Summary: Beautiful!
Review: This is the most awesome Star Trek game ever made! It is really cool to be able to control a massive starship, and the graphics are perfect. BUY THIS GAME! It is very straightforward, and the AI is killer!

Summary: PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!
Review: This is the worst game ever! They make up weapons and races to try to make a stupid game interesting. It has no relation to The Star Trek Series. The missions are boring, take forever, and then you loose. If you are able to stay awake through a mission the rewards are rather lame. This game is sorry.

Summary: Starfleet Command
Review: This was ok, but you keep repeating the missions over and over again. The game play could be better. The graphics were ok too.

Summary: Errrrrrr
Review: Well, bugs, bugs, an more bugs ! Fun game to play.....a little bit on the boring side at times. Game play is ok, interfact is good ( read the book!) But it a WAY TO EASY to "win" I give this a high rating because it is fun to play, an I am a big fan, but this is a game that people should take a little time with an make sure that they get the updates.

Summary: A waste of money
Review: What were these people thinking? It's yet another pitiful game title from Interplay. It has far too many bugs to be anywhere near enjoyable. All the facts about the ships and weapons is out of date and incorrect. The Interface is also far too complicated. I strongly recommend that you don't buy this game.

Summary: 3D Combat on a 2D Plane
Review: While this game does provide very nice graphics, it doesn't offer much else. One annoying 'feature' is that the Klingon interface is in Klingon, the Gorn interface is in Gorn, etc. which may be fine for Trek Heads but most of us humans will only be able to read the Federation interface. Once you get accustomed to which controls are where and/or you learn the keyboard shortcuts the gameplay is smooth and easy, but it takes time to just to learn the interface.

The multiplayer game setup interface is also quite awkward to utilize. Unlike other games which have one player click "host" and then the others simply join that game, this product has one player hit "select" then "host" then "announce" while the other players click "select", "setup", "join" - why are other players "setting up" a game! While this isn't a show stopper, it is annoying.

Another critical failing of this game is that the ships can only fly in two dimensions! This *IS* space, right? Granted, the game is modeled after the board game which only allowed two dimensions, but why not allow the computer to do what it does best and add the third dimension?

Besides the above, the game does have excellent graphics and offers great multiplayer action (especially which each player taking a different race). Star Trek fans will love it and I suspect the board gamers will like it. However, it falls short of its potential.

Summary: A fresh look to an old genre
Review: While this game has it's problems, I'd have to say it was hands down the best game of 1999 that I purchased. It captures all the best elements of both the old Starfleet Battles board game and a real time strategy computer game, while wrapping it up with excellent graphics, sounds and a fresh, new look that should please old fans of both.

Unlike the old Starfleet Battles, the ships have been redesigned to have a more current look, rather like those seen in the movies. The weapon effects are well done, and the damage algorithim stays true to the board game...though, for some insane reason the torpedoes for the Federation only hit about half the time.

While the interface can be overwhelming due to the amount of control you have, the designers put in a pause feature that lets you issue orders and set up for combat in relative peace. This comes in handy.

The biggest gripes I have with the game are the poor mission breifings and the mindless wingman A.I. The breifings are next to useless, and will leave you feeling frustrated and confused. The wingmen you can have are worse than useless. Not only will the not follow your instructions, many times they will shoot up targets and destroy them after you've expressly ordered them not to, loosing the mission for you.

Despite it's flaws, I still think this was a great game, and look forward to a new, improved "gold edition."

Summary: An update...
Review: You may have read my other review giving this game a wonderful review. Well, to be honest, after about a week this game gets very old. The battles become predictable, as does the AI. Now that I have had this title for a while, I think it was a wast of my money. I do love Star Trek, but this game get old really fast, so beware of spending the money for this game, and don't just buy it for the cool graphics, either.
