Summary: Don't get this expansion
Review: I played the game Civ 3 and the game works very well. I have not had any problems with the program crashing at all. I then buy this expansion pack and the first time I play the game with the expansion pack, the game crashes on me! I have tried loading the auto saved games at different save points but it does nothing for me, it still crashes. I then downloaded the April, 2004 patch for this expansion pack and the game still crashes! I wish I could return the expansion pack to the store and get my money back and just play the Civ3 game without any expansions. Hopefully they will iron out more of the bugs in the future, until then, I won't play this anymore. There is no point to playing a game that I can't finish.

Summary: Conquering Civ3
Review: While maintaining the majority of the original Civilization 3 game, Civilization 3: Conquests adds new civilizations for you to chose from, new wonders to build, new improvements and terrain, and conquests and much more (250 additions by Atari/Firaxis' count). Additionally, if you've never purchased the "Play the World" expansion it's included in this latest pack.

If you were to look at the laundry list of new items in the game you might say to yourself "oh, same old, same old," which, and I'll be perfectly honest here, is quite true. The game play is almost the same as the original Civ 3 title, yet the subtle changes to the game keeps the game much more interesting to play. You're given more options in how you would like to develop your civilization and new strategies to explore.

While I've had a tremendous amount of fun playing Civilizations 3: Conquests, I can't help but which Firaxis took the genre even further with more detailed country controls and details that would really bring about more of a simulation feel to the series. Regardless, Civilization 3: Conquests is quite worthy of the money spent on the purchase, and if you're a fan of the Civilization series, I highly recommend it.

Summary: If You Love CIVIII You MUST Have This Expansion
Review: The Conquests expansion for CIV3 combines all of the features of the unfairly maligned PtW expansion as well as a whole new set of wonders and features specific to this package. The look and feel of the game with the Conquests disk is about the same as the original CIV3, however, there are so many subtle enhancements in the expansion that it would be impossible for me to move backwords and still enjoy the game. I have read reviews saying that the expansion is buggy, but I have had NO problems at all and haven't needed a patch to have hours of fun.

PROS...
*Upgraded AI for a more challenging computer opponent
*New civilizations! Sumerians, Byzantines, Maya, Portugal and many more along with the new cultural proficiences (seafaring and agrigultural) add a new dimension to the playing experience.
*More units! The TOW Infantry and Mobile SAM are awesome. Upgraded bombardment means a strong air forice and cruise missiles function much better.
*Sugar, Tobaco, and Tropical Fruit have all been added as terrain bonuses.
*The new wonders are very good, especially the Statue of Zeus

CONS...
*Price...this is a lot of money for an expansion. $14.95 or $19.95 would be more reasonable.
*Some of the new functionality only works with the built in scenarios.
*The Temple of Artemis Wonder takes a long time to build and then expires shortly after it is built.

Bottom line? If you are a CIV3 fan then price isn't really and issue because we all know the value you can get from this product with limitless replays and hours of fun. If you like the game then how could you not add the new CIVs, Wonders and units? If you are new to CIV3 then I would wait until you play the game and see if it is for you before buying this expansion because it is a bit pricey.

Summary: The Incas at Last!
Review: Greetings:

I was pleased greatly with this expansion. It fianlly added some civs that had benn blatantly ignored despite their days of greatness.

I am annoyed with this so-called bonus disk that never appeared. It must be totally mythical.

It is the best game I ahve evr played in my life, on a computer (except for Alternate Reailty of the late 80s early 90s).

At least Civ III, isn't a pushover like Civ II was at deity. The added intricacies in this expansion have only added to the fun and tension of the game.

Summary: My .02
Review: caose's review is pretty much correct. I'd only add a couple of things, its possible to mod using the editor & allow tribal government in a normal game.

Is also possible to add the Austrians (Charles V) to the game. Austria is a hidden civ that comes complete with all the leaderhead files. Unfortunately the editor is hard coded to allow only 32 civs. So in order to add a civ, you need to cut someone.

Highly addictive game, especially once you start modding.

Summary: Amazon needs to decide to support the Military or not
Review: My husband and I are stationed overseas and he was interested in purchasing Civ3 expansion. Of course our lovely BX does not carry it and doesn't know when or if it will have more later. I decided to purchase it from Amazon and was told it is only available in the US. I asked customer service and they told me over half of their products that they sell are unable to be shipped overseas. Military addresses have certain rules about some items but this item is not one of them. They told me that they do have other software that is available to ship. How dumb is that?!

Summary: A trustworthy addition...
Review: A terrible thing happened a while back; I got bored of Civ3! How could this be? A game that can be played in so many different ways. What was missing? Well I think "Conquests" has the answer. It provides above all, realsim. Realism is what I was missing. The novelty of the Zulus building ICBMs was wearing thin and I wanted to take part - Civ-style - in a grand event of history that I knew was REAL. What "Conquests" boils down to, neglecting the fact that the "Play the World" expansion comes with it, is a collection of excellently made scenarios ranging from the fall of the Rome to the building of the Great British Empire and the Napoleonic Wars. This last one being notable for the chance to play as arguably the greatest empire ever (The British Empire) and the chance to kick French ass! A self-confessed geek for history, I love re-living these golden ages on Civ. Any fan of the series will welcome these scenarios and be able to appreciate the quality of them; even those who favor playing sprawling epcs on random maps will want a change sooner or later (just like me) and this is perfect for that. So get to it. Give our friends, the British a hand at Trafalgar and see if you can better the glorious empire they had. Difficult? Yes.

Summary: I love this expansion pack
Review: The new civilizations alone make this worth the price in my mind but add in all the new governments, the new civilization characteristics are all great too.

But the new and improved Espionage interface it is worth its weight in gold.

The advisor window for cities can now be sorted by any column including what the city is producing is great. And last but not least the Histograph is replaced by a much better interface as well.

If you love the game the way I do you will love this expansion.

Summary: HUMAN SACRIFICE is NOT ok for 6 year olds
Review: A great, classic game series has joined GTA in the moral sewer.
I hope everyone will demand a replacement without this.
If murder - even fantasy murder - can win a game, that game is not fit to sell.
In contrast, Civ III had reached new moral heights for the series by capturing workers rather than executing them like many other games.
I was a real fan since the original CIV.
I never admired any nation that practised mass murder; why do they think any civilization would? Please keep this out of the reach of children.
