Summary: RT3 rules!!!
Review: RT3 is by far the best in the Railroad Tycoon series.
This game is visually stunning and has really challenged
me in the past couple days...and nights. I have had
absolutely no problem with the install or copy
protection that some reviewers speak of. Finally a
game I can sit down with the kids and play.

Summary: Railroad Tycoon 3 Is The Best
Review: So, you think that all those other games you bought kept you busy? Think of RR3 as the "BOSS" of games. The creators of this game have evolved 110% ahead of the competition. The Sandbox mode allows you to play for hours (I am not kidding!!) and the challenges will make you want more every time. You'll need a amazing processor for this game. Unlike RR2 you'll go into movie mode and remember all those times in RR2 where you had to manually do stuff? RR3 does it all for you. If you like games than this one is one to own, you'll never regret the purchase you'll just want more time off from your job to play!!!-Enjoy.

Summary: WARNING! Copy Protection Scheme prevents installation
Review: The copy protection prevents installation on my machine. I am not alone. I have also read that there are problems for people who are able to get the program installed. I understand the problems with Piracy, but to put down big $ for a game that won't install is the worst.

Summary: More fun than RT2 and it's 3D now
Review: They have taken a lot of the busywork out of the game. You spend more time working on your routes than trying to micromanage the cars. You can manage down to the car level if you wish but game does pretty good job of matching up cargos. You can set the min/max cars per train per station. Overall play is pretty similar to II. 3D effects are really good, you can zoom down right into the trees and buildings. Great new feature, you can click on a train and ride along. Great to have a birds eye view of your train as it rolls. Worth the price of game by itself. I have spent quite a bit of time just watching... and not tending to the game. I think it is a solid improvement over RT2. Be careful, it's addicting.

Summary: Unbalanced and unfinished
Review: This game has great potential, make no mistake about it. The economic model is a great idea, it creates a much more immersive environment. Cutting out micromanagement in my opinion was also a great idea, but I guess that depends on whether you're a big picture strategy gamer, or the micromanaging control freak. The new 3D engine looks cool, even though graphics are secondary in strategy games. By now you should expect a but coming, especially with two stars, so here goes. While the idea of true economic model is good, it is implemented all wrong. This creates for very unbalanced game, where one approach beats all scenarios, and there isn't any challenge to keep you occupied after the first 3-5 years of the game time, the game beats you by boring the hell out of you. There are also unprofessional screw ups, like the AI player that almost never challenges you and eventually goes bankrupt, or the fact that AI players like to buy electric locomotives, but somehow neglect to build electrified track, and electric locomotives tend to run poorly on Flintstone power alone. After you play this game for a while, you start wondering whether there was any beta testing done at all, there are so many things that should've been fixed way before the game was released. Pop Top has to go back to the drawing board and introduce some major changes in the patches before I could recommend this game, it's a mediocre rush-job in its present state. I would also be wary of buying any future Pop Top games without conducting extensive research beforehand.

Summary: Not as much fun as I thought it would be!!!
Review: This game I guess is alittle too indepth for me. Too complicated, and when your trying to get it started, you seem to run out of montey too fast. You never know if you have people on your trains or not, you don't ever see people, and that is something I was hoping for. My most favorite tycoon game of all time is Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection...the graphics are the best, and you can see the people no problem. I think I had myself alittle too excited for RT3, and got let down. Overall, I think it was just alittle too complicated....heck, I even let my older brother play it, who happens to be a tycoon nut, and he didn't even care for it, and he's 32.
I was also hoping that is was something that my kids would enjoy playing, but it's not even something they would understand or enjoy..my son hates it. It's just too advanced for kids....and maybe even alittle for adults. I think if you are a savy business person, then you would probobly love this game, but I am not, and that is where my problem comes in....Oh well....

Summary: Best Ever Business Sim
Review: This is a great business sim involving realistic issues of supply and demand, investment, the stock market, etc. Much better than games like Capitalism or Startup (that one's probably out of print).

I also like it better than Tropico because there are victory conditions. You know whether you did well or not in Railroad Tycoon and you can work to improve your performance. In Tropico, as good an economic sim as it is, too often you feel like the game just ended without any particular success or failure.

And aside from the business sim issues, the railroads and historical context make it fun on another level.

It is not, however, for kids (as one reviewer suggested). The stock market element and the semi-complicated supply and demand issues would be way too complicated for even a nine year old.

Summary: Great game
Review: This is a really great game for a railroad "sim". I highly recommend it for anyone with an interest in railroads or financial type "sims" or model trains. The game has excellent graphics, however once you get a lot of trains going at once (100+) it starts to slow down alot, and I have a fast computer (3 Ghz). However, I wouldn't let this stop me from buying this excellent game, as you can lower the graphic resolution and improve game play. I was successful playing it even on a 400 Mhz celereon.

It is a very interesting train game that I enjoy playing again and again so it was well worth the money.

Summary: WON'T INSTALL
Review: This program will not install on either of the two computers I own. Both far exceed the minimum requirements listed on the box. I took it back, obtained a new copy (thinking I had a bad install disk) and it did the exact same thing. I love the railroad tycoon games, but this one just does not work. If you buy it, beware.
