Summary: Looks great, but so did U2 and UT2003, but this is UT2004
Review: My previous review is below, but I must update since I just got done playing my first deathmatch of the just release demo. To keep it simple I'm impressed. Seems the developers stopped listening to the whiners on the boards and made all the weapons very accurate and deadly once more. Running and gunning feels almost identical to the orginal UT which was in my opinion the pinical of twich gaming. There are lot's of wonder full new tweeks to the game, most fall under the "duh why didn't we think of that before catagory", but definitely make the game feel very polished even for a demo. So it's back to the demo for me. I'll most likely by reserving my copy tonight.

I'm taking a wait and see approach on this one. HUGE fan of the Unreal series, loved the first two, but don't know what they were thinking for Unreal 2 and Unreal Tournament 2003. Well actually I do, think of thousands of rabid fans begging for the game for several years and the guys in the suits started seeing big $$'s, so they released U2 and UT 2003 a little to early. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed U2 & UT2003. It's just that they were little more than technology demos to help sell their game engine and were weak on everything beyond the graphics. They definitely brought very little that was new to the table and even managed to forgot a few things that have become mainstays in the FPS genre.

I have high hopes for UT2004, all the things that should have been in UT2003 seem to be in place this time around. Hopefully they added in some in game weapons profiles (Yes the weapons were crap on damage and accuracy). The new mulitplayer types and vehicles should be pretty fun, though I'm pretty spoiled after playing BF1942. I expect quite a bit after playing that game.

The Karma game engine still looks the best, eat your heart out Halo/HaloPC/Halo2, and will drive many of us to go out and plunk down some money for new upgrades. UT2003 didn't actually put into much use many of the active lighting and shadowing effects, most if any were found were actually projected texture effects(a very low resource way of doing what appears to be active shadows). I doubt Ut 2004 will us it either since most people won't have the machine to run it. If you want to see a good example of active lighting and shadowing go look at Star Wars Galaxies, even little rocks and such throw shadows according to the time of day. Of course you end up only getting 10-15 frames per second even out of a relative new machine, far too little to play a FPS.

Regardless, I won't be pre-ordering this one, no matter how bad my fingers are iching to grab a credit card. Till I play a demo they won't be getting my cash. It's time to start showing the companies that put out half-finished products that they'll not get our business. Cough, Star Wars Galaxies, cough, cough...and unfortunately U2 and UT2003 as well as a large host of other games.

Summary: This game will be sick.
Review: Ok, obviously i have not played this game yet because it is not out, althogh i have viewed some videos of the various new vehicles like the tank. Also if you are a unreal tournament fan you'll be glad to know that the sniper rifle will be returning. Although every time you shoot it a puff of smoke with block your vision. Also new weapons such as the parasite mines will be included. There is a vehicle that noone knows about called the goliath,(sounds cool.) And like the graphics of ut2003 they will be cutting edge, and i hope a map and mod editor will be included (maybe unreal editor 4.0.) Finally there may be a rebate for the people who have already bought unreal tournmanet2003, but i dont know if thats true.

Summary: I hate unreal tournament....until this version! AMAZING!
Review: The be-all, end-all of sci-fi shooters is here. First let me say I've been pc gaming since the early 80s on my commodore 64, so I'm an experienced gamer. I loved, wolfenstein 3d and the follow ups of doom and quake. I enjoyed twitch-style shooters quite a bit, but the last one I really played a whole lot was quake 3.

When UT came out, I tried it and played it occasionally but never really liked it. I tried UT2003 also, but didn't really like it either.

With UT2004, epic has really outdone themselves. They made me a fan. I love this game more than any twitch style shooter I've played. The game modes are so varied. I guess you can't even really say it's all twitch, because the Onslaught game mode is slower paces, with more strategy.

This game has it all. And I mean everything but the kitchen sink...

- TEN gamemodes, including some solo, some team based, some objective based, some co-op, etc.
-SEVENTEEN weapons, all with alternate fire modes, so really you are getting 34 weapons...amazing...each has it's place and I haven't yet picked a favorite. I have THREE favorites! All are well balanced.
-over one HUNDRED maps!!!
-at least THIRTEEN vehicles, four of which are useable turret structures

To sum it up, I just have to say I love this game so far, and I was always a quake fan. The unreal series was just never "visceral" enough for me...until now!

If you are a shooter fan, and enjoy battlefield 1942, quake, counterstrike, sci-fi, action games, etc. then this game will have something to offer you.

Definate contender for game of the year, and it's such a great deal!

Summary: A first person shooter holy grail

Summary: (^_^) WOW!
Review: wow, this game was surprisingly good, compared to the other ut's it has made a pretty good comeback. Nowadays i play fps(btw, i am 13) and i almost played them all, halo for pc, counter strike( a must have cheapie!), doom 3, etc. I loved the variety of vehicles, weapons, mods, maps EVERYTHING! I don't have a high end gaming computer, just a p4 with a 128mb vid card, but i can turn it on high w/o any lag! I usually buy pc games for the online play and this has the best. With tons of servers up all the time and the customization of gameplay makes this a must have. Even though the price is a little to expensive because of how long its been out, i think it is worth it. You will be playing for hours, i probably have played this game more than halo, cs, or doom 3(which i haven't beat.) You don't have to take my opinion but this is a great game that you should own!

Fact: If you dont have a DVD rom drive for your computer, you won't be able to play the DVD special edition pack(the one in the fat DVD case.)

Summary: OWNAGE!
Review: Man, we've been stuck in the mud cradling our authentic bolt-action rifles for so long we almost forgot how much fun it was to dash around maps at full speed, or how fulfilling it is to assail a newbie with flak and taunts of," You play like a girl!" Reality-based shooters are fine and all, but they have dominated the online and offline FPS scene for so long that the arrival of the frenetically paced and ridiculously over-the-top Unreal Tournament 2004 is a huge breath of fresh plasma.

As fanboys of the original UT, we were none too pleased with last year's sequel, Unreal Tournament 2003. Most of the weapons felt watered down in terms of range and power, and the new maps failed to excite us like those in the original game.

Luckily, that all changes in this year's version, because Epic Games has gone back to UTs roots. The weapons have been rebalanced, and new armaments like the Spider Mines and the anti-vehicle rocket launcher are fun to wield. On top of this, Epic has revived our favorite game mode from the original-Assault-and added an awesome new challenge called Onslaught that consists of huge, wide-open maps, all-new vehicular combat, and node-oriented warfare that makes for riveting back-and-forth battles. And, because all the content from UT2K3 is included, it's like two games in one.

UT2K4 features 10 different game types, so it's likely you'll find a style that appeals to you. The package also includes several new one-on-one deathmatch maps for the hardcore crowd, six Assault maps, and nine Onslaught maps.

In a move that adds a remarkable layer of depth to a typically simple genre, Epic makes UT2K's single-player campaign feel like a franchise-oriented sports title like EA Sports' Madden series. You draft a team of players and fight other teams in a series of matches. After a match, you pay money to treat your injured players, sign free agents, and even challenge other teams to "bloodrites" matches, where the winner can poach one of the losing team's star players. As far as single-player experiences go, it's a dramatic departure that feels less exciting than, say, Far Cry, but is certainly unique. And it's commendable that Epic took the time to add nuance and strategy to what could have been a flat-feeling simple string of bot matches.

UT2K4 is the best value we've seen in a long time. Between the online and offline play, and the myriad game types, it'll be a long time before you get bored. But most importantly, it's F-U-N. Even Maximum PC editors Gordon Mah Ung and Will Smith, both avowed Battlefield fanatics, have become converts. The bottom line is this: If you buy this game and can't find something about it to love, you need help.

+ Ownage: Tons of content, tons of fun.

- Rentage: Outdated graphics.

Summary: Almost perfect BUT Credit System SUCKS
Review: This is an ALMOST perfect game but the need to earn credits???? just to play in the ladder tournaments is simply a waste of time and ANNOYING!!! Everything else about this game is really cool but this credit thing is a MAJOR nuisance.

Summary: Unreal Kicks Butt!!!!!
Review: Believe the hype. This game is one of the best, graphically and gamplay-wise. You have all these other excellent reviews to let you know about all the gameplay and such, so I will just say one thing. If you are looking for a deep singleplayer game, my advice is to look elsewhere. this game focuses on multiplayer more, and it does an awsome job of it. However, there is no real story (like in Half-life 2) so if you are looking for that kind of game, don't buy this one. My only complaint is that without a very good graphics card, the game will chug now and then, and not look as good as it could.

Summary: Smooth Performance and Fun Gameplay.
Review: The designers of UT2004 must be pretty good. This game runs without a hitch and gives me hours of fast paced shooting. I was relieved with its performance after buying Halo and wondering if my PC was slowly dying. Halo sucked and UT2004 ran like a top. So the problem wasn't my system. UT2004 has tons of engaging levels, excellent graphics and engulfing sound. Check it out.
