Summary: Even more info
Review: Reviewing the other reviews, it sums things up pretty well I think for this game. It's definately not a game for everyone, which is true for just about any game. If you expect it to be the same as other RPGs out there you've played, that's probably going to set you up for disappointment. It's not like other RPGs out there. Most RPGs are heavily story oriented and as a result, are very linear. Morrowind also has story, and the story is quite linear as well, however where Morrowind really shines is I think is when you get away from that. It's also an extremely open-ended game. You can just ignore the main story-line and go wondering off to do your own thing. The game becomes more of a fantasy world simulation then, and this is what tends to appeal to the gamers who love this game. If that doesn't really appeal you, then you may want to pass on this game. In other words, this game is for you if you want to be in control, rather than the story-line. Maybe the best way to decide this is to consider how important the story is to games you play. If you think story is very important, you're probably a story oriented gamer. For myself personally, I prefer to watch a movie when I want story, and play games to have more control over things. Hope that helps you decide if this game is a good match for you.

I also wanted to point out the huge mod community that exist around this game. People often complain about aspects of this game (NPCs look terrible, gets too easy later on, going up in levels occurs too quickly, etc). Some of these people do something about it too, though, so mods are available to address these complains. So that's something to factor into your decision as well. The amount of mods out there are very impressive, and the mod community is still going very strong.

Summary: Okay
Review: Scores out of 10:
music - 9 - pretty good, not too repetitive, i liked it
graphics - 8 - alright, fairly good for computer, but not amazing or anything
controls - 8 - they're easy to figure out and they work well.
story - 6 - okay, it's somewhat creative, but not explained very well.
gameplay - 6 - it's a little confusing to know what to do. and it's just not very fun or rewarding to play.

overall, this gets about a 6 or 7 out of 10. it really isn't good as all those 5 star reviews imply. i didn't enjoy it, it just didn't flow very well. and it's too bad it's not multiplayer, that would make it much better. the world is just so large, it's easy to get lost and it's irritating trying to find a person or place. i've seen several better games for free, i don't know if i'd pay so much for this quality - or lack of it. but you may want to check it out, if you're an rpg fan.

Summary: Buggy, lousy docs, overly complicated, but amazing graphics
Review: The graphics in this game are great. The music and sounds effects are quite good as well. If they fixed a few things, this could really be an awesome game. I am shocked that it has received such great reviews given all the problems it has. Perhaps their standards for what constitutes a great game are much lower than mine...

Here are several of the shortcomings of this game that I have found so far:

First of all, there is no useful documentation. The manual (and I use the term loosely) is a joke. Most of the things you need to know are missing completely, others have only a brief comment in the manual, but no details, while other things that make little or no difference whatsoever in the game, have an entire page of detail. You simply have no idea what you are supposed to be doing. Within the game, the rules are not explained, and there is no tolerance for breaking them. Every interaction with other people in the game is based on how much they like you, so most mistakes are completely unrecoverable, forcing you to save the game before making any choices. You are constantly given conflicting information and instructions, with no hope at all for figuring out who you should trust. My advise is to save the game a lot! Unfortunately, more often than not, you don't realize the error in your ways until much later (kind of like buying this game...).

Second, the game is unbelievably slow. Every 20 seconds or so of moving in one direction, the game freezes with no mention of what it is doing as it loads the next segment of the map. After about 5 seconds, you regain control. This also happens every time you enter or leave a building, even when in a town. This makes exploring towns a painfully arduous task. I am running the game on a 1.8 GHz P4, with 768MB of RAM and a GeForce2. While this obviously isn't the best setup in town, it is a far cry from the recommended 800 MHz P3 with 256MB of RAM printed on the box. I can't imagine anyone playing for long using the "recommended" system...

Thirdly, the game crashes constantly! I can't believe how frequently this game crashes. I have been playing for about 10 hours now, and I can honestly say the game has crashed at least 20 times! This is by far the most unstable game I have ever played.

(Forthly?) The user interface leaves quite a bit to be desired. I have sort of gotten used to it now, but it could still use some serious work. The combat system, however, is absolutely terrible. You have almost no control. You just click wildly with your mouse and hope for the best. You have a little cross- hair to aim with, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. The only way you have any chance is if you are a lot stronger than what you are fighting. And if you get attacked by more than one monster at a time, forget it. Also, almost every monster I have encountered so far has been considerably faster than my character, so running away isn't an option either.

The last thing I am going to mention is the complexity of the game. Maybe there are people out there that are looking for a game that will completely take over their lives for months on end (or two years according to a previous review!), but for the average gamer, this is simply over the top. In order to be successful at this game, you really need to have a second computer running Excel just to keep track of everything (ie: people, training locations, points of interest, quests, etc...) as well as a notebook to make town maps, etc... in.

To rate it by element (out of 5)...
Graphics -- 5
Music -- 4
Sound Effects 4 (but they get really annoying after a while, especially the voices)
Story -- 3
User Interface -- 3
Stability -- 2
Documentation -- 2
Combat -- 1 (the worst I have ever seen)

If you are looking for a first person Fantasy RPG, I would strongly recommend that you take a look at the Might and Magic Series by 3DO instead of this. Might and Magic 6-8 were great. Although 9 was a bit lame, it was still better than this game.

Summary: To die for
Review: This 1st person rpg is the largest and most fun game I have ever played. It is a huge world, and there are no limits as to what you can do. I can almost assure you that you will love this game. the only problem is that it is very bugy, at least on my computer. Still the best game i have ever played.

Summary: One of the Best RPG's I have played
Review: This game has everything an RPG should have. You get to choose from a lot of different races, then completely customise your skills. It takes a while to get the gist, but then it is a very great game. I highly recomend this game to anyone who wants a good RPG.

Summary: Holy Crap! I need help
Review: This game has forced me to re-evaluate the necessity of things like laundry, eating, sleeping, and everything else I should be doing instead of playing this game. I don't have the GOTY edition but am reviewing it because there is no reason why you wouldn't buy this one anyways.

First off, this game is HUGE. Don't expect you'll dump 20-30 hours into it and be done with it. I've wasted multiple weekends and weeknights in this game. I don't have the expansion packs yet either. From what I've heard you're looking at easily 100 hours of playtime, to say nothing of the expansions.

I will do the bad first:
I would have liked a better journal system, but word is the expansion pack has fixed it. Sorting by unfinished quests should have been there all along.

A major bug that I have with this game is that it likes to randomly crash to the desktop with no error messages. POOF! I have grown accustomed to pressing quicksave a lot, and thus it's not so bad. Support said to use software sound and the latest soundcard drivers. No dice. I don't even care. Still play it like it's going out of style.

The good for last:
Graphically I'd say this game is not bleeding edge, but it holds up quite well anyways. It is by no means unpleasing to look at. It's especially acceptable if you have the graphics power to raise the detail settings.

Character development here is off the scale. There are attributes for tons of skills such as alchemy, speachcraft, athletics, and many differnt types of weaponry. Leveling up is not based on just shwacking opponents. It's about increasing the attributes. This is a novel concept worth repeating.

The best feature is the freedom. You can more or less opt to do what you want and not do what you don't. You can decide to walk off anywhere and just goof off. Depending on where you walk you may get hammered early on, but you can go there anyways. You can be nice to people, or go on a wild killing spree, but there are certain people that need to stay alive to make completing the game possible.

Overall, this game is easily in my Top Ten games ever played. I'd say it's a safe bet that this franchise will see another game in the future, and I hope that it repeats the winning qualities of this one. Since this game has been around a while, the affordability factor alone makes it a must to pick up. Enjoy.

Summary: Awsome...
Review: This game is great. If you like games with depth, this is your game. Hundreds of 'books' you can acually read about the game world. You can also play the game without even trying to follow the main story by just doing what you want to do. Join factions or explore the world, it is all up to you.

And in addition to a huge game world, the game comes with and editor so you can build new areas/worlds if you like.

My suggestion is that if you are going to play this game, block off your calander for about a month.

Summary: OH MY GOD!!!!
Review: This game is one of epic proportions that will keep you in your seat for the whole time. I have spent over 1000 hours on this game, and I have done only about 1/3 things that there are to do here. Absolutely amazing graphics, awesome gameplay, in-depth story line, hundreds of weapons, items and armor. quests, people, all is included in this game. AWESOME!!!

Summary: Morriwind wins my five stars
Review: This game is the greatest masterpeice of technology and hard work I have ever seen. I wil not go into detail, as that has already been done in the other reveiws. But the sheer infinity of items, skills, weapons, armor, enemys, and the fact that the main story doesnt even have to apply to you have gotten this game five stars and a G.O.T.Y. award. My favorite activity is to trap wild creatures with soultrap, a spell that lets you capture a soul, put it in a soulgem, then enchant any items you have with a spell effect like fire damage. Here are my statistics of all aspects of the game. (on a scale of 1-10)
Graphics-9[]
The models for the characters and monsters are slightly what you would call blocky, like the arm slides up off the shoulder when the person moves. But the textures and effects are perfected.

Music, S.E.(Sound effects), Etc.-8[]
They are perfect, the best music you could have on an RPG. But, they start to repeat after a few hours, like when you have alot of health and your fighting and you make the same noise over and over when you get hit.

Creativity-20[]
The absolute best imagination that can be displayed in a game. Thousands of items, NPCs(Characters), towns, creatures, all with different names!!

Gameplay-6[](with mods, 7)
The gameplay is...unperfected. It can become extremley boring if you are trying to make it to a faraway town or person. If you are using mods, it can be entertaining to just oblitherate everything in your path, then set your crime level to 0 when you reach the person. And fighting is completley retarded. You just click the mouse and hope you kill the dude. You cant use any kind of stratagy.
Well, there you go. Overall, it gets an 8. I strongly reccomend this game to any RPG fan.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I would give this more than 5 stars if I could!
Review: This game REDEFINED my definition of a good RPG. One of my favorite aspects is that the player is not relegated to a "third-person" view. That is, the player directly controls combat, instead of issueing vague "attack" commands. The graphics are incredible, unrivaled even by Neverwinter Nights or its expansions. The sheer DEPTH of the gameplay is startling. You can pick up plates from a table, steal pillows from a bed, fight fish in rivers, you have almost unlimited interaction with your environment. In short, this game has beat out, stomped, and dominated every other RPG (even newer ones) that I have ever played. Buy it now or die unfulfilled.
