Summary: Decent gameplay, engrossing storyline -- like BG but better
Review: You've probably read about how much story and text Planescape throws at you. Some might consider this a bad thing, but I can vouch that all of verbiage they give you is GOOD. I knew this was a different, better kind of game when I started out in a mausoleum filled with zombies. Not just repetitive undead attackers, though -- each zombie had its own description and characteristics, and for the first time in a game I got the feeling that these undead were actual former people -- very creepy. Farther on you are exposed to the troubled pasts of the main character and his cohorts, but not all at once; your companions react to each other and the things that happen to you. Talk to them periodically and different options open up. Not to mention all of the existential issues that are explored with the main character, who is immortal but can't remember his past incarnations. Some people have noted that maybe P:T presents you with too much storyline, and doesn't let you role-play enough, but there is still ample opportunity to affect your character's standing both with your stats (wisdom is important even though your character can only be a fighter, mage, and thief) and with your actions within the game.

Then again, if all the text bores you, you can probably just ignore it and play through a worthy successor to Baldur's Gate. It's obviously very similar in gameplay to BG (same company, same engine), which includes the good (strong combat engine, good graphics, great sound and music) with the bad (iffy pathfinding, and sort-of non-linearity, except you are obligated to do most of the unrelated side quests just to build up enough experience to get through the main quest). BG is a good game, and is definitely longer than P:T, but I liked Planescape better anyway because of the atmosphere the story added, and because there was always something compelling for your character to do (unlike BG where sometimes you were just clearing out area after area).

Summary: Wow, well worth the hype
Review: Fantastic game... what you want it broken down? OK

The Infinity engine is fantastic, and they updated it a bit to make it even better. The good? Well, look at it! The graphics are beautiful, the interface is intuitive, and the gameplay overall is great. The bad? Well, the character idle animations (what they do when they have been sitting still for a while) seem to take precident over any other action. Many times I would click on a character and have them perform an action (like attack someone or move) but if they had already started up an animation, they would just sit there and get hit.

Now back to the kudos... The best thing about this game is the story. It is very compelling, involved, and mature. I frankly am tired of games with scripts aimed at 6 year olds (see recent Final Fantasy) and gameplay that is so laughable by todays standards that you think you were transported back to 1985. This game had great game play, terrific plot, and superb graphics and sound. It was a bit linear, but even then it seemed like everytime you opened up a section of the game, it opened up the universe. Side quests were entertaining and often funny. The character interactions were often very amusing. Mort was a great character. I highly recommend this game, and further recommend that players dive right into every aspect of it. If you take the time to develop your characters with the plot, you will not only be rewarded with great story, but great abilities for those characters as well.

Hail to king baby, this game is bringing back RP from the kiddy cosole posers out there!

Summary: A great game!
Review: A wonderful story and really intresting charecters. Here is my pros and cons

Pros: *Magnificent 3D graphics from Black Isle studios, creators of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale *Not-your-everyday charecters, such as a floating skull, a walking-and-talking suit of armor, and a woman with a tail(a.k.a. tiefling) *Game play based on D%D 3rd Edition Rules *Powerful enemies such as Wererats,Wyverns,Zombies,Ghouls, and Street Slugs

Cons: A small game, only 900 MB and 4 cds Bird-eye view means medium sized land Only can have 5 other charecters in your party

Still, not that bad. A good game for D&D fans!

Summary: A writer's RPG.
Review: This is an RPG with style. In fact, it has more style than all the other Infinity Engine games combined. The story is creative, enthralling, and very astounding. The characters are original and highly interactive. You can see that a writer designed this game.

What is not happening in this game is combat and action. The player is going along for the ride instead of taking a direct hand. There is also not much customization. Character creation is simplistic with only a meaningless choice between three different classes that don't make any difference over all.

Still, it's a good game for those who are cerebral and don't have an itchy trigger finger.

Summary: Greatest RPG in gaming history to date
Review: I normally don't write reviews for things, but I decided that I had to make an exception in this case. I have beaten over 30 RPG's in my years of gaming, and this one is the greatest ever. If you're thinking of purchasing this one don't think just click the "Add to cart" button, you won't be tormented by the decision believe me. What will happen is that you will be drawn in to a darkly haunting RPG experience that is very artfully crafted and the most ingenious twists you could never imagine (well maybe you could). The characters are strange and unique, the ambient music is very gracefull and blends so well with the backgrounds that it is pure cinematic bliss. Kudos to Black Isle for this experience. I am only sad that this story will not be continued. I was mildly disappointed in Icewind Dale, and Baldur's Gate 2, after having played through this one. Sure the others have multiplayer support, but this one is a must have for the nights when you need a great story to haunt you dreams. See ya cutters out there somewhere.....

Summary: Planescape: The realm of chaos and order
Review: It was the best ad&d adaptation I played since 1991. Planescape is the best realm that such a story could occur. A Forgotten Realms adaptation of the same story would probably fail. It is an incredible storyline that forces the player to see what fate is expecting nameless one. It is one of the few games that I literally became the hero. Addictive! Fallout and Torment are the best RPG's i have ever played in my life!

Summary: Dazzling
Review: This game ranks with Fallout as the best RPG out there - yup, even better than Baldur's Gate II.

Summary: a must buy! interesting and emotion inducing
Review: after wasting my money on baldurs gate (a game i just couldn't quite get myself into) i decided to give Torment a try. i was not disappointed this time. a great story with twisting plots, spectacular characters, and one of the best game music soundtracks i've ever heard, makes this probably the best rpg i've ever played on a computer. if you like rpgs at all, i strongly recommend giving this a try, it won't look like much at first, but as you get further into the game, you'll become so involved and concerned over it, that you won't be able to leave. well, maybe not THAT much, but it is a remarkable game.

Summary: Extraordinary
Review: It is unfortunate, in one sense at least, that the technology of computer games improves at such a rapid pace: this makes it improbable that this game, unlike some classics of literature which were largely ignored upon initial publication, will ever enjoy the status it so richly deserves. It sets a new standard for Computer RPG's- the dialogue, graphics, and music are excellent, as is the NPC interaction. Most impressively, the storyline is the richest and most involving of any game I've ever played. If you're a fan of Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale, give this overlooked gem a try.

Summary: A great RPG
Review: Unlike most Japanese RPGs, there is no turn based combat, but rather real-time. The soundtrack and art are unbelievable. Filled with subquests, magical items and NPCs. Hours and hours of great gameplay placed in the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Planescape world. A musthave for any RPG gamer.
