Summary: This game rocks!
Review: First of all, the physics are not terrible. The game doesn't have "auto-aim" like RTCW, plus if you move AT ALL, your accuracy goes way down. This is visually represented by your crosshairs, which widen when you are moving to reflect the wide spread of possible bullet locations. When you are stationary, your crosshairs narrow to almost a pinpoint, so you can have deadly accuracy.People who say, "I run across an enemy and empty a clip and they drop me with one shot" know nothing about the game. You can't hit jack while running unless you are quite experienced and learn both how to work around the bullet spread factor as well as your own personal lag to the server you are on. As for planes, most of the good pilots come from flight sims, and call the plane physics and controls adequate but overly simplistic. Almost nobody says the planes are too hard, unless they are using old 1980's arcade games as their reference point. And as far as no teamwork goes, what sever are the naysayers playing on? I have no idea. The EA servers have friendly fire off, and the private servers usually have a moderator that will kick or ban troublemakers. The demo is fun and will give you an idea of the game's possibilities, but please note that there have been several patches which improve the netcode and adjust the weapons balance. Don't bother with the single player demo - the developers have said all along this game was written to be a multiplayer game. The single player mode is basically just for practice. The few bad reviews give a false impression of the game. Buy it NOW - but be prepared to be glued to your PC.

Veterans of EA's Medal of Honor series will be right at home with the basic setup; grab one of five kit bags, with appropriate weapons and equipment from Medic to Scout and trudge off to war in a variety of landmark WW2 battles. Where this game really starts to kick in is the quite spectacular scale of these engagements.
Fancy yourself a pilot? Hop into the cockpit of a Spitfire and...well...spit fire at the enemy from the clouds. Always enjoyed the rumble of heavy armor? No problem, find a shiny new Tiger tank with the keys in the ignition. Don't like getting your hands dirty? Swivel the massive guns of a cruiser and rain artillery on the baddies. There's so many amusing ways to frag your friends and neighbours you'll be hard pushed to find more variety in a 3D shooter. While Battlefield does include a limited single player campaign, its in the online realms that this game really shines. 56k modem users may scrape by in the smaller battles, but you'll need a higher speed connection if you really want to get the most out of this game. Battles can be up to 60 players, but personally I find the 32 player games hit the right balance between scale and teamwork...too many people, and you'll never find a spare tank to play with! Graphically 1942 doesn't really break any new ground...its certainly not as crisp and detailed as Allied Assualt, but more than makes up for this with the massive size of the playing areas. There's some nice details, such as the swaying trees and dust kicked up by tanks, but you'll probably be too busy ducking from .50 cal fire to notice. The sound is great, with the crackle of machine guns and the whine of dive bombers filling the air. There's also some nice animation from an infantry point of view, whipping out a new magazine for your Thompson carbine and slapping it home, or sneaking up behind an unsuspecting sentry and letting your knife do your talking. On the downside this is a game that requires a fair deal of cooperation to be really fun...you will find yourself out numbered and outgunned more than once because your smacktard team is busy queing for planes on the other side of the map. Things can get pretty dull in the single player campaign where the computer AI is sometimes less than helpful (fortunately there are several patches for this game that clean things up a bit)
But, when it all comes together you'll be whooping with joy as your tanks roll into the enemy base, supported by bombers and scout-directed artillery. The new Road to Rome expansion will certainly add new life to this game, plus the multitude of conversion mods that are available from the net, including the much talked about Desert Combat mod. There's just so many different ways to play, you'll be shaking your head with the scope of this title. It's so well balanced, from crawling through the bushes as a sniper to take pot-shots at artillery crews, to buzzing the treeline with your P-51 Mustang...from the squealing gears as your Panzer IV shifts its gun turret, to the frenzied house to house fighting in the dusty streets of Berlin. Everything you thought was cool about war movies is somewhere in this game...I recommend you lock, load, and deploy right now...

Summary: Good game with some glitches
Review: Right to the point, all the missions in the european theater seem to run smoother, than those missions in the pacific theater, for instance Battle for Midway,has very poor frame rate, mouse movement is very choppy. Ea take a look at this problem will you, because a lot of gamers think its their computer, but its not. NEED A PATCH ASAP: disabled military viet nam era vet. Peace: Romeo Henry Faison....a hardcore gamer.

Summary: Good Expansion, but low value for the money
Review: This expansion, is good, don't get me wrong. But it seems very lacking. There are very few things which are actually new. It just feels like it wasn't completed, every new map seems easily recreated if there were a map editor. And most of the weapons and vehicles, while true to their history, seems gameplay-wise, a remodelled version of what was already there. They also did not see fit to add in any sort of single-player campaign option for the new maps. Overall it's pretty good, it does expand the map repertoire of the best multiplayer game available, but it just leaves you thinking they should've done more for the $...

Summary: They did a lot of things right...
Review: This game provides the best internet multi-player experience to date. The only reason you wouldn't enjoy this game is if you didn't like shooters. (And even some people I know who don't like shooters liked this game...). Of course, I have seen some people rating the game low here because of hardware difficulties. Well, they got a point: You need a high-end machine to have fun with this. (Hint: If you do not have a high-end machine, make sure you at least download all the patches!) What makes this game truely great is the open gameplay and the number of options your have. You can do anything from walking aroudnt the battlefield, to driving a Jeep or tank, fly a plane, man an AA gun, and even operate aircraft carriers and submarines! And it is all easy to pull of! How about this: Take of with an airplane to torpedo an enemy aircraft carrier. Then, when you run ouf of torpedos, parachute into the water next to the carrier to climb up the safety net and snipe some of the crew. Then, move on to steel one of their aircraft and take off, just to bomb them with your own bombs before returning to your own home base where you switch into a Jeep to make it to the next stationary cannon to fire at an enemy destroyer, just to realize they have spotted you and taken out the whole facility with a precission strike... This describes a scenario I have played through.

Summary: Good and Bad
Review: When I can play it, its fun. And 3/4 of the time I cant play it. This is the only pc game in 6 years that I have bought that has given me this much trouble. Many times when loading a game it crashes to the desktop and the game just disappears without any indication of why it crashed. That becomes annoying very quickly. Now along with that, there are periods where the game goes into super slow loading times where the music goes in and out, in and out and takes about 3 minutes to load a game, if it doesnt crash on me. Another problem I'm having is when I do get into a game, and that game ends and goes to load another map, it freezes and just sits on a black screen. When I can actually play this game it is quite fun. The graphics are nice, crisp, and run well on my system (I have heard that it takes a fast computer to run bf1942). There are a number of vehicles to choose from such as tanks, jeeps, airplanes and battleships. The vehicles pretty much rule the battlefield and ruin the game for the people that like to play as infantry. I wish this game focused more on the basic infantry than on the tanks and planes. I cant say that this game is very realistic either. I'm no war expert but I know that when pumping 25 bullets into a human, from 10 feet away, they should die. And no I dont have very bad aim or ping. Other examples are that it takes three or more shots from the rocket launcher infantry to destroy a tank. Also the flak cannons are basically worthless when trying to take down an airplane. When buying this game I was hoping that it would be simialr to Day of Defeat. Boy was I wrong. It's more like playing Medal of Honor which is not one of my favorite games. All in all this is a solid game that will give you many hours of enjoyment. I would have rated this game four stars if I had not experienced all of these problems. I just hope that this game works for you.

Summary: Battlefield 1942
Review: This game has a new twist on first person shooters... vehicles, but Battlefield didn't just do vehicles, they did them right! The gameplay is strategic: you fight your way up to spawn points and capture them by taking out nearby enemies and then standing on them for a few seconds. There is a system of "tickets", and the first team to lose all their tickets loses. Since you are always losing tickets, you slow that loss down by taking spawn points and killing enemies. You speed up your loss of tickets by losing spawn points, letting the enemy gain ground, or dying. This game also has a class system with medics, engineers, assault, scout, and anti-tank. Throw in the vehicles and you have limitless possibilities. The only downfall of this game is that it needs a pretty good computer. Before you buy, check the system requirements.

Summary: Best 1st person multiplayer out
Review: Battlefield 1942 is by far and away the best multiplayer game out. Counter-Strike held this title and paved the way for a game like this, but the immense maps and multiple options (Driving tanks, jeeps, APCs; Flying fighters, dive bombers, heavy bombers; Manning ships, coastal guns, anti-aircraft) Including the option to be different types of soldiers (assault, engineer, medic, scout, anti-tank), this game blows away all others. Teamwork is the name of the game, if you are really interested in winning the maps. You can go RAMBO and try to wipe out the enemy by yourself, however you will usually only result in eliminating more of the enemies then you, and most of the objectives (IE: strategic markers) will fall to the team playing in unison. Gameplay is excellent, especially taking into account all the simultanious action going on in such a large map. Realism is right there with the fun factor, just the right blend. The only real drawbacks are the components necessary to run the game. If you are thinking of buying this game, seriously consider purchasing a new video card first. The GeForce MX cards are compatible, however you will need to make some tweaks to the configuration of the game and/or the card itself in order to have satisfatory play. That means you miss out on some of the features that you could have, like full detailed textures and shadowing, etc. Its not a major difference but big enough in my opinion to suggest upgrading your video card. Get a GeForce Ti card (IE: GeForce 3 Ti 200, or better) or an ATI Raideon card. Also if you are running Windows 98/Me, you should consider upgrading to 2000 or XP. The machine should realisticly have at least 256MB of Ram and be running a processor speed of at least 1.0Ghz. Those are baselines, my machine is 2.0Ghz and has 1.0GB of RDRAM with a GeForce 3 Ti200. Many people have also complained that playing with dial-up (56k) is a waste of your time. I cannot say one way or another. I have a cable modem and have never tried dial-up. The game claims it will support dial-up, although I would doubt it could be anything but laggy. If you want to play this game on dial-up, try to get your computer specs as close to what I wrote, then at least your not lagging out on both sides (your connection, and your system). You can still play effectively with a latency of less than 300ms, however your gameplay will seem choppy at times. Battlefield 1942 was just was I was dreaming for, and then it came. I am very happy with this game!

Summary: Simply Bad..., A true Gamer's wet dream
Review: Ok this game is simply awesome, it has tremendous freedom and variety yet it doesn't take a month to get used to the game, something that can appeal to people. It has standard FPS gameplay and control so if you've done a fair amount of gaming it comes absolutely natural (CS, NS, even Duke w00t). The animations and detail are outstanding if you've got the hardware to support it, which is a prob if you don't, but that's just the price of intensive gaming. Some have said the game should run smoothly on a less-than-par video card (GF2 MX isn't exactly top-of-the-line) and to get great graphics you need a video card that can pull some weight. Now if you're wondering if your system will run it good enough all I can say is I've got an XP 2100+, 512 MB PC2700, ATI Radeon 9500 Pro OC'ed to 9700 specs and it runs like a dream. It is also a problem if you have dialup, pretty much impossible to play online, so broadband is a must...but that also means IF you have broadband, you almost can't get a bad ping'ed server because everybody playing online has cable/dsl/adsl. There are something like thirty five vehicles and four different classes which allow amazingly varied gameplay and none of the classes are weighted above the others, even though the assualt soldier seems to be a stronger character. Now that the Road to Rome expansion is available, it's almost a must to get the full perspective of the game as well. Also there are two add-on maps called Aberdeen and Coral Sea; a massive North African tank battle and massive Pacific Fleet air-battle, respectively. With arguably the very best physics engine and very lucrative graphics engine out right now, it's no surprise it was PCGamer's Game of the Year and Multiplayer Game of the Year, it absolutely rocks, and people I know who have played Medal of Honor prefer Battlefield 1942. If you don't own it go buy it or pirate it, oops, I mean go buy it :). One way or the other, GET THIS GAME!

Summary: MOHAA at the next level
Review: This game is pretty much like MOHAA, but with much larger terrains, vehicles, and in general much larger battles. Some may like the freedom given to them, while others may not. Basicaly, you should like the game, but depending on your tastes, you may want to pass it. Borrow it from a friend first!
