Summary: its...ok
Review: Counter-Strike is the best. It's not UT2K4 or Halo, it's a team based game that puts good vs. bad. You do 1 of 2 things: you get to rescue hostages or defuse bombs; or kill all of the bad guys or good guys. It just depends on the side you're on. Now the multiplayer, it's the best: like the first time you kill somebody, you get hooked. The first time you die, you get hooked even more. I got it November 29 and I still stink at it, but it's fun! You don't have to be good to have fun. You don't come back after you die, you have to wait until the next round begins. The 1st player game is ok, but no where near as good as multiplayer. You need Steam to play multiplayer. You need to install Steam. It will take about 30 mins, but it will be worth it. Overall, it is the best game ever! Oh! Get UT2004, Halo and AVP2. They are all good multiplayer games, and they all get 5 stars. Jeff O.

Summary: Go to the Source!
Review: This game is little more than a graphical upgrade to the original Counter-Strike. Compound this with the fact that Counter-Strike: Source (Counter Strike with the Half-Life 2 engine) is now available as a part of Half-Life 2 makes this a pointless upgrade.

Summary: Take this, terrorists!
Review: From the makers of the ever popular HALF LIFE, here is a nice commando shoot-em-up role-playing game. People who have played HALF LIFE will find the gameplay similar insofar as weapons control / toggling & movement. This is a good thing as I always found HL to be one of the most straightforward games in that regard.

Instead of Marine Recon & aliens, in this game you are matched up against an array of terrorists. You are also not alone this time around; each scenario gives you the chance to be on an anti-terrorism bomb squad or hostage rescue team.

You get a set amount of $$ for each encounter, depending on how well you do. This money serves as the funding for your unit, and with it you can acquire team members, weapons and equipment. The better you perform, the better personnel & toys you're able to buy.

A nice feature of the game is that you're also able to custom make your own game. Want to have a virtual army of commandos go up against an army of terrorists? No problem! Want to be a terrorist instead of one of the good guys? No problem! Just be careful: if you get "caught" by yourself in one of these scenarios you will be taken out like a torch in a tropical storm.

While the game is fun, it does get a bit redundant after awhile. There are two basic missions: find and defuse a bomb (or kill the terrorists before they can plant it) or rescue hostages (or kill all the terrorists). While the maps change, your primary missions do not. People expecting an endless montage of missions similar to HALF LIFE might be disappointed.

Also, I do have a few minor critiques of the game. For one, your team dresses differently. Some dress like Navy SEALS while others are European anti-terrorism personnel. Not only is this unrealistic, but it's also distracting. Sometimes you can't tell your own men from the terrorists.

Secondly, the voices are the same whether you play a terrorist or a commando on the custom game. Somehow I can't imagine a terrorist saying "Yes Sir" or "Lead the way, sir" through a radio. Perhaps I'm being overly-picky here.

The single best feature of the game is what is known as DELETED SCENES. I didn't know what it was at first and almost didn't download it. I'm glad I did! It is a separate set of 10 or so missions. These are much closer to the HALF LIFE feel as you have a LOT of hit-points and you also work alone (for the most part) in the majority of the scenarios. These missions are very cool, not redundant & they're worth the price of this game all by themselves!

All in all this is worth picking up if you like role-playing shoot-em-ups. While it can't really compare to HL (except for DELETED SCENES) it's still worth picking up. For beginners I would recommend starting out with sniper rifles as you can pick off terrorists from afar without getting shot-up yourself. The range of the remainder of the weapons leave you very exposed to incoming bullets.

Summary: Great Game
Review: I dont undestand these people who are giving this game 1, or 2, or even 3 stars. They must have expected something completely different. I have owned, and enjoyed Counter-Strike for about 5 years or so, if I remember correctly. This goes back to the days when the m4a1 had a scope on it. Yea, it did. This is quite literally the only game that could hold my attention this long. It also, quite sadly as far as games go these days, is one of the most realistic shooters, that have a high level of fun involved in it as well. What I mean by that is the pysics are so realistic in this game. You can wet down a house, fense, or most other materials with a powerfull weapon, like an AK, or M4, or so on, and hit whatever is on the other side of it. Something that most games (God knows why) dont bother putting in. YOU CAN SHOOT THROUGH WALLS. It is the best part of this game. You hear someone jump into the vent? BLAST IT, you will kill the b--tard. Weapon realism is as good as any game out today, and this is the year 2004, this goes back to Couter-Strike, say 98. That says quite a bit about this game.

All in all, I say ignore the negative reviews, and spend the $40 on this game. It would be the same as spending 40 on the Half-Life series, and getting the mod of Counter-Strike. Oh yea, I forgot to mention, this is basically Counter-Strike, with juiced up graphix, plus bots, which are pretty cool actually. I can guarantee you some of the best online play you will ever experience. Over 10,000 people play both CS, and CZ put together, so that can give you an idea of how good this game is.

Summary: I made a $25 mistake
Review: I regret buying HL:CS-CZ; That was one of the biggest mistakes I've made with my money. It's one thing to spend $25 on your girlfriend and she dumps you the next day, but this is like she's dumping you 30 seconds after buying it.
CZ and CS 1.6 has destroyed the true CS community, sure there are some seasoned people around but other than that it is all noobs.
Lame excuse for LAN games, you must be connected to steam and the internet to play a LAN game. Lousy objectives on the bot SP, Deleted Scenes is ok but it's exactly like HL or HL:OPFOR.

Bad Valve===escaping STEAM
The balance of the game was taken out in cs 1.1-1.3 (I'm old school CS, Beta 4-CS1.6)

Summary: DONT BUY
Review: When I first heard about CZ, i was thrilled. My parents have been talking about taking away my internet (because I have been spending too much time playing CS on steam), so this would work out for both of us. I bought it, and regretted it. The single player engine is ALRIGHT. It was a good idea for the objectives (kill 3 enemies with deagle, and things like that) but the bots are idiots. They run in front of your shots, they DONT shoot at enemies, they kill hostages. It is not worth the money. If anyone has heard of Counter-Strike:Source, they will be saving up like me to buy. A beta version of Source was released today for all owners of CS:CZ, and this is AMAZING. Graphics are amazing, and all the other problems have been fixed. Smoke grenades work very well. The physics engine is excellent (this means if you stand on a barrel, it can break or shoot away), and when you kill someone, they realisticly die (not like in CS and CZ when they just tip over). Save your money, and buy SOURCE!

Summary: Buy Something Else
Review:
Graphics S-U-C-K. Multiplayer engine, Steam, has more security flaws than you should ever want, and I am sick of having to reregister with them.
