Summary: A little disappointed...
Review: I am a really big fan of RCT1 and all of it's expansion packs. I play for hours on end. I was very excited about the new RCT2 coming out, however now I am now disappointed. RCT2 was not necessary for what they did to it or didn't do to it. It might as well have been another expansion pack for RCT1. I played for it for about two weeks (giving it a shot) but I am back to RCT1, it's a much better product!

Summary: THE BEST ROLLER COASTER GAME EVER!
Review: This game was so great. When I first got it I couldn't stop playing. You won't be sorry if you buy this game! Old timers should check out Amity Airfield in the challenging parks catergory. It's pretty awesome! Buy this game as soon as possible!

Summary: Roller Coaster Mania!
Review: If you were a fan of RCT1, RCT2 is everything you ever dreamed of, and more!

First, Infrogrames took all the cool things about the first edition, and made sure to repeat them in the second. When you launch, you will see familiar challenges and scenarios, and once you start, there is that irritating but ever present merry-go-round once again. How many of you went to sleep listening to that music in your sleep? Yeah, I know, turn it off, but something insane about me thinks it isn't RCT without it.

So the basic format is the same, new lands, new scenarios. Let's move on to the good stuff. First, my favorite, favorite, favorite part of RCT2 is the Roller Coaster builder option. One thing that frustrated me in 1 is the inability just to build rollercoasters. They've taken care of that, and you have access to all the coasters without worry of land or cost to stop you from building. I've made some absolutely horrible coasters that I'm sure if anyone really rode them, their heads would explode! I spend more time in the Roller Coaster designer now than I do in the scenarios.

In the scenarios, major imporvements have been made. So many more rides are offered, making for truly a fun theme part designing experience. You have an ability to alter the enterance/exit booths to fit certain themes, different colors for the waiting lines, signs to add, more themes. It's simply amazing.

And quite the memory hog! I must say my poor PC is sputtering a bit with RCT2. I'm in the process of upping my RAM to play the game smoothly. Although I can run it, the major theme parks are difficult to browse around in. However, knowing what Magic Mountain in California looks like, I was very impressed with the recreation!

So, I must say that RCT2 is one of my new favorite games. I highly recommend this program. Does it have bugs and issues? Of course. Name me one program that doesn't. But if you enjoy software that allows you to creatively design theme parks in a fun way, you'll rush out and purchase this right away!

Summary: Amusement Park Employees love this game!
Review: Ok, this is a great game for any person that loves roller coasters. I've been an amusement park employee for years now and when the original RCT game came out, I was depressed that the operation of coasters wasn't close to real operation.

When RCT 2 came out, I was impressed with the idea of the block brakes that can now be added. I was able to build coasters that operated like the real coasters I operate in the real world. It's great.

The physics of the game are real, the operation is wonderful, and what you can do with this game is endless. I would definately recommend it to amusement park people that have always wanted to create their own park.

The fun on the game definately increases with the internet. There tons of sites out there that allow you to upload your own creations and download other peoples creations to compliment your park.

Summary: Simply the Best
Review: Theres not much that hasnt been said-Great Graphics, Gameplay and In my opnion it got a whole lot better then the original version. In the Six Flags version, it unlocks lots and lots of rides that would take a long time to get in the original. Also (my favorite feature) you dont have to unlock one level to get to the next...if you want easy its there...if you want hard its there...I think the 2 best features are 1. That the levels arent locked and 2. More rides! This is the ultimate for the tycoon fan. Randy

Summary: Create your own scenarios
Review: Pros:
- Support for Windows 2000/XP.
- Online manual.
- All scenarios can be played immediately. One does not need to earn their way, as the scenarios are no longer grayed-out like they once were in the original series.
- More challenging scenarios. Some require 3,000 park guests with 600+ park rating by October Year 4, while others require $10,000 in monthly ride profits, or $1,000 in monthly shop sales.
- Added architecture so one can create buildings and the-like around rides and paths. Now, your park can look just as polished as the ones on the welcome screen.
- Allows extra wide paths. No more lost guests and crowding is drastically reduced.
- New rides.
- For those who enjoy using pre-built coasters, the cost is now provided so one can determine if there are enough funds before being charged for clearing.
- Saves tree removal effort. Unlike the previous edition, the shrubs and such disappear the moment you plunk down your ride. No more mindless clicking with the mouse.
- A HUGE button (a red toolbox) on the main screen for Scenario Editor, Convert Saved Game to Scenario, Roller Coaster Designer, and Track Designs Manager. From a programming perspective, this is the next best thing to open-source. In essence, the lack of pre-built scenarios is abolished. The user has the opportunity to create endless scenarios with endless possibilities.

Cons:
- 26 pre-built scenarios (85 pre-built offered in RCT+Corkscrew Follies+Loopy Landscapes)
- Six Flags plugs littered throughout RCT2.

Overall:
For those who just want to sit down and play, the lack of pre-built scenarios will be a deterrent. Those with the creativity and the time to make the tools worthwhile will be hooked. This is still the best simulation game available.

Summary: Easily Entertained
Review: If you played RCT 1 and you like these somewhat actionless but highly thought provoking games, you'll like this one too. This game is not for the Grand Theaft Auto set but instead caters to those who like to think through their Simulation games. It's not difficult to learn and play, and it offers endless option and tasks to carry out to make your park friendly, clean and something your little folks want to visit.

Go wild with your own roller coaster design but not too wild, if it doesn't pass testing, you should'n open it or risk harm to your park visitors, is the park getting messy with trash and puke, hire more handy men to stay ahead of the mess, do your visitors need to pee, build a bathroom, is the price of food and goodies too expensive, set a more reasonable price. As you can see, this is micro management at its best.

I can't say enough about the look and play of this game, but I can say that if it's shoot em up fast paced action you're after you need to find another game. If I could add one feature to this game to possibly make it better, it would be a front car view of what it would be like to ride your rides, other than that, I suggest you give it a try. I bought this as a Gold Box special for about [$$$]

Summary: RCT2 not worth a separate game nice expansion though
Review: RCT2=RCT w/ loopy landscapes + six flags parks (who cares), more roller coaster types (...'configurations' presented as types bloats up number of coaster types), partial scenario editor (somewhat cool), track designer (somewhat cool; better if they were combined), new bugs (not cool - some rides don't post test results and therefore unridable; no patches ever released), and a much higher altitude limit (totally rad - 400 foot vertical coasters!).

Summary: The sequel to the most popular game has came out.
Review: Infogrames decided not to make an expansion pack to Roller Coaster Tycoon, but to make a sequel to the original.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 has tutorials inside the game so for those of you who never played Roller Coaster Tycoon doesn't have to worry. The main feature of Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is that the map got bigger than the original version. The original version was 128*28 but Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is 256*56. Basically, it got twice bigger. Also, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 has lots of themes. You can build your own park using jungle, jurassic, space, or ghost theme. There's even more. You can meet the real roller coasters of Six Flags. For examples, 'Deja Vu', 'Medusa', 'Chang', 'V2', 'X', and 'Titan'. The part that I was disappointed was that it didn't have new brand features. Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is not different from the original version, except that the graphic got a tiny bit better. If you are one of those fans who love Six Flags and roller coasters, I highly recommend this game.
