Summary: Perfect Price-
Review: $5 each game not bad.. Triple DVD set comes in way oversize but striking box.
1. I have never played MYST-it looks promising, but the graphics seem primitive, thus making it hard for me to REALLY be there.
2. RIVEN is the true Masterwork-the thought and time that went into this make it a one of a kind Adventure-The graphics are near 5-Star quality, with most being near Photo Realistic, and even the lesser rendered objects look believable.
3. MYST 3-I got this in great anticipation only to be VERY let down-I was thinking that if RIVEN were near perfection, graphics wise-then 5 years of computer progress would have the sequel looking spectacular.
NOPE.
The graphics look so cartoonish as to be laughable, I half expect Bugs Bunny to hop out from behind a bush.
The story, and "feel" seem like some Madison Avenue types were in charge of the project-it just doesnt have a good feeling about it.
Finally, the tag-line: "THE PERFECT PLACE TO PLOT REVENGE!" seems laughable as the world of MYST seems a more intelligent and peaceful place, and even if it were called for-I suspect that this world would have far more advanced ways of dealing with disputes/crimes.I hope some day a 2-disc RIVEN MASTERPIECE EDITION comes out, with even smoother graphics, more detail (bigger bit budget) and UBISOFT awakens from its slumber, and makes it OS X native.
This edition JUST came out, yet OS X has been with us for what, 3-4 years? And to add insult to injury, MAC users have to install, BY HAND, the files to make the games work. Also, it would be nice to be able to load the whole program onto your Hard Drive, so as to be done with the Discs altogther, but it is set up so that you MUST have the discs-none of the VOB files are present to copy over, as they were in the RIVEN DVD of a few years back.
This is the what, 3rd incarnation of the MYST Collection?-lets hope they can get it right the next time.

Summary: Works for me!
Review: Don't let the complainers scare you away. The 3-DVD collection is fantastic, and I had no technical problems at all. I replayed Myst and Riven like it was the first time, and look forward to many more times. Don't blame Ubisoft for skipping Win2K. It's a terrible games platform anyway. If you want the DVD experience, maybe it's time to upgrade to XP. If not, stick with what you have and don't complain. If you've never tried the games before, now's the time!

Summary: Some of the most thought provoking games ever!
Review: I am using Windows ME and have encountered absolutely NO technical problems using any of the games in this collection. MYST - What can I say. Classic. The music is very grainy, and the sound is distorted, but the puzzles are as fun as ever. Do not buy this game if you do not want to think a lot. MYST provides a break from all those action games that you see now days. RIVEN - Also great. Although it is still in slideshow format, the game is still great fun. The puzzles are quite a bit more challenging than MYST. The graphics are super photorealistic, and you could swear that you could just touch the screen (or page ;-) ) and be there. Music is great. EXILE - I rather enjoy being able to look anywhere I want to in this game. EXILE features a lot more interaction (through holograms) than RIVEN did. It also features somewhat of a moral battle, although I will not go into that here and will leave it for you to find out. The only thing that I dislike is the fact that the ages appear to be completely uninhabited (aside from the sabatoge). Even though they were just created for Sirrus and Achenar to learn, I still feel that they would sustain SOME damage in addition to the sabatoge (or maybe that is damage), knowing their personalities. The Making of Movies I enjoyed much more than the interview.
Overall, a great package if you want to get into the MYST games.

Summary: All is not lost even if you have Windows XP
Review: I bought a whole new ($1,600) computer just to play this set of Myst games, but I found that Myst and Riven do not install under XP Pro. But I'd kept my old laptop and it had Windows ME, and Myst installed in 3 seconds! It's a 733mhz computer too! I'm very pleased with the speed of the transitions. So if you've hung on to your old computer, use that instead! Good luck!

Summary: Do Not Buy!!
Review: I bought this set because I remembered how great the original Myst was...Big Mistake. Installation went fine, but the actual gameplay is horrendous. I am using a computer with resolution capabilities of up to 1600 X 1200, and at this setting, the game window is a box that can be covered up with my thumb. Ubi Soft made no effort to warn anyone of this, or provide a way of changing the resolution. Boo. Two Thumbs Down. This is a great game in theory, but in practicality, it is very poorly done. I consider this purchase a waste of twenty dollars. Consider these points, and research the game before you decide you truly want it.

Summary: It Only Works on Certain Systems
Review: I could not have been more thrilled when a DVD version of my three favorite games of all time came out in 2003. Both "Riven" and "Myst III: Exile" were a whopping five disks a piece for play on a personal computer; with the new DVD format, they've been reduced to a single disk. Much more manageable, methinks. And then I was even more thrilled when I received this gift set, along with "Uru: Ages Beyond Myst," for Christmas. Santa Claus had indeed checked my name twice under the "nice" heading. So imagine my disappointment when I discover that this gift set only runs on Windows 98 and Windows XP. What a joke. Why does Windows 2000 constantly get the shaft when it comes to computer games? Nothing works on that system; none of my Windows 98 games install, and Windows XP software is constantly hit-or-miss. Thinking I could make it work anyway, I installed the "Riven" DVD onto my system. Surprisingly, it worked and everything seemed to be in order! But then it wouldn't boot. The start-up screen would appear, and that was it. When are computer game-makers going to realize that millions of people have Windows 2000 and that we'd like to play our favorite games on it? I love "Myst" and "Riven" and "Myst III: Exile." They are the only games I have ever really played again and again. I can't say much about "Uru: Ages Beyond Myst" because, even though it is designed for Windows 2000, it still doesn't boot. So now I have two Christmas gifts that are worthless unless I get a whole new system with Windows XP. Please, please, PLEASE, people! How hard can it be to make a game that runs on all systems? This would include Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, XP, and whatever else I'm forgetting. It is highly annoying when something will work on Windows 98 and Windows XP, but will NOT work on Windows 2000. What, was Windows 2000 just an afterthought in the gaming industry? It's kind of like the middle child - always neglected. In short, I give this set three stars because I love the games so much. And that is the ONLY reason it gets three stars. The fact that it doesn't work on Windows 2000 is pathetic. With as many versions of these games that have been produced over the years, you'd think the makers of them would finally have gotten it right with an ultra-cool DVD release. Guess I thought wrong.

Summary: Great Games==Lousy Format
Review: I got these games for free from Amazon because I bought URU-Ages of Myst. I'm glad I didn't pay for them, because they don't work at all! Myst doesn't play on OS X or OS 9 on Mac, or Win 2K on an Intel platform. Exile doesn't play either. Hey, maybe it works on XP, but the games were all fabulous when I played them the first time and I was hoping I'd have them all in a single package, compatible with modern OS's. No such luck. Stay away unless you have Windows XP.
