Summary: Who can wait?!
Review: I've seen much, if not most, of the information about Doom III. And while I've been gaming on PCs for the better part of 15 years, I can say without a doubt that this title is the single most anticipated product of my gaming life (with the possible exceptions of Half Life and Halo). The emphasis on tension, atmosphere, pacing and the immersive illusion of reality leave me expecting a lot. But based on the reputation and track-record of ID Software it is unlikely that those expecations are misplaced. Factor in the influence of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and this 'game' will almost certainly be deep, dark, sinister and flat out scary. Let me buy it now, please! ;)

Summary: The Best Engine I've seen in years...
Review: DOOM III is going to be one of the most decent games of the year, luckly I downloaded a movie of it, and the 4 minute footage, even at a low resolution with quicktime 5, looked incredible. I don't care about the game play, I just care about the engine. Doom III has the best most realistic lightning effects I've seen in years. And the incredibly real-time amount of detail thrown into it is just unbelievably convient for a huge upgrade in the gaming industry - considering the engine. I own a Pentium 4 2.66ghz with Windows XP Proffensional OS, ALL IN WONDER ATI RADEON 9700 Pro, 1.5GB of ECC 1066Mhz RDRAM, Creative Lab's Sound Blaster Audigy 2, Dolby Digital Surround 5.1, DirectX 9.0a, Windows XP Home Edition, two 120GB HDS, and more. I tried the alpha demo of doom 3 last week, and it ran great. It is so icnredible, the zombies are so scary and realistic, even when you think they are dead, they ain't. DOOM III is quite voilent and gory, thus, lagged a bit at high resolutions. <800x600, 1024x768, 1124x864, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, etc>. The graphics were just unbelievable. The game play isn't perfects though. I suppose DOOM III will require a Pentium 4 1.5Ghz, with a NVIDIA GeForce 3, and 256 mb ram. Pretty high, but remember, DOOM III will be released some time in 2003, so there will be much better hardware such as hardware that exceeds the radeon 9700 pro, and the intel pentium 4 3.06ghz. Not much else, it should be even better once it's [hopefully] released for the XBOX! I suppose that DOOM III should be ... DAMN GOOD!!

Summary: (((DOOM III ALPHA LEAK)))------>WOW!!!
Review: (...)I was one of the few lucky ones to be able to play Doom III Using the 3 level Demo that E3 released. I must say that the game accomplished what it was intended for, to scare the living daylights out of you. I played the Alpha Leak on a 1.8Ghz 512mb ram with a Geforce 4. It was laggy but I'm sure it will run better once the retail is out. Doom III has the best lighting and shading I've ever seen in a game ever. The game is like walking around in a scary haunted house with a gun. The models for the zombies and monsters are insanely realistic. It's dark, bloody, and scary and I look forward to playing the retail version. One word of advice, if you think the zombie is dead, he is not!

Summary: DOOM III ALPHA LEAK!!!!
Review: Hi My name is Thorns and I was one of the few lucky ones to play
the 3 level doom three leak. I thought the game did very well
for what it was intended to do which was scare the liveing daylights out of you. I ran it on a 1.8ghz with a Geforce 4 and 256 ram and it ran ok on the lowest settings. Although I'm sure the retail version will run better I think the MIN will be a 1.5ghz 256 ram Geforce three and take up a few gigs on the H.D.
The game is bloody, violent and dark. It's a great game.

Summary: INCREDIBLE
Review: I've been playing the Alpha version (0.02) of DoomIII and even at this very early stage I am VERY impressed. The graphics engine is awesome. It simply redefines the first person shooter. The shading/shadows have such a natural appearance and give a stunning appearance as ceiling lamps swing back and forth. The textures are purely like nothing ever seen in gaming. I can only compare it to CG in movies like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. I wasn't too excited about this title and that Mr. Carmack is upset about the leak of the Alpha version of this title but after playing it...holy smokes...definately a title to preorder as it will be huge. And from what I've read in various online forums...I'm not alone. I have yet to see a bad word about it.

The sound is as incredible as the graphics. I don't know what they do...but from 2 speaker setups like mine it seems like surround.

And of course it's Doom and John Carmack...he has outdone himself...this is by far the scariest game since Resident Evil. Scary zombie monsters, cyborg beasts and more are around every turn.

The graphics/lighting, sound and storyline are incredibly enhanced by the great physics engine.

Of course beauty comes at a price. I have a decently high end system, 2.0GHz P4, 1GB RDRAM, GeForce4 Ti4600 and my box limped along at 30FPS at 640/480...but keep in mind that this title isn't due out for 6 months...and by then the next generation NVidia cards will be out along with faster versions of today's ATI 9700 so I'm not too worried about hardware requirements.

I can't wait...DoomIII will just keep the ID crew at the top of the FPS food chain...all the others are just bad impersonators.

Summary: The facts about Doom 3 and what you'll need to run it
Review: There is a lot of false information floating around on the internet about what kind of super computer you'll need to run Doom 3. Here is what we know:

John Carmack, who is programming the graphics of the game, has stated that you'll be able to run Doom 3 with all graphicsdetails at a reasonable framerate (probably around 30 fps) with a Geforce 3. Anything below that (Geforce 2, Radeon DDR) and you will have to turn down a lot of the details to get it to run well.

Doom 3 is designed for a Geforce 1 level class of card, so any DirectX 7 card with hardware T&L will be able to display all the effects.

Doom 3 was shown at Quakecon running on a P4 2.2 GHZ with a Radeon 9700. It has been shown twice on the Radeon 9700, and was shown at a higher resolution and framerate the second time. This means the code is improving, and a Radeon 9700/Geforce 4 card should be able to run the game smoothly with all the details turned up.

If you're wondering if you should upgrade now, you could hold off until early 2003 when newer cards are being released. A Geforce 4 or Radeon 9700 should run the game great, but there will better cards available by the time of release.

Summary: The Legacy Continues...
Review: Id Software is the godfather of the first-person shooter. Making titles such as Doom, Quake, and Wolfensteine, they have always been the best. Now Id is bringing the most powerful and interactive gaming engine to date to the PC gaming world and it is in the form of Doom III. I'm going to buy it and so should you.
