Summary: might be the best rpg ever
Review: planescape torment should come with a warning -
Play it and get ready to wait for years till another comparable game comes out.
honestly i've not found an rpg that was even close to this diablo 2 and beyond divinity were the best of the rest but not 75% as good as this.

Note: both those games are slashers and if you're more interested in levelling up and gore than story, immersiveness and beauty of gameplay - then go ahead and buy those.

back to planescape

#1 the story and immersiveness is beautiful.
a side effect of rpgs is going back to the world with the sense of 'where the heck did the last two weeks of my life go?'
and feeling a strange sense of regret.
well with Planescape - nah, there's no regret - none whatsoever.

#2 beautiful art work and graphics
the level of detail is painfully nad lovingly done. the sheer beauty hits at you.

#3 awesome gameplay and quests
there is an incredible amount of variety and a few amazing features
- change your character from thief to mage to warrior anytime
- really really well developed companions
- the brothel of slating intellectual lusts
- never die

this game is incredible - one of the things you must do before you die provided you're an rpg fan

Review: The most off-beat RPG ever. Nothing has ever been quite like it.

Summary: Purely Amazing
Review: What kind of game can you write a paper about for English class, and still get a perfect grade on the paper? This kind.

What kind of game will have you thinking about it and replaying it for years at a time? This kind.

What kind of game will leave you literally praying for another game that rivals it? This kind.

Most of Black Isle's games were really good, but Planescape: Torment is nothing short of a masterpiece. The lush gameworld, the extraordinarily intricate character interaction, and the terrific plot are all things that we have seen before and are likely to see again. But, Planescape leaves you with something even more than a pleasant gaming experience; it leaves you with an entirely new perspective on life. Without being brazen about it, Planescape demonstrates that tiny actions, miniscule decisions can change the nature of the universe; it also shows the affects of what I believe to be the most painful emotion within the human experience, regret. At the same time as all this, Planescape is successful at being a remarkably good game, and it isn't preachy at all (in case you're worried that philosophy will override entertainment).

This game is close to godliness; definitely my favorite game of all time. Highly recommended.

Summary: One of Black Isle's Finest
Review: This game is a true triumph of design. The story is the most inventive, unique one I have ever experienced on the computer (let alone in literature.) It is worth playing time and time again. The characters in it are also the best I have seen on the computer, from a talking, floating skull to an animated suit of armor striving for justice. The game play lives up perfectly to the fantastic setting and story. Your characters each are very different. One gains much of his power from the increase in power of his sacred sword which levels up with him. Your main character also increases his abilities in limitless ways, from purchasing back an eye he lost countless lives ago to switching on the fly from a mage to a warrior. This game while not perfect is just about as close as you can get (the 640 by 480 set resolution being it's largest flaw.) I recomend this to anymore who has the slightest intrest in roleplaying games.

Summary: atmospheric, original and addictive
Review: This is PC gaming at its best: it has a huge replay potential, as well as lots of humor, killing, magic and a large number of quests. One can play this as an evil person, or good; a fighter, magic user or thief; physically strong, smart, or a combination of both. I've played this game 4 times, and each time I chose a different path, which resulted in a different outcome each time.
Overall, this game is in my top 3 of all time.

Summary: Still An Outstanding Game, Everytime I play
Review: One of the best games anyone could get their hands on!
Each time you play you can choose a diffrent route to explore!
A must have for any RPG player (or in my case an x-RPG player)
I am most disapointed that there is no sequal.

Summary: Move over bible, this is the greatest story ever told
Review: Wow... Wow.... Wow...

This was the only game to ever truly make me.... go wow.

Sure, Deus Ex sparked some emotions, Baldur's gate made me think, and Xenogears got me replaying a few times, but never have I stared at a computer screen for ten minutes thinking about the game after it was finished.
Firstly, those in need of some more hack n slash or freedom, try IceWind dale Or Baldur's this is not that kind of game. Unlike other d and d adventures, this is linear, which is a good thing. Secondly, the emphasis in the game is not on combat. Most of the game can be solved through logical thinking, in fact, most of the time you're rewarded more experience for choosing the non violent method of play. While some would say the that would be a bad thing, with the rich story of the game, it's actually quite fun.
And thats another thing, never has a story been so rich and intriguing at a first glance ( the only other thing that comes to mind Is system shock 2... or 1 I geuss) everything about the story is great. When I first met up with some of the important characters in the game, I was intrigued, and actually waited a while, instead of trying to get out as fast as possible ( Ravel...). When important question we're asked, I actually took a small break. I would ask my friends what they whould choose, I would think about it myself, I would go over all the options, and even when I choose one, I would often question if I had made the right choice ( ravel's question...)
The combat in Planescape is pretty simple, but fun in it's simplicity. Baldur's fans should feel right at home ( if not finding combat too easy) and people new to d and d should have no problem getting used to combat.

Anyway, If you like games at all, you must buy this, steal tyhis, dowload it, whatever. It's a shame that a game and company that redefined what I believed an rpg could be has fallen apart. Good buy Black isle, we'll all miss you.

Summary: Amazing! An underappreciated classic!
Review: Wow, I can't believe I let myself put off getting this game for so long. It is just amazing. It's not often I can get hooked on a PC RPG because they tend to have too much of what feels like filler. Black Isle's Baldur's Gate changed that with a much bigger emphasis on story than earlier PC RPGs but still had its moments that dragged. Planescape, on the other hand, has one of the most addictive and compelling stories I've seen in a RPG in ages. If you've missed this one so far, don't pass up on it any longer.

Summary: "How Can One be Immortal yet Still Die?"
Review: You play the Nameless One as he begins his journey of self discovery. You awaken on a slab in a mortuary with a floating skull who goes by Morte. Morte reads you a crypic note tatooed to your back and thus begins your journey. Oh by the way, you're an amnesiac and an immortal.

A lot of the game takes place in Sigil (aka: The City of Doors, and the Cage) a circular city on the top of an infinetly tall spire at the direct center of the multiverse. Sigil contains portals to everywhere in the multiverse...so its a pretty imortant place. It is run by a mysterious woman known as the Lady of Pain. She is very tall, floats above the ground, and is enshrouded by blades. You do not want to meat her. If you make her mad or even worship her, she'll either maze or kill you.

Your journey to find out who you are will take you from the slums of the hive, to the depths of hell on Baator. Along the way you will meet some very interesting people to help you along. Among them are: Fall-From-Grace (a succubuss), Dakkon (a Githzeri), Vhailor (A dead Mercykiller whose spirit still inahbits his armor), Morte (a funny fl;oating skull), and many others. The voice overs are all top notch. Some of the best are voiced by Dan Castellenta (the simpsons) the voice of Dakkon is done by the man who plays A.D SKinner on the Xfiles.

The story line is top notch. Mixing in philosophy with life, death, and belief was just plain genious. Once you get into this game you will not want to leave. AS you go along your journey you will unravel more of your character's past lives and what kind of people he once was.

This game really earns the M rating. Not for being inappropriate. It just deals with MAture subjects such as life: Life, Death, Torment, Belief, and relationships with others. Torment is a recurring theme.

Once I reached the end I was sad my journey was over. I wished it were longer so I could have kept playing. I wasn't impressed with the ending when I first saw it, but as I thought about it, it made perfect sense and was a perfect ending. And the dialogue with Ravel and during and After the dialogue with the Transcendent One was marvelous. These guys are talented!

Pick up a copy of this best game ever and join the many who have undertaken the jounrey of self discover, belief, and their own torment.

Summary: Old, but good!
Review: Planescape is one of the best games I've ever played. It seems a bit one track at first, as you can only play one character, but that is just so they can add awesome split screens with the character talking, and doing other stuff. You have almost full control. You can choose stats, similar to the method in Neverwinter Nights, (for those of you unfamiliar, it uses a point buy system with Advanced Dungeons and Dragons rules) and you can choose class, and faction. There are maybe 5 different endings, and one of the best plots I've ever seen. It's pretty old, but has great graphics for its time, and is a very good game.
I have beaten this game several times, but it is good enough to draw me back to try for a different ending, a different faction, or even just a different party.
I have played (and own) most D&D based RPGs for the computer, and while the new ones have many more features, I would have to say that Torment is definately still my favorite.
