Summary: high octane gaming
Review: If you played all of the frist battlefields then you will like this one, more weapons, planes, helicopters, and more people to shoot. I haven't played the game in a while but when I did, nobody could could take me away from the computer that's how interesting it is. My friend said "that I recamend this game to anyone but my sister". I also advice people who like gaming to the next level of close to the edge gaming then buy this game.

Summary: This game is awesome
Review: The graphics are unreal, but I know you need a strong computer to run it.
Mine:
Pentium 4HT 3.4GHz 800FSB
1 GB DDR2 PC3200 RAM
128mb nVidia 6600GT PCIe Card

The AI is almost as good as 1942. The choice of weapons is good. Set Traps, drop and move start points and vehicles. It is hard to control the helicopters, but other than that ease of use. The sound in the background is realistic. Overall good game.

Summary: I LOVE THE SMELL OF NAPALM IN THE MORNING
Review: Battlefield Vietnam is a First Person Shooter game set during the Vietnam War, giving the player a choice of being US or VC. There are several maps to choose, ranging from urban to jungle warfare to tunnel networks. The level of detail in this game is outstanding. The jungles are thick with vegetation, trees, rocks, hills, rivers, and small villages of hooches. The city maps are full of multilevel buildings with access to roofs, doorways, and windows. Some maps even have smoking wreckage and debris. In short, there is plenty of cover and concealment.

The game really shines with a wide selection of vehicles, aircraft and helicopters. Best of all, you can play music as you charge into battle. The music provided is straight from the Vietnam era and can be heard by all those travelling with you, as well as those nearby. You also have the option of importing your own music. However, playing your own songs can only be heard by you.

To begin, you choose what your character will look like and wear. US can choose between a white or black soldier, where as the VC characters all look the same. Uniforms are a choice between short or long sleeved tops. VC can choose to go shirtless. There is also a choice between wearing a helmet, boony cap or head band. Your next choice is your character's weapons, or "kit" as the game calls it. You can be a rifleman, automatic rifleman, engineer or sniper. A sidearm consisting of a revolver or .45 pistol is provided, as well as hand grenades. An engineer can plant mines, fire mortars, and repair vehicles. Snipers carry rifles equipped with high powered scopes, capable of identifying and taking out targets at long ranges. In addition, snipers also carry a sidearm, binoculars, and smoke canisters for use in painting targets or concealment.

The AI in single player mode really stinks. Troops stand out in the open rather then take cover when fired upon. They are also terrible pilots and will bail out or crash when over a target. The best thing to do in single player mode is practice your flying skills. There are also no tunnel network maps in single player mode.

Multiplayer games can be extremely frustrating, full of players who hog aircraft, particularly choppers, or go running off on their own interested only in making the highest score while their comrades in arms die all around them. Anyone who brags about having the highest score at the end of a battle, especially when that player's team has lost, obviously has no concept of the word TEAMWORK. I suggest rounding up a few buddies or make a few friends in the game and work together.

Summary: Multiplayer Fun
Review: The individual solo games are fun, but it is the multiplayer that makes this game. You can snipe opponents from the brush, lay down and they cannot see you. Booby trap vehicles, there is so much to do and the maps are so huge. Helicopters are difficult to control, but very effective. Ho Chi Minh trail has awesome graphice detail, as do most of the scenarios. The sound is really awesome with the anti war PA announcements flooding the area. Overall, lots of fun.

Summary: Good, if you can get over the weaknesses
Review: Battlefield: Vietnam has a lot going for it, but some drawbacks also. To start with, I would like to say that if you liked Operation Flashpoint and like the Battlefield series then Battled: Vietnam is a good game for you because you will probably prefer a simulation 1st person war shooter than an arcade style 1st person. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing that even comes remotely close to capturing the simulation experience of Operation Flashpoint, and BFVietnam is even a step down the rung in that department.

In fact Battlefield: Vietnam is more akin to playing Team Fortress on Counter-Strike. You have bases and you defend them or take them, with players of up to 64 on a map. However BFVietnam comes nowhere close to the type of radio commands that OF had to offer, or the vehicles or the strategy. Here there is no single player story, just the multiplayer maps with bots like in Unreal. Nothing wrong with multiplayer, single player with bots is quite intensive (the bots are not nearly half as good as OF), however the simulation experience is not present.

So don't go in with hopes up expecting OF or better. There is nothing even remotely like OF, but OF has only fair graphics when compared with today's standards. A new OF is really what we want!

On the graphics side, it is not bad at all, the maps are quite nice, like Far Cry without the smashing water effects, but nowhere near pushes a 128mb card. I ran everything on full on a 256mb and could see its limits.

The problem is the lack of commands, the lack of team members like in OF, everything a notch or two down except graphics, but you know, none of that makes it better or even close to OF, especially since the animations and deaths have been so improved on elsewhere.

The multiplayer aspect is good, great team gaming experience, captures a lot of the feel of Vietnam, but the animation is not superb and to be honest you will probably ditch it when a new OF comes out. Until then you might like a week or two with this, but that is all.

Summary: Great if you know how to play, otherwise why bother?
Review: The printed instructions tell not much about how to play and I guess you have to know how before you buy the game. I was in Vietnam for three tours (the first with the First Infantry Division) and know about Vietnam. But all I can do in the game is wanter around until I get killed. I did duke it out with a tank and I had only an M79 for a few seconds. I bought the game for some time with a quad 50, but can not find any. The only weapons I can get to are small arms and light machine guns. I can not get into any of the vehicles. I look over the web for instructions and perhaps will find a book on how to play. Until then, I am probably back to my Myst series.

I suspect that we have evolved into a community of gamers who know how to play and let us pay for the updates. The rest of us buy and move on without ever learning much.

Sigh. The scenry is fun.

Review: this game blew me away at how much fun it is. I've played alot of the cpu games out there and this is by far the best one. You can set booby traps drop napalm and other bombs from f-4s. Theres plenty of vehicles and aircraft to satisfy even the pickiest gamer. Thank you, EAgames.
