Summary: I am a huge CS fan but...
Review: (1)Cheating is such a problem that if you want to play this game then hopefully the single player mod will be good or else just play it on a LAN with friends. The internet on-line games are rife with cheating. Sometimes more than 50% of the players are using aimbot and wallhack and even the anti-cheating software is no good against them. Be prepared to be slaughtered if you do not cheat.

(2)Valve have done nothing to curb this problem and they have even managed to get the code for HL2 leaked so cheating is going to be rife again.

(3)They keep pushing the dates forward by 6 months or more which makes fans very unhappy.

Anyway bottom line is the single player is all this going to be worth. The multiplaying arena is full of cheating and I would certainly NOT pay for a game that can not combat cheating. It should stay free until they can resolve the cheating exploits once and for all. Cheating ruins this game. It is like getting scores of 0 kills 52 deaths and the guy doing it all is like 60 kills 1 death. Is that worth your money?

Summary: Teams
Review: By - Tom Ham

Counter-Strike: Condition Zero will have five teams per side, and each team will have four different heads. So for all your math wiz's out there, that's over 160 combinations of units. What's cool here is that Gearbox has added a bunch of new uniforms that reflect the environments in which they're fighting in. "So when your mission is in a cold setting, your units will all wear artic gear. We also have desert and jungle camouflage as well," says Pitchford. "Every character type gets a different outfit dependant on where the mission is taking place."

One thing we here at GameSpy want to make clear. Almost every aspect of the single-player experience -- the new weapons, models, and maps -- will be available in multiplayer games. Don't think all this cool stuff is just for the single-player experience. Pitchford states, "The complete version of Condition Zero is a full retail product. A free patch will be released, however, that will make online Counter-Strike fully compatible with Condition Zero's online components."

The Artwork

"We've increased the amount of polys per model," explains Matthew VanDolen (a.k.a. Doo Doo Brown, artist and modeler at Gearbox), "Before the models were 750 polygons each. The ones in Condition Zero are 1,250 polygons. It's a 75% increase in the amount of polys per character." So how did it look? Check out our exclusive screenshots of the models. In game they look incredible. Remember how much better Quake III Arena looked when compared to Quake II? It's that drastic of a change. You can see little nuances in the faces, not available in CS before. "We're also going to have full lip-synching," continues VanDolen, "You can see here the CT's mouth is moving. So when they say, "Fire in the hole!" you'll be able to see it. Just another thing to make CS more realistic." The textures on the uniforms are also first rate. We could see every wrinkle, crease and fold -- it left us speechless.

In addition to new models, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero will also incorporate new weapons. "As far as weapons go, we pretty much started over with the following assumptions," explains Pitchford. First, balance. The balance of CS is very important. We didn't want to introduce anything that disrupts the solidity of the game design as it stands. Second, realism in context. We wanted to introduce weapons to be plausible in the context for which they were intended. Third, fantasy. A lot of the CS weapons allow us to safely simulate the kinds of things we see in movies or hear about from war stories. We've added some guns that we've always wanted to see in action and have had a lot of fun using in the safe, simulated environment of CS. And lastly, strategy. Without radically altering existing CS paradigms, we wanted to add weapons that allowed for new tactics and new solutions to old tactical situations in the game. Using these basic objectives, we came up with a huge list of potentials. The list was tweaked, some tests were done, and some debates occurred and eventually we concluded with a very nice and solid collection of new weapons. Most of them are pretty exciting and all of them "fit."

Weapons and Toys

So what are the new weapons? "We've added some new weapons for both the CTs and Ts," explains Stephan Palmer, game/level designer at Gearbox, "The CTs have a new rifle called the FAMAS. The FAMAS is more so to counteract the Terrorist AK. Incidentally, the FAMAS is used by the French GIGN." "On a side note," says Brian Martel, "the FAMAS was also the gun that was in Metal Gear Solid." A new weapon for the Terrorists is the Galeil. "It's the Israelis official rifle," explains Palmer, "It's similar to the AK-47 but it's a little heavier, so the recoil is not as bad so you're more accurate with it."

Summary: Graphics are so much better!
Review: I just got the new Counter-Strike condition zero and the graphics in multiplayer are so much better. Worth the money by their own. The single player also makes the game worth it. If you already own counter strike you can wait but if you don't own counter strike buy this for sure. The bot's work perfectly and it's nice to use all the new skins and guns. So far it's been released for 7 hours and there are about 24 active servers and rising. THe only thing I would change is that in multiplayer I don't see any new weapons or the new counter terrorists/counter-t's yet. Buy it.

It goes without saying that Counter-Strike is the most popular online multiplayer game right now. Simply blowing the doors off Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament, Tribes II and even the recently released Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer test, the number of folks playing Counter-Strike is truly astounding. According to GameSpy statistics, on the average, there are at least 30 to 40,000 people playing Half-Life at any given time. Going one step further shows that about 90 percent of those are playing Counter-Strike.

But all this gaming nirvana has one important caveat -- players need a high-speed connection. Unless you have broadband access via cable or DSL, you're pretty much outta luck. Sure you can play with an archaic ... err standard 56K connection, but come on people, we all know it's just not the same.

Enter Gearbox Software (the brilliant minds responsible for Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift). Having already proven themselves to be a top-notch developer of Half-Lifeexpansion games, Valve Software was more than willing to hand over the reins to them to create Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. "Condition Zero is a game that we want to play," explains Doug Lombardi, director of marketing and third party relations at Valve Software. "Obviously, Counter-Strike is one of our favorite multiplayer games, and we've always wanted to take on the challenge of recreating, even expanding upon, the thrill of a great multiplayer game in single-player. Add the challenge of co-op play against very worthy opponents while also providing new maps and toys for the existing multiplayer community, and this became a very compelling project for everyone involved."

On a recent visit to Dallas, GameSpy got to sit down and meet with Gearbox Software and discuss their upcoming plans for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. Not only did we get insight into the game's development, we managed to get some serious hands-on playtime with the game as well! Even though the single-player game was still in the works (don't worry we'll report on this when we go back to Dallas), we were able to spend several hours checking out some of the multiplayer aspects of Condition Zero including new maps, units, and weapons. Needless to say, what we saw was brilliant. Gearbox Software is definitely on the right track.

"It's a challenge for us," explains Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software, "the biggest hurdle was to design a single-player game that captured the excitement and rapid-pace gameplay that the online version offers. We had to design a single-player game that feels in every way like Counter-Strike as far as tactics and action goes, but give solo players an experience that is actually better than the online game in terms of structure and presentation." Granted this is no small feat. But how do you top an already seemingly perfect game such as Counter-Strike?

Summary: WARNING! This product has some addictive side-effects.
Review: Notice how the only people giving this game bad reviews are those who already played CS or Half Life: Countert Strike, yet everyone else is giving this five star ratings? That's because this game flipping rocks, and the only ones who have a problem with it are those who played a similar version. If you get this game, and haven't played any of the other CS's, then your only complaint should be that it cuts hours away from your life. I highly recomend this game, with a six out of five star rating (if only that were possible).

Summary: Don't buy Condition Zero
Review: I have been a CS fan since the beta's were first out. I am a huge fan of CS, so I figured CZ would be a great game. Waiting 2yrs from the original release date to play it and what did I get. The same game I already had, sure it has some new textures but thats not good enough. The bots are better but its not worth the $40 that you have to pay. The deleted scenes are ok but still not worth the money. Plus, its full of bugs, mine crashes about every 15 min and locks my comp up until I restart it. Wait until Half-Life 2 and/or Doom 3 comes out to get a great game.

Summary: Ripped Off
Review: Don't bother buying this game if you have the original CS. It's the same thing with slightly better graphics. With all the hype and delays it should have been better. For Shame Sierra... For Shame.

Wait for the price to drop to $10... Then consider it.

Summary: Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
Review: This game is what I expected and more... The graphics have been tripled from 240 polygons to 720. The chracters look so real. The weapon models are amzing and the accuracy and power of the guns is realistic. The skins must be replaced with the new versions that can be found online. The single player verison of the game includes 12 explosive single-player mission with amazing AI and bot support. They are a perfect substitute for human players, sometimes even better. My friends can't even tell if I'm online or not. That's how good this game is. I would buy it soon...GREAT GAME!

Summary: Such a waste...
Review: I've was waiting almost two years to play this game and when it finally came out, I bought it! The biggest gaming mistake of my life. I have played Counter-Strike for over two years and its great. Condition Zero is no more then CS version 1.6. The graphics are almost the same, the new weapons can't be used online or on the single player mode that it has. Single player is nothing more then just facing off agaisnt bots and accomplishing objectives like get 3 kills with a sniper rifle or win a round in less then 75 seconds.

Valve promised so much new. Better graphics? Nope. New weapons? Nope. New maps? Nope. All the maps in CZ are either Counter-Strike maps or just maps you see all the time that are popular in version 1.6 of Counter-Strike. The only way to get new skins like the Russian and Japanese Counter-terrorist soldiers or U.S. Militia terrorists is to download of differnt sites. There only two new things that are truly new. The single player which is just facing bots. Great for people with a bad internet conncection. The other thing is "Deleted Scenes" which are about a dozen missions around the world ridding the world of terrorism. That is the only place where you will find the new weapons that were promised. At best the Deleted Scenes are medicore and the worst just total crap. Feels like playing a 40 dollar version of Half-Life that came out in 2004 with better games like UT:2004, FarCry and Battlefield Vietnam.

The graphic engine is about the same as a Quake 2 engine. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault used a Quake 3 engine and it came out in 2001. Condition was supposed to come out in 2000 as a patch that added to Counter-Strike. I enjoy Counter-Strike a lot, but Condition Zero is just a complete waste that should be 1.7 patch for CS. Valve should be completely ashamed of themselves. They charge 40 bucks for a game they released four years ago. Do not buy this game. Pity Valave and move on. CS was great and still is plus its free. CZ in one word: sucks. I feel ripped off and play new and better games. Valve is living in the past where they will whither and die.
