Summary: Great story, great game
Review: This is definitely not for those who like "Hack n' slash" or shooter type games. However, if you liked Myst, you'll probably enjoy this one. It is more of an interactive novel than a game, really. The plot is non-cliche', although they could've done without the side plot of the detective, which I too felt was unrealistic. I mean, come on. In the real world, if you go AWOL from your job without calling in sick, that's generally seen as quitting. The company would probably just have replaced her and not bothered with the detective at all, especially after finding out she was alive via her cell phone. But still, the main plot was pretty good. I do wish they'd have explained Kate's reasons better though. Yeah, she has a good heart, but even the most kind-hearted souls probably wouldn't follow someone to the ends of the earth without strong motivation. And what exactly was her dream, anyway? To get away from her boss and annoying mother? I have to say this is the only computer game that ever brought tears to my eyes at the end. I really hope they do a sequel. It could be Syberia III: Return to New York.

Review: This sequel was as much fun and as beautiful as Syberia I. However, some of the puzzles at the end were rediculously difficult, and the game was much shorter than Syberia I. However, I recommend it, and wish there were more games that were this interesting, fun, beautiful, and stable.

Summary: Sequel doesn't disappoint
Review: This sequel was great fun and worth the bucks I shelled out for it. To repeat what I've noted in the original Syberia review, this is an adventure game of the Myst variety--lots of sumptuous graphics and a plot that keeps you moving forward until the end. This software is not the "kill everything that moves" type of adventure game that is so popular nowadays, but it is something you can give to a pre-teen and not worry about any gross violence, language, or suggestive material. It's just clean fun. I'd also compare this software to the Longest Journey, which is my favorite adventure game to date. There is a lot of dialogue between your character and others, and the logic puzzles aren't too strenuous in nature (Remember Riven and some of those killer puzzles...ugh...first time I went to a walkthough). The puzzles in Syberia II are sequential in nature for the most part and very down-to-earth. For example, you find items as you progress, and apply those items to various tasks you have to undertake to move forward in the game. Can't get through a door? That means you haven't completed other portions of the sequence or found the right item to help you open the door. Nothing too far-fetched or annoyingly hard to figure out. Overall the sound was appropriate and the music isn't irritating--something that has bugged me about adventure games in the past. I had some "fuzziness" in the sound during the game, but that had to do with my older computer and its sorry audio equipment. The one downside to this experience was the fact that my computer is older and didn't have enough RAM or newer video drivers to make the gameplaying flawless. I had to restart from a saved game more than once because my computer crashed because the high-definition graphics were too much for it to handle. That said, once I changed the graphics to "low" in the options area, the game ran smoothly once again. The experience proved to my husband that we really do need to upgrade! Overall, a very enjoyable experience and I recommend it to others who enjoy this gaming genre. I impatiently look forward to Mr. Sokal's next offering!

Review: To all the people out there eager to get the game: Could you please wait until you buy it before you post REVIEWS???? Yes, some of you have the demo; A DEMO IS NOT A FULL GAME. And some of you loved Syberia 1. Then, please post a review on V1. This section should be an opportunity to prospective buyers to see what other (buyers) think. Things other than that fit better in usenet.

Summary: Go home, Kate Walker
Review: WARNING...SPOILERS... Every time I dress up as a monk to sneak into a monastery where I'm not welcome, the first things I do are insult the clergy, then deface their art on the off chance that it might hold some clue I need to get something I need. If you enjoy doing these things as much as I do, then you'll LOVE this game! The plot and puzzles in this game are so hokey, that I can't give it higher than two stars despite the absolutely gorgeous graphics. I am still in the early stages of the game, and I will ONLY continue because it's so pretty. Kate has become a whiner, and totally unbelievable as she goes so far out of her way to help a guy she doesn't even know. I can suspend disbelief, I swear, but only if I WANT to...I care so little for Kate's "dream" of helping Hans, that I just can't forgive how lame the story is. Again, the artists who made this thing so beautiful should be commended, but that's the ONLY thing this game has going for it, and it's just not enough. (By the way, I thought the first game was just as bad. And this time around, they didn't even bother fixing the things that made Siberia so tedious...YES, I'm talking about the fact that you have to walk through every scene 50 times to visit places in the right order. I made the mistake of buying the sequel before playing the first one, otherwise I never would have bought it! If you enjoyed Siberia, you might actually like this one as well.)

Review: Wow!
What a great game! I was totally entertained with both Syberia I and now I have just completed II. Makes me laugh when I see that anyone would say Syberia II was too short. It just goes to show you how delightful both of these games are. I wish it could have gone on and on, but in no way was it too short. One just hates to see it come to an end. I loved them. I cannot say enough good things about them both. Superior in all aspects.

Summary: Join Kate Walker on a fun ride.
Review: Yes. Kate Walker is back. And what a ride. This game has excellent graphics, and good story (although some of the dialog is lame), many different places to go, and a great feel to the game. Syaberia 2 picks up where Syberia left off (there is a button you can click to refresh your memory about the first Syberia game though if you haven't played it, I would play it first before this one because they are both great). You start off in a small town called Romansburg. You have many different things to do before you can go and it is the same with most every place you go. Alot of the puzzles are pretty much common sense but there are a 5 or 6 puzzles that are very hard. It can get to be very tedious and frustrating, but it is very satisfying to solve it and move on. I thought the story was very good and the message that it brings is a good one that most of us should try following. The little cutscenes are well done and the movies are great. There many of these in the game and it is amazing to see them. Especially the last 2. They are pretty incredible. And the sound of the wind blowing and other sounds in the game give it a great feel. When I had my earphones on, I felt like I was actually there. It was great. If you played the first one, you definitely have to have this one. And if you like puzzle games and didn't play the first one, I reccommend you get the first one also and play both. Either way, this game is great.

Summary: Beautiful, enthralling and ingenious -- with a few flaws.
Review: You really have to have experienced the original Syberia to get the most out of Syberia II's storyline. As with the original, Syberia II suffers from some fuzzy logic in spots and downright ludicrous side plots. Kate's boss's search for her has sinister overtones for about two-thirds of the game, even involving a private investigator hounding her path into the Siberian wilderness; then it fizzles into a vague explanation about pressure from Kate's family fueling the boss's need to find her. Like the side plot about Kate's fiance and best friend in the first Syberia, this side plot could have been eliminated with no loss. In fact, the interruptions were irritating and contributed to the lack of logical flow both versions suffer from. Major logic flaw in Syberia II, and one that a trip to any basic encyclopedia would have alerted the writers/programmers to: penguins are native to the antarctic, NOT the arctic! The puzzles were satisfying enough, though a few of them were so hazy that I eventually turned to a walkthrough to get past them. It seemed that there were many more puzzles in the first location, Romansbourg, and it took a lot of time to get out of there to the next spot. From then on, it didn't take all that much time to get through the rest of the game, and it took on kind of a hurried, let's-get-this-thing-finished-and-on-the-market feel. That said, Syberia II is every bit the incredible work of graphic art that the original Syberia was, though a bit more somber and colorless. However, since it all took place in snowy, icy locations, it wasn't easy to get away from predominantly grey and white. I'm not thrilled that I bought this game at full price and now Amazon is offering it for $5.00 less than I paid only a few weeks ago. However, I don't regret the purchase and I'm looking forward to replaying Syberia and Syberia II in a year or so when I've had time to forget the solutions. Flaws and all, the exquisite graphics make these games a must for any fan of the adventure genre.
