Summary: fun but extremely slow
Review: Sim City 4 is a lot of fun and has fixed many of the problems with previous sim city games like the ability to build on hills, and the opportunity to create a much larger community by linking cities. The buildings and graphics are also much better. There are tons of more buildings and awards in sim city 4. The only down side is the game speed. Even at the fastest game speed it becomes very iritating at how slow it takes even when your city is small.

Summary: Very detailed and entertaining!
Review: This game is very detailed and I like how Maxis made the move to 3D. The disasters are very fun to control and are also realistic. The only thing I have to say about this game is that it's a little buggy. A new patch will probably fix it.

Buy it!

Summary: A forward backward step.
Review: Sim City 4 has these Pros and Cons:

Pros:
Outstanding Graphics
Landscape "God-mode"
Realistic looking terrain
Expansive world in which to create multiple cities and work them in unison.
Import "The Sims"
Stunning disasters (check out the lightning bolt!)
Best Mayor interface ever
Lots of cool features like beaches, new landmarks, and people actually build on cliffs this time.
Whenever the website is up, you'll be able to d/l scenarios.

Now for the Cons:
No Building Architect tool.
Buildings are not exchangable or customizable.
The website Simcity4.com is behind schedule.

Be forewarned:
At the release of Sim City 3000, we all jumped on it. It was great, but with the arrival of Sim City 3000 UNLIMITED, the first was rendered moot. A lot of things couldn't be done in 3000 which could in Unlimited. The website was a strong point for getting new scenarios and buildings and uploading your own.

Sim City 4's intial release seems like a step forward, but backward. I'd wait a few months and see if an Unlimited or Unleashed version comes out. Wait until the websites is ready. I'm sure there is more to it than this basic game. Sim City 4 is like 2000 & 3000 without some perks and with some gorgeous graphics. Simply, the game is fantastic, yet incomplete.

Summary: Good game, many issues though.
Review: The game itself is pretty good. However, apart from the graphics there is no difference from SimCity 3000. The game is the same.
The graphics are pretty good, even though they can make even high end machines slow down. The details are amazing.
The music is pretty tiresome and sounds are pretty much non-existent except for the annoying "Dong" when you place a building somewhere.
The gameplay is, well, repetetive. You place a living zone, then a commercial one, some factories, then again, and again. Once I got to profit I just left my city do whatever it wanted to do. For 2 hours it just gave me money. Nothing happened. For two hours, the game played by itself.
And then I tried to save. Guess what - my PC crashed. After that I restarted, tried a new game, attempted to save and it crashed again.
And the issues are just starting with this. Personally I had no other problems but people complained on forums. For some the game wouldn't load at all. For some the shadows of the buildings would stay. And more and more.
Anyway let us get to the point of the review - is the game worth it? If you like city-building games, yes, deffinately. But be careful - the game is hardly the most stable game I've ever seen. You might want to wait for a patch before buying.

Summary: What a disapointment
Review: I don't very often wait on pins and needles for a new computer game, but I couldn't wait for Sim City 4. The hype was all about incredible graphics and a great new engine.

Well, it was a bunch of hype. It's buggy as hell, slow, and the graphics are sometimes worse than Sim City 3000 (pipes for instance). I have a kick... system, so I don't think it's a confict with my hardware either. What happened Maxis? I loved SimCity 3000.

I am hoping they come out with a patch soon...cuz this [isn't good].

Summary: Simcity 4 - Great, but .....
Review: After months of waiting I got my copy of Simcity4 last Thursday night (9th Jan). I live in Hong Kong and the release here came before the US (or perhaps the store shouldn't have sold me the game until the 14th, but not my problem)...

Anyhow... the game itself is fantastic, graphics are great and there is a shedload of potential with region play, instead of just city play. It is also quite cool to watch your sims go about their lives in your city. There are however two criticisms. One is, I think, a result of limited PC resources and should be alleviated by playing in an online region, while the other can be corrected by good download sections on the Simcity site.

My criticisms have to do with the limitations caused by the region mode. FYI, Region mode puts your city ina region, say New York, in which the map is made up of about 50 cities, all available for you to develop. This is great because you can create and play as your city's "neighbours". The problem though is that the cities you create in your regions do not appear to grow or change while you are not playing them, accordingly, if you want to play mostly in mayor mode (similar to the old simcity), you have to keep changing to the other cities around you to keep them sufficiently built up to provide markets for your chosen city. This is probably an unfixable problem as I can only imagine what kind of PC would be needed to keep track of and provide constant AI for 50 growing cities at a time (especially since to allow you to be able to play them they'd have to grow properly... with roads, buildings etc etc, rather than just being basic statistics)... accordingly, this game will be much better played as part of an online cityscape which I hope will be there once the game is released worldwide. Perhaps, however, the developers could have provided an option to have the old style simple neighbours for those of us not as interested in the extended region play.

The other part of this problem is that the game does not ship with any pre-made neighbour cities (except for a small town or two in the London and Berlin regions). This makes starting out mighty difficult because your city is on its own until you do something about it. For those who have played before, this means no selling power or water to neighbours or taking their rubbish to bring in much needed seed capital, and also, your Commerce and Industry do not appear to benefit as much from connections, unless you go out and create those neighbours yourself (which brings you back to the same problem and takes hours of slow painstaking town building).

I hope that the full website (not yet released due to the earliness of my copy of Simcity4) will help to alleviate these difficulties with lots of ready to import neighbours and online region gameplay... I'll wait and see because once that problem is sorted, this game is going to be one of the best ever!
