Summary: Very pretty but
Review: It's very pretty. When it runs, that is. Which isn't often. I had so much trouble getting past the CD's security system that Microsoft eventually recommended I install the NO-CD Crack out on the web.

Running the game with sound on usually brings a computer-stopping crash one in every two missions. Turn the sound off and it's as dull as ditchwater.

The missions are quicklly dull and repetitive, despite flying from some very exotic locations. Landing on aircraft carriers is harder than it should be, because the aeroplane begins to waddle and sag around the sky like a soggy 747 at anything approaching landing speeds. That's just not realistic.

Many small ground targets are just completley invisible.

Despite being very pretty to look at in terms of cosmetics, it's too far short of having a reliable, interesting gameplay. I'm fed up with computer programs, particularly games, that simply don't work. I couldn't recommend you buying a car that only completed one journey in every two, so I couldn't recommend this program, either.

Summary: Good stuff, Maynard
Review: I'm a longtime civil-jet flight-simmer (started with FS95, back in the stone age). When my wife bought me this thing, I really wasn't sure I'd like it. After all, flying this sort of one-lung antique seemed to pale in comparison to easing the mighty 747 -- queen of the skies -- into the air. But I haven't touched FS2002 in about a month, and my virtual airline is about ready to fire me.

But dang, it's so much fun.

It's an amazing challenge to get hit in the right wing, for example, and have to adjust your trim, tactics, etc. to compensate for the extra drag and loss of control surface. All while trying to dodge streams of tracers from behind and below. After managing to catch the wire on a flattop, with your ship decorated with about 200 bullet holes and no hydraulics, landing a 737 at ORD has become ... well ... boring.

OK, the crashes aren't spectacular, but frankly, in the wake of 9/11, I don't want my plane crashes too realistic anyway. Microsoft seems to have struck the right balance between realism & frame rates.

Speaking of frame rates, I'm using a 733 Mhz Dell / 630 MB RAM (sic) / 64 MB nVidia TNT2, i.e. not exactly a bleeding-edge computer, and my frame rates are pretty darn good (25/30 fps).

Tip for all you youngsters out there: get the Saitek joystick/throttle combo so you can stick with your left hand and throttle with the right -- those all-in-one stick/throttle things *bite* for real flightsimming. And between missions, pay attention to the dialogue; maybe you'll learn something about the incredible sacrifices your grandfathers made for you.

Anyway.

Nice clean install, no big bugs that I've noticed (maybe, just maybe, Microsoft is getting this "software" concept figured out!)

Highly recommended.

Summary: Contact-Damage-Crash Modeling Very Weak
Review: Many have given this a thumbs up for realism. However, there is a category of realism which is sorely lacking in this game.

Microsoft would do well to go back and replicate Jane's WW II Fighter's contact, damage, and crash modeling. There is _no_ comparison. With Jane's, planes are segmented into fuselage, cockpit, stabilizer, rudder, engine, and wings.

In Janes, I have seen a plane crash land, and watched it's front end (engine) detach and cartwheel over the landscape. I've seen planes crash land, tear through ground targets, and demolish buildings in their wake. Another gamer said that while in a dogfight with Janes, they had their cowling blown off, and he saw parts in motion under the hood.

THIS is realism. This you won't see in MS Combat Flight Simulator. Simply put, Janes' contact, damage, and crash realism is FAR superior.

Much of MS CFS has great realism. But, in this category of realism, it is VERY poor.

Summary: fair product
Review: I found the product to have poor graphics, "comic book quality." It was a big dissapointment after having used the original combat flight simulater which had better graphics, it has less detail but is more realistic.

Summary: World War Review
Review: This game has it's pros and cons. The graphics are exceedingly done with very intrequite pictures and scenes. Some computers can't have Flight Simulator 2 because the graphics and coloring is to good for the computer. I've expierienced it.

This games pros are that you can lock on to bases or ships although it doesn't auto-target them. If you hit a cerain button then a big yellow square will go around the object you have chosen and keep track of it's location. Also when you lock on to it, on the top of the screen it tells what you've just locked on to.

Another pro is that it's not only starting, taking off, flying, and landing. You actually get to fire missles, drop bombs, shoot at people, etc. It has no bounderies.

One of the few cons in this game is that it gets a little dull after a while because it takes over an hour to complete one mission. (My mom always kicks me off by then.)

This is a great game. Oh no! I've been shot I'm going down.

Summary: Exciting and adventurous
Review: I have had this game for some time and beaten most of the levels, but the graphics dont match CFS3. It doesn't have as many planes as in the new CFS3 but it really gives you the chance to fly these WW2 Pacific Theater planes. the only part I dont like is constantly flying over the Pacific unlike 1 and 3 which can be flown all over Europe. If you want a medioker game, and just want to shoot down enemy planes, I suggest buying Combat Flight Simulator 2.

Summary: Great Flight Game!
Review: Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2: Pacific Theater is a really great game! I received this for my birthday, and I love it! Being able to see all the planes in WWII is really interesting. You also are able to takeoff from some famous airfields during WWII. This game does work the best with a joystick, so I would reccomend getting one with this game. You can fly campains where you can be American, Japanese, British, and something else, I can't remember. It is also fun being able to fly when your plane is hit, because it has real life consequences, if you get hit in the engine you see smoke come out and your plane goes slower, etc. You can even eject, but sometimes the paracute doesn't open so then your in trouble! This game would be great for someone that is into history or into airplanes. Overall, this is the best flight simulator that I have ever played.

Summary: Fun shoot em up flying game
Review: This is a good WWII flying shooter with great graphics and easy controls. Works fantastic with my Sidewinder 2 Force Feedback stick on a PIII 1.1 GHz Win XP system. Also plays well on a 1.2 GHz Celeron system with integrated graphics running Win XP. This is not a game that you can play hours on end for days and feel like your getting challenged. Pull it out occasionally as a break from your other games and it will keep you occupied happily for several hours. At the current low price it's an easy addition to your gaming library.
