is terrible
Review: This is the worste game performance I have ssen. It slows down so much you can't help but to just turn it off. Your money would be better off used to start a beach party bon fire. This coming from Microsoft go figure? I will never buy a Microsoft Title again. It Overwhelms your system so much, all the ram and graphics power you throw at it wont help. Please pass it up. Mine is going up for sale for what ever i can get for it.

Summary: Lots of Fun
Review: This is a review of the single player version, so if you are mainly interested in multi-player, you should skip to the next review.... I am actually playing Halo through for the second time, on a higher difficulty level. I played through the first time on Normal difficulty, and was able to complete the game in maybe 30 or 40 hours.

I thought the graphics were great, especially the outdoor scenes. I found myself wandering off from a few fire fights just to take in the view. The first set of enemies you fight, the Covenant, were unique and funny (at least the short ones were). They are pretty smart, and like to sneak up on you, lob grenades at your feet when you're not watching, etc. But the short ones also like to run away screaming in terror from time to time. The difficulty level of the game ramps up evenly as you move forward. Although I had to replay most levels several times to move on, I never had to go to the internet to find the "right" solution, although I was close to doing that a couple of times.

I liked that there weren't a lot of secret areas to find and puzzles to solve. There were a few tricky spots where you had to figure something out, but the solutions were usually obvious even to me, and I'm really bad at puzzles. And the tricky spots fit into the game--I never felt like I was being asked to solve an arbitrary puzzle just because the game designer liked puzzles.

Being able to drive/fly vehicles was a nice addition. I especially enjoyed driving the Warhog and the tank. The controls for those vehicles were intuitive and were pretty much the same as what you use to move around on foot.

I also liked the way player health was handled. Because you have a force shield, you only take damage once the shield is depleted, and the shield regenerates after about 5 seconds if you haven't been hit during that time. I often left behind healing packs because I just didn't need them. I also finished several levels with just one health unit left, thanks to the energy shield.

On the down side, I thought some of the levels were a bit too repetitive, and they didn't flow together quite as seamlessly as Half Life's levels. In a few cases, not being able to save the game at an arbitrary point became *very* painful. Only being able to carry 2 weapons at a time was a definite pain. And the second set of enemies you fight, the Swarm, didn't seem appropriate to the story. They were more like zombies. These issues didn't keep me from enjoying the game, but they did cause me to give it 4 rather than 5 stars.

In general, I feel I got my money's worth from the game.

Summary: A good loking shooter...with a few problems
Review: First off, the game looks great. The setting is a smaller version of Larry Niven's "Ringworld" and it rendered in a grand fasion. I was taken back by the view of one of Halo's giant lakes from one of the alien buildings, truly stunning graphics. However, Halo is not perfect. There are problems with the 3D sound on my computer, sometimes the dialog fades in and out.

I was tempted to give this game 3 stars, until I got to the part where I could drive the tank. Now that is fun! Finally, in a game where you have a few weapon choices and those few carry a paltry amount of ammo (The human assault rifle is the worst, it holds about 30 seconds worth of ammo, the alien "needler" takes about an entire clip to kill one enemy), I got to use something that had some real teeth. I was laughing out loud when I fired off that cannon into a group of baddies on a bridge and they literally flew into the air screaming, now that's firepower.

Also, the frag grenades are great, especially indoors they pack a decent punch. Another star can be added due to the game's vehicles. The tank is the best but I also enjoyed driving the ATV and the alien flyers. The sniper rifle is always fun to use and is the most effective hand-held weapon in the game.

Alot of people complain about the lack of the cooperative multiplayer option in this version. Since I don't do multiplayer, I did'nt miss it.

All in all, Halo is a good shooter with great graphics and a decent storyline.
