Summary: Nice game, but too much demand on the hardware.
Review: I played the demo, however, it did not run so well on my machine. The game is pretty much like other 1st person shooters (Quake, Unreal, etc.) but it has incredible environments (nice shadows, realistic moving lamps, gas vents, blood, etc..) and the zombies that appear out of nowhere really make you jump!

Summary: I seen previews of this game and the graphics are amazing
Review: This game looks like it is a must have. I only played one doom in my life and it was on super nintendo but i am positive i am going to by this game. I love shooting games and this game is probely going to be one of the best shooting games out there on the market. But like I said this game is probly going to have the best graphics and I dont think any games are going to match the graphics for a long time. I hope this reviews helps and i hope u guys agree with me about this game.

Summary: Just seeing
Review: The pictures, I CANNOT WAIT to get it! Of course it comes out the day before my birthday, so that is one of the things I am going to get. I have been a loyal DOOM fan since playing it for the first time almost 10 years ago on the Macintosh. I also got a chance to beat Doom 2, which was a HUGE FEAT for me for being 9.
Now after so many years, and playing and beating Doom, Final Doom, Doom 64 on the N64 and the PS1, now my dreams are coming true! The monsters are F***ing scary and the enviroments are F***ing realistic! I have played other FPS, but Doom will ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE FPS. I have gotten a chance to play Halo on the XBOX, but nothing with ever outbeat the game that started it all. Cannot wait for it, so ID hurry up because this Doom fan wants to kill some Imps with my BFG!

Summary: Doom ]|[ vs HL2
Review: I've played the Doom III alpha, and I've watched the video for Half-Life 2. I have to say that I'm very impressed with both games. For those people that want to argue about which will be better, I say that it depends on what catagory you're talking about. As far as graphics are concerned, dark, indoor environments will definitely be easier and better in Doom III. For outdoor environments though, (and especially ones with bright colors, whether indoors or not), will definetly be better done in Half-Life 2.

As for the gameplay, I think that Doom III is going to be more of a base demo (though this will be much better than the purely bot match game called Quake III). If ID does this right, I expect to see some very good looking games from other developers based on this engine. I would personally like to see a Star Wars game done in this engine.

Overall, if I had the money, I would buy both of these games. However, that would also mean shelling out money for a much better vid. card, but then again....

Summary: HL2 Versus Doom3
Review: So, the two camps are already dividing and starting the flame wars on which game will be the superior FPS upon release...

I saw someone offer the opinion that Doom 3 will have the better graphics and Half Life will be "more immersive". Personally, I never found anything immersive about running around, crouching to one knee, and taking a shot that had a "real life targeting system" that basically means that it doesn't matter WHERE you see your crosshairs, the bullet is going to randomly go somewhere else. I found the Rouge Spear series *far* more engaging and immersive in this genre than Half Life, and I've always been surprised by the huge following that Half Life and it's various mods like Counter Strike have. My guess is that it is more an issue of accessibility than it really is of how strong the game engine is. Half-Life, to me, is the Windows 32 OS of FPS games... it may not be the BEST, but everyone has it, so that is what gets all the attention.

With that said, I imagine if you are a Half Life player, you'll prefer the game play of Half Life 2. If you are a Doom or Quake player, you'll prefer Doom, once the final retail releases are available. Arguing over which is BETTER is an exercise in futility, because it really comes down to a matter of personal taste. With that in mind, I see no reason to assume that Doom 3 will deserve anything less than 5 stars on release, assuming you enjoy this type of first person shooter. If you're a Half Life fan, save your money, and stick with your game, we won't miss you and your llama complaints in the multiplayer online mode...

Summary: time will tell
Review: I think first and foremost people have to remember one thing about both Doom3 and Half Life 2....NEITHER ARE OUT. So to base a review on Alpha releases and movies that were not up to date is just silly.

I have seen all of HL2's movies and have played the Doom3 Alpha just as many people have, but the fact is much of both games is changed since those were releases/leaked. The alhpa is basically no more than an old tech demo, and a good portion of the HL2 movies contained place holder art and sounds...in other words don't judge a game by it's OLD cover.

I think it would be a safer bet to assume things based on the past rather than on Alphas and videos. If things follow the past, then it will be a safe bet to assume that Doom3 with have the better graphics, while HL2 with have the better interactivity and game immersion.

After that a lot of it's going to be in the eye of the beholder. For ME, I think graphics can only go so far and after the newness wears off you see what's underneath. If what's underneath doesn't shine bright, then the game will not be great for too long.

I will buy both games for sure, but I am looking forward to Half Life 2. It "seems" to have more of everything I would want. The graphics are good, not Doom3 good, but pretty close. But it's the other parts of the game which are important for me. The characters and the interactivity and the story. We only have the one game to look back on from VALVe...Half life....but it was a great game and their eye for detail seems to be showing through once again. Time will tell though if HL2 recaptures any of that greatness.

As for Doom3 ...well...prior track records from its creator, id, shows great graphics engines by John Carmack, but almost nothing "new" or innovative after that. Doom/Wolfenstein were new and great, but Quake was basically a "prettier" version of them. Quake 2 was a "prettier" version of Quake 1. Q3A was a "prettier" version of those, but that didn't even have a single player games (other than bots)! Since Doom and Wolf, to me, all of the games have gone downhill other than graphics. And none of them have had a great story other than go in and kill everything that moves. I know this is something that appeals to a lot of players, for me it becomes very boring if that's all there is.

Another aspect which catches my eye: John Carmack has already stated Doom3 will not be very long, while Gabe Newell has stated Half Life 2 will be as long or longer than the orignal Half life (which was pretty darn long to start with). And Multiplayer is still up in the air with both, but it appears Doom3 will SHIP initially with only a 4 player multiplayer, while Half life 2 will be 32+. On top of that HL2 will have Team Fortress 2 (to be talked about after Half life 2 ships according to Gabe Newell), as well as Counter strike 2 no doubt soon to follow, and a ton of things from the Mod community. Doom3 quite frankly, doesn't have a quarter of the kind of mod support the Half Life community has.

So, bottom line, we don't know what each game will bring...we know bits and pieces of the present, and we know the how the past went for each game, so it's going to be in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think unless Half Life 2 drops the ball completely that it's going to be "the" game to play over the next couple years.

Summary: Once again and alpha player
Review: Like many that come before me, I too played the alpha. I must say that the alpha won me over. Playing the alpha of course didn't give me an accurate representation of hte entire game but it the alpha alone was enough to convince me to buy the final product when it comes out. The graphics in the alpha were amazing, the light detail were the best I've ever seen in a game. I would have to say the graphics in this game rival those of any game announced, even half life 2. The textures were a bit blurry but I'm sure that will change in teh final release. I'm running a 9700 pro and a 3.06ghz with 1 gig ram and I got slowdown, but I have confidence that that will be fixed for the final release. Let me tell you this, every screenshot they showed up to the alpha was in fact real. I had the privledge of takinga few screenshots myself and I was very very impressed at the level of detail put into each character. The gameplay even at such an early stage is shaping up nicely, this isn't a quake 3 type game, everything is set at more of a slow pace, so dont think this is a trigger happy game. While I'm sure its gonna be full of action at the end, the appearance of the alpha is they are going for a scary game and accuarcy combat instead of the dodge combat similar to quake 3 and other "fragfests"
So how impressed was I? If the final version of doom3 is only alpha quality with all thegames levels I would still buy it, the autmosphere and graphics alone make it worth buying for me.

Summary: eh
Review: I played the alpha the other day. People, if this is what the game will be like get ready for a bore-fest. Sure its purty, but that won't make a difference if there's no gameplay. I have a bad feeling this game will disappoint many.

Summary: C'mon people! This game will be awesome!
Review: I watched the E3 movie trailer of this game and it looks awesome! It may end up being just like the original Doom, except it will have better graphics, an in depth storyline, and the demons just look way better than the original Doom's demons did. I don't think it's going to be mindless like some of the reviewers say it is (I think you actually pursue somebody in Doom III, that's what I read in PC Gamer). I heard it was going to be short, but I also heard it was going to have alot of content. So it should be worth playing over again then. To the people giving this negative reviews, give this game a break! It hasn't come out and we don't really know how it will turn out but I think it will turn out pretty good and not crappy like Unreal II did (which never looked very promising anyway). Let's just wait and see.
