Summary: This is going to be great!
Review: Thanks alot amazon! Not only you gave me the lowest price, but I didn't have to pay an extra $10 for pre-ordering!

Alot of new features in Battlefield: Vietnam. Now, you can pick your own primary weapon, no matter what soldier class you choose, unlike in BF: 1942. You can shoot your hand held weapon from the passenger side of any vehicle. You can totally customize your characters, from your outfit, and race, to the appearance of your characters head and face. New vehicles including some awsome helicopters! The Huey attack helicopter, a Huey Transport Helicopter, a Chinook, a Cobra attack helicopter, and many more! What I can't wait to fly is the new F4 Phantom with it's Napalm bomb! Also, you can customize the main game menu with your own songs! Not only that, while flying your men into action in a vehicle, you can jam to some 60's music, very good music :). Some of the bands are...

"The Box Tops"
"Count Five"
"Bobby Fuller Four"
"Canned Heat"
"Edwin Star"

The maps on this game are beutifull! Tons of trees, bushes, grass, and water. The soldier classes are packed with more weapons than before, including some anti-tank weapons to even the odds against enemy armor ;). All sorts of traps you can set, pungee sticks, rolling logs, and alot more. The new weapon animations are great! Except that the shells come out on the left side, it's not realistic but looks great! Now you can even pick up vehicles with your helicopters! You can transport tanks across rivers, or into action.

There is so much more, I can't get it all out fast enough, going to have to learn how to type faster :). It's going to be a great game! It's worth the price for sure! You wont find a better deal than amazons!

Summary: Exceptional Quality
Review: I own Battlefield 1942 and can honestly say it's one of the best games out there right now. Insane graphics and intense gameplay are what we've come to expect from EA titles such as the "007" series and their sports lineup. Battlefield is no different.

Along with a gripping single-player mode, Vietnam offers intense online multiplayer action in which two teams collide on accurately detailed maps from the war in Vietnam.

Based on the amazing job on Battlefield 1942, Vietnam is sure to be of amazing quality, if not better than its counterpart. Keep in mind that Vietnam is not an update to Battlefield 1942, but a stand-alone game.

The only downside to the Battlefield series is how taxing it is on your computer. I have 381MB RAM, a 64MB Video Card, and a Cable modem, and I still experience lag here and there. Also, the insane amount of hard drive space it uses is a downer (Battlefield 1942 uses about 2 gigs!).

If you're looking for a good quality game though, I highly recommend Battlefield Vietnam.

Summary: This game sucks. What were they thinking?
Review: If you expect a first person shooter along the lines of Call Of Duty or Vietcong...forget it. If you have a video card other than Nvidia...forget it. If you seek smooth, logical gameplay...forget it. As a previous reviewer noted, there is definitely something wrong with this game. Movement is awkward and laggy, even at low resolutions. The single player games are pure confusion. The voice-overs and load time will drive you nuts. There is no keyboard reference sheet, and there are at least 50 commands to memorize and use. Land, sea, and air movements require different control setups. The game is bug-infested and the bottom line is...this game sucks.

Summary: Don't waste your time or money
Review: This game is full of bugs. I paid for this product with the understanding that it would be the final product. I can not understand people who would give this game 5 stars when it was so obviously rushed to the market place for profit. Just becuase this is software and not, say for example a car should not mean we should except a poor quality product. Imagine buying a car and then writing a review, "It is a great car and I give it 5 stars out of five. I can't wait until they put out the rcall to make the brakes work and to stop it from stalling out when I reach 60 miles an hour." It is a double standard that software companies are used to getting away with. The game is choppy and the buggy. I have a top of the line system and it is still laggy with bad graphics. The AI is terrible. I would not buy this game again and I will think twice before buying another Electronics Arts product. This review is my opinion and is not based on what I have expirenced. Take it for what it is worth.

Summary: Should have been a $20 expansion, not a $40 standalone
Review: This game's ok. It's basically a tweaked version of the battlefield 1942 engine - you can see longer distances, you can shoot out of moving vehicles, and there's a few other graphical upgrades as well. The overall performance of this game, however, is dismal - I'm running a Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz Extreme Edition with 2 Gigs of RAM and an ATI Radeon 9800XT video card, and I'm experiencing odd slowdowns and overall stinky performance. The actual gameplay is worse, in my opinion, than the original battlefield 1942 - everything feels "mushy". The characters, vehicles, weapons - everything - is unresponsive and overall unimpressive. Sound is weak, like it was in BF1942. The *free* Desert Combat mod for BF1942 is 300% better than this game, for which I paid $40.

In short, download the demo first and decide whether or not it's worth $40 to get a bunch more maps.

Summary: Jungle Boogie
Review: It's a jungle out there. Battlefield Vietnam whisks PC gamers to the dense foliage of Southeast Asia as war rages.

Sequel to the best-selling Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam has the look of yet another surefire hit.

Reinforced by movies such as Full Metal Jacket, the horrors of the Vietnam War and the domestic upheaval of the 1960s are seared into the national consciousness. Battlefield Vietnam captures the feel of the times with 1960s music and stylized imagery. The sound track alone is worth the price of admission as it pumps out tunes from Jefferson Airplane ("White Rabbit"), Creedence Clearwater Revival ("Fortunate Son"), and others.

In a clever twist, players can dial the tunes while operating vehicles, boats and aircraft. Other players will hear the music when the vehicle comes near.

Since Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries" is included, Battlefield Vietnam makes it possible to re-create the famous helicopter-assault scene from Apocalypse Now. Gamers can also substitute their own digitized music for the game's playlist.

Despite its focus on Southeast Asia, game play in Battlefield Vietnam is much the same as that found in Battlefield 1942. Players once again control an individual soldier using a first- or third-person view.

Combatants can be of one of several classes, including engineers, infantrymen or snipers. This time around, however, players can choose specialties within the classes. A North Vietnamese engineer, for example, can be equipped with a mortar in addition to his standard gear. Or, he can tote a shovel to prepare tunnels for other soldiers.

Characters are once again able to control vehicles, which have been updated to reflect Vietnam-era equipment. Soviet-made T-54 tanks and MiG-21 jets are among the North's arsenal, while U.S. and South Vietnamese troops will find F-4 Phantom fighters, Huey helicopters and Jeeps. Sampans and U.S. Navy patrol boats help players cruise the numerous waterways.

A new wrinkle is the ability of passengers to shoot their weapons from within vehicles. Also new is the airlifting muscle of large helicopters, which can carry tanks and patrol boats to strategic locations.

The game's rendering and sound engines have likewise been revamped. Explosions and battle sounds are noticeably more intense, while, on the graphics side, players must cope with jungle growth in many maps. The dense foliage opens new possibilities for ambush or placement of booby traps.

The 14 maps showcase a broad range of terrain, from jungle canopies to rice paddies to urban landscapes. Historically significant battles depicted include Khe Sanh, Hue, and the Ia Drang Valley.

Like earlier titles in the series, Battlefield Vietnam can be enjoyed as a single- or multi-player experience. While the single-player game is fun, the artificial-intelligence 'bots are inept, even at the higher difficulty settings. With a tendency to attach themselves to a vehicle and then do nothing, they are little more than cannon fodder.

Battlefield Vietnam really shines, however, in multiplayer action. The game supports up to 64 combatants in local area network or online combat. Internet play is free, and dozens of servers are already playing host to wild matches.

If you plan to experience the game fully, you will need a beefy gaming rig. The minimum hardware configuration calls for a 933-MHz processor, 256 megabytes of RAM, and a GeForce3 or Radeon 8500 video card. But even with twice the RAM, a much faster processor, and a top-end Nvidia card, I experienced long load times and the occasional slowdown during play. Of course, I was running maxed-out graphics. Play speed can be enhanced by dialing down the visuals, reducing the number of A.I. 'bots, or both.

Where does the series go from here? Expect an add-on module or two, just as Road to Rome and Secret Weapons brought additional weapons and battles to Battlefield 1942. Even more exciting is the prospect of mod designs that will allow the game's engine to simulate battles in other times and places. The success of Desert Combat, a Battlefield 1942 enhancement that let gamers slug it out in an eerily realistic simulation of Iraq, will surely inspire mod makers and map designers here. The game includes a map-making utility.

Summary: Good game but definitely a waste
Review: I was a Battlefield: 1942 fan, so I figured Battlefield: Vietnam was surely going to be a great game. It was entertaining but I was greatly disappointed. There are new maps and vehicles, but it is very much so a "hacked" 1942 basically. There are really no new features and not that many maps. I'm just going to stick with 1942 for now. There are still a lot of bugs (which will surely be patched in the future...)...but my advice is to wait until it's cheaper.

Summary: Good but not so Good
Review: Here is a game that is a sequel to battlefield 1942 and I judged it by it, and that was the wrong thing to do!!! At first the game is dumb but grows on you quickly!! The graphics are so so and the music stinks, and no campaign. The helicopters are great and the tanks are more realistic and some other mods. It ends up to be a so so game that you wish you had bought the other game beside it.

Summary: Why doesn't it bug me?
Review: I know that this game is supposedly filled with bugs but how come I didn't get any? I have whole mess of computers because my friend works in a Cyberpower inc, and I tried it on one of the most cheap computers that I had. It was only AMD Athlon 2000+, 512mb ram, GeForce 4 MX 440 64mb, with DSL and I was able to run it with no bugs, no lags, and on medium settings. But you guys who whines that this game is filled with bugs, try to see if your system meets the requirments. If it does, then try to see if there is anything else wrong with your PC. But if the game is still not working or has bugs, try downloading a patch or return it. You guys don't have to make bad comments and rate it bad just because it doesn't run on your PC and it does on mine. If you didn't play the game itself you shouldn't rate it.

Now back to the game itself, this game is amazing. I have played it and enjoyed every minute playing this game. It's so much better than Battlefield 1942 because you have newer weapons, more maps, and diffrent vehicles. Not only that, you will have more wide variety of tactics just as the Vietcong's Hit and Run or set up a trap with logs. It definitly has better sounds with radios in vehicles and better graphics. And no, it doesn't have worse graphics then Battlefield 1942. Oh crap, I have to go. Just make sure you have better computer than Pentium 3 1.4 or Athlon XP 1600+ with 512mb ram, GeForce 4 TI and Radeon 9000 or higher with DSL or higher connection to play without so much lags. The reason why the graphics reccomendation is so high is because this will make a big diffrence in the game. If you only have a GeForce 2, 3, Radeon 8500 or lower, it might not run very fast. To play it on highest settings with no lags, get at least Athlon XP 3200+, 1GB ram, Radeon 9600XT or GeForce 5700 Ultra with cable modem. Hope you enjoy the game and make sure you have at least my requirements to play with no lags. But you might have to play on low settings.
