Summary: very good
Review: the single player experience is excellent with all the stops pulled out. I rate it 4 stars instead of 5 because of lack of replay value. Once is great, a second time is ok, but beyond that the game is old. It's a one shot experience but a very very good one.

Summary: fun but short
Review: This game is so fun. best star wars game I ever played. You can pick your party membors. customize your party. customize weapons and build your own lightsaber. My favorite thing though is that you can be dark or light. Its fun to be dark!! But i beat it in 5 days. I had so much fun playing it that i was so upset when i beat it i didn't play computer for a week.
bottom line. Fun, addictive, but short.

Summary: Very immersive!
Review: This game rocks. The story is very immersive and there are plenty of subquests.

Just a few notes for whom it may concern:

1. If you can't start the game then go get the latest drivers for your video card. I had just bought a 9800pro from Radeon and used their install disc. It didn't work. Then I went to their site and got ATI's catalyst version 4.4. Afterwards it worked fine. The downloads are free, and the two sections on ATI's website were 12 and 8 megs. The third section was for web TV and I didn't get it.

2. Secondly, and this is my only con for this game, you can't assign your arrow keys for movement! I can't understand why I can't use my up, down, left, and right arrow keys instead of using letter keys or num pad keys. Go figure.

3. This isn't really a con, but simply a clarification. The fighting system is a bit different than you may be used to. When an enemy is sighted you click on them and then the system takes over. It continues the action until the enemy is defeated or you manually interrupt it. This will take some getting used to. I rather it be a straight up turn based or real time, but this combination type system the game has is fine once you are accustomed to it. You may either hate it or like it depending on your personal gaming style.

Nevertheless, once you're used to these quirks and get into the story then you quickly forget about these other things.

That said, I think you will really enjoy this game. If you are a Star Wars fan, or just into 3d immersive action/adventure with a RPG twist type games, then this is your kind of game!

On a final note. The system uses directX 9.0b. If you don't have a card that can run that then your not going to be able to run this game. So check on this before you buy the game.

Summary: AMAZING
Review: This is easily the best roleplaying game experience I have had on the PC. The interface is incredible, the puzzles interesting and plot-driven, the action exciting. I'm a big fan of all Star Wars games but this is definitely my favorite so far: a must have for any Star Wars or RPG fans.

Summary: FUN!
Review: I've played a lot of games that are great time-wasters (and believe me, this is a good one ;-)) But this has got to be the funest game I've ever played.

Totally immersive, true to the heart of Star Wars, and completely open plot -- anything goes. You can be the knight in shining armor, or completely wallow in the depths of the dark side. And you're free to change your path at any time (it just takes a little work). I love how the more depraved you become, the more monsterous your character looks and postures (and the reverse is true too).

This game handled all my SW fantasies. Trained as a Jedi, double or dual sabers (my choice of colors and style), every force power you can think of, sweet-looking gear to wear (robes, visors, weapons), fly in a ship, smuggle, fight, dual, play cards, be a spy, hack into security, upgrade and maintain droids, force persuasion ("these are not the droids you're looking for"), etc.

Great voice actors, beautiful scenery, a love story (for both genders), and maybe even a "Luke I'm your father" moment thrown in for good times.

If you have the money and liked Star Wars -- I swear you'll fall in love with this game.

Summary: No Good If It Won't Even Start!
Review: Can't get the game to *start up*. I downloaded & installed the latest patch for the game, and all my drivers are up to date. DirectX is the most recent version. I have a new ATI Radeon 9200, which the retail box says is a compatible graphics card.

This has become all-too-common in the PC games industry, releasing games that don't work on certain video cards, etc.

According to many reviews, this is a really cool game, but it's not too cool if it doesn't run at all! LOL Now I've got to see if I can get the manufacturer to refund my money... wish me luck!

RESEARCH WHETHER YOUR GRAPHICS CARD IS COMPATIBLE BEFORE YOU BUY THIS GAME!

Summary: Star Wars fans: Get this. Gamers: Get this.
Review: BioWare first proved their skill in creating computer roleplaying games when they released the original Baldur's Gate years ago. They have since refined their techniques, improving nearly every aspect of their games with each release.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (henceforth KOTOR) is the culmination of everything they've learned since their early days. KOTOR has a tightly focused story complemented by plenty of side quests along the way, and it is that very focus that, for some--self included--makes this game superior to the much-hailed Baldur's Gate 2. The story itself is an epic but cliched effort in true Star Wars fashion. It's predictable, but it it's not lacking in emotional power, and despite the fact that this game is set millenia before the Star Wars films, it feels more true to the spirit of the original trilogy than either of Lucas's prequels.

On the technical side of things, every line is voiced, as BioWare has constantly bragged. This is deceptive, however, as at least a third of the conversations are with aliens, and most aliens speak in their language--in other words, though their lines are voiced, it just sounds like gibberish, and I suspect there were just a number of generic sound files for alien lines. That said, the human voice-overs are excellent, the best I've ever heard in any game. Some are certainly better than others, but characters like Candor, Bastila, and the assassin droid stand out with nearly film-quality voice acting.

The game is based on a heavily modified version of the engine used in Neverwinter Nights, "Aurora". The graphics are adequate, but not remarkable in comparison to games like recently released shooters (Unreal Tournament 2004, for example). The real problem is that the Aurora engine is showing its age, and no matter how much they modify it, it's going to run like crap when they use models, textures, and effects of this quality. It's just not designed to support this number of polys, and you really need a great system to run this game. Or an X-Box. Heh.

The interface is clumsy in some ways, but better than its predecessor (Neverwinter Nights) in others. The inventory system is awful and obviously designed for a console, and the action queue is a little too limited for my tastes. The interface also suffers from the removal of the assignable hot keys that made Neverwinter Nights so easy to control. That said, some innovations, such as including the various attacks, force powers, and grenade throws as buttons over the selected target, are very welcome and convenient. The interface more than anything else shows that this game was designed for the X-Box, but it was still adapted well enough for the PC, and is overall pretty easy to handle (despite some minor frustrations).

There are few significant bugs, and patching the game gets rid of virtually all of them.

Having played through this game twice, once as a Light Side character and once as a Dark Side, I can highly recommend it to anyone who remotely enjoys Star Wars or computer games. It was named Game of the Year by many respectable publications, and for good reason. If your system can handle it, buy KOTOR. If your system can't, buy an X-Box and get KOTOR. In fact, this has the added bonus of getting you ready for BioWare's next great RPG: Jade Empire, an X-Box only title being released at the end of this year.

Knights of the Old Republic stands as one of the greatest RPG releases since Baldur's Gate 2, and one of the best games in recent years. BioWare holds their place as the king of the computer RPG crowd, and KOTOR is just further evidence of their mastery.
